As you all know I''ve been involved in what felt like the never-ending setting saga. I think that part of the problem was that I had never envisioned having a round diamond until I suddently looked down one day and WHAM there it was, so I had a particularly hard time deciding what to do with it.

Anyway, after months of looking and looking and looking, not to mention driving all over the midwest to make sure I wasn''t missing out on any options, I realized that I kept coming back to antique-y style settings with halos.

First I found the Bijan Fere. Forgive the wonky prongs there is just a diamond plopped into the setting to give an idea of what it would look like:

But that one didn''t work out because they only made it in stock sizes, and none of those were big enough for my stone. Plus (in total honesty) the quality was not something that I would have been happy with long term.

Then I found Jake Kelege. Ooh la la! Every setting of his that I saw was perfect down to each detail. So I entertained the idea of just a halo and no side stones.

And that one became my back-up plan... but it seemed "lonely" to me--like an engagement ring that was just waiting for a wedding ring to go with it and I wanted a more single stand-alone piece.

There was another Kelege piece that I found in his catalog. This is a bad copy of a grainy photo, but this is the ring that I wanted to see.

OOoooooh... that second one is beautiful!

Jack Kelege has some amazing stuff. He has a white and yellow diamond pear halo ring that is drop dead gorge.

Have you seen the scanned ring with the trap sides in person?

Honestly, that grainy photo meant almost nothing to me, so I asked the jeweler to get it on for me to see. Unfortunately it is an older model that they haven't made for some years, but they had a version of a newer model with a princess stone that they sent so I could get an idea of what it would look like "for real."

that''s a stunning piece Dee*Jay

Anyway, long story short (or at least less-long!), I put this thing on and I loved it. My ring will be different in that it will obviously have a round center stone and I'm having a tiny milrgrained bezel put around the traps rather than having them prong set. My husband laughed at me and said it is chunky and clunky and a total old lady ring--but I love it anyway! (Of course it did occur to me that I could go for the version with just the halo now and then reset it to one with side stones later, but I really do want the whole banana right now--knowing full well that no matter what I got I would second guess myself something terrible and I would want whatever I didn't get!)

I have a close up professional picture of the Kelege that shows the amazing level of detail. For some reason I've saved it several times and I can not find it to post it, but I'll keep looking through the labarynth of files that I've created...

There was quite a bit of trauma/drama with actually ordering this setting though. It took weeks to get it in because it's set with a real 3 ct stone and Kelege was reluctant to ship it in the first place because it was so expensive for the insurance, but I had to convince them I was not going to order at $10K setting without seeing it on my hand first.

Then they couldn't ship it becuase it was being used in a photo shoot.

Then they finally shipped it--and it got "lost" in the Fed Ex system for 5 days.

Then it showed up and I said -- YES! I want this ring! How much and how long?

Then... afte two weeks... I finally heard back from the jeweler today that they would make it for me and what the cost and price would be.

As an aside, I had given up on these people and contacted Bill Pearlman about getting a Beaudry. In a matter of hours he had pricing and different setting options for me. If the jeweler with the Kelege hadn't called me this afternoon I had already made up my mind to call Bill P. tomorrow and get the Beaudry. (And I hope some day I do not regret going that route--but I can't think about everthing like that or my head will just explode!!!)

So what do you all think? Chunky? Clunky? Old ladyish? Love it? Hate it?

Holy Cow Batman!!!

That is some ring!

It's eye-popping GORGEOUS !!!

Not chunky or clunky at all, just bling-a-licious!!

Nothin but love from here. And that gallery view is fantastic.

It''s going to be amazing. A real WOW factor you''ll have going on there. YUMMO!!!!!

Now, honestly gals, is it *too much*? If it is tell me NOW!!!

SHOULD I have gone with the one that only has the halo and no side stones?

Mrs. S. and her sister saw it last week, but they are both so nice that they probably wouldn''t have told me if it was the tackiest thing on earth (

OMG! OMG! That is stunning!!!

No way is that too much!

Forgot to say that in these pics it''s very "static" but in real life when my hand is in motion it doesn''t look like such a "brick" of a ring.

(That''s what it''s affectionately been dubbed--The Brick.)

OH-MY-GOODNESS-I-AM-IN-LOVE! Looks great!!!

I think it''s just gorgeous. Blingy, yes! Overdone or tacky? NO!!

ok, well I saw this ring last weekend and it is nothing less than spectacular. it fit''s dee jay to a tee and it wasn''t gaudy or tacky at all. It''s a beautiful setting...

Cehra - I saw your post and tried to reply.

Seriously, no worries. And if I didn't want and value everyone's opinion I would not have come asking for it, LOL! You raised a valid point about the square stone, and I did look at every possiblity (the girls here who suffered through with me will vouch for that!), but for some reason I like the idea of a "round peq in a square hole" (or this version of it anyway!). Don't be shy--I want to hear from you and value what you think!

crap!!! I deleted it asap because I just don''t feel in the mood to rain on a parade

I meant what I said, but I''m not convinced it wouldn''t work either - I do like round stones in square halos - I really do. I really liked that last one but I can''t picture this one... I hope someone will play with photoshop because I *like* this halo BETTER than the other, but that big princess is distracting me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Cehra, no problem--really. If I wasn''t prepared to have my parade peed on I would never have put it all out there, LOL.

I know it''s hard to visualize the "round in a square" 100%. If it makes you feel any better I just had to visualize it as best I could--to the tune of ten thousand dollars...

Dee Jay, your collection continues to astound me. I wish I could see it in person! The ring is not something I would choose for myself only b/c I like very simple and I like wearing 2 rings together. So I''d probably stick with your temp setting for myself, or just a honking solitaire. But it''s not for me (sadly)! It looks like a fantasticly detailed and well made piece - like wearable art. I know you have searched high and low and if you keep coming back to this one, that probably means it is *the* one!!! Congratulations on finding it! How long will it take? (sorry if you already said!)

How is the Demon Dog doing?

Hi Dee Jay-

I think that ring is just spectacular. It will look awesome with your honkin'' RB in there. I say if you love it and it speaks to you, then go for it, woman!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like it was made to go on your hand DeeJay! It sounds like you have worked out all the details of getting that same look to work with your round stone.

Gail - I''m hoping to have it on my hand by the time I eat my Christmas turkey, but who really knows, LOL...

The Demon is good! We were hoping to get some good shots of him in his Halloween costume but they didn''t really come out too great. Oh well, maybe next year.

It''s so funny that you mention the corners--that was the one thing that I said I wanted changed in the very beginning (I thought those lines would drive me crazy) but now I love them. When I was looking at Beaudry as an option I was going to insist that they do the corners in exactly the same way!
