Hi everyone! I haven't posted in a while, though I have been lurking. I had my first two CS pieces made by Caysie last winter (thread here: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-first-cs-pieces-are-finally-done.236157/). While I was super happy with the sapphire pendant and wear it all of the time, I felt a bit disappointed with the ring. While I think it's a beautiful piece, I found it didn't feel very wearable - it felt too fancy for everyday wear and I didn't like the way it looked with my regular wedding jewelry. So, I went on the hunt for a more everyday type ring, and after looking at various designs in local jewelry stores, I sent my idea for a spess cabochon ring to David and he helped it come to life, including sourcing the cab for me. I know the color is not as orange-y as is usually desired in spesses, but I personally prefer the darker red/orange for my skin tone.

Anyway, here's a screen shot from the video that David sent me (and just posted on instagram). I'm super pleased with how it turned out :kiss2:. The ring is being delivered today, so I'll be sure to post hand shots!

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your cvb ring, I thought it looked stunning in the photos but I get what you mean about practicality for day to day wear.
This ring though is gorgeous, what a lovely contemporary design, I looks really tactile! Looking forward to the hand shots!

What a great choice for your beautiful stone. Looking forward to see this beautiful ring on your hand. This ring will be great for everyday wear.

So sorry to hear about your CvB ring. Will you keep it for occasional wear or will you sell it?

beautiful ring, the diamonds on the bezel is very unique and adds a nice edginess to the class is design! Can’t wait to see it on your hand.

It arrived!!! I'm SO pleased with it :mrgreen2:. It has a really nice weight and is super comfortable - fits perfectly too. I don't mind it with my wedding band, but I'd be ok wearing it without (I wear my engagement ring on my left hand). The only thing that is a bit off is that the white gold is warmer than my white gold wedding jewelry - my husband actually thought it was yellow gold when i first opened it. I think it's exacerbated by my indoor lights, though, so I'll check (and get outdoor and shots) tomorrow. IMG_2783.JPGIMG_2779.JPGIMG_2780.JPGIMG_2781.JPG

I haven't really decided what I'll do with it. I may hold onto it to see if I will wear for occasional wear and I've also thought about getting it reset, though my husband will kill me if I spend more money on jewelry right now. Are you asking out of curiosity or personal interest?? ;)

Very cool ring, I have to admit I had to google what a spess is. I really like the glow and the color looks great on you. White gold does look very warm but I don’t own very many white gold pieces so I am curious to what others say.

Love the ring! The reality is, as long as you're happy with it, thats the most important thing of all. I have an spess on the redder side of life which I find to be gorgeous personally.

I saw this on instagram! it's beautiful.. looks beautiful on you..

This is a very beautiful ring! I love it! :)

Stunning - love it!

Is it unplated white gold?

Yes - it's 18k palladium/gold alloy, which is the same as my wedding band that you can see in the pics, but it's from a european jeweler, so maybe the alloys are different? I asked DK about it and he offered to add plating to make it more white, but I'm not sure if I want to do that or not.

I also just compared it to my 18k white gold (palladium alloy) to my CvB ID ring, and it is warmer than that one also (the CvB ID white gold is same color as my european wedding white gold).

Your new ring is awesome! It’s both wearable and yet quite a statement piece. Enjoy it!

What a unique and pretty spessy ring. I love how substantial the ring appears on your lovely hand.

Beautiful!! Love that color!!

I really love the boldness and simplicity of your ring. It’s fabulous to see such a big spess cabochon! It makes a strong impression without harshness. I also appreciate the simplicity of the setting, with the little diamonds which are like subtle, orienting markers. It’s a rather timeless piece. Parts of the design go back centuries to the renaissance and before, but there is modernity mixed in also. It’s very different from what is usual, which I personally really love.

Thanks so much! I've been going back and forth on deciding whether to plate the gold to make it whiter, but I was partially hesitating because I am worried that it would take away from the design of the setting. I think the warmer, though not quite yellow, gold gives it more of an antique-y feel. Which, is not usually my style, but it also feels modern. I do think the warmer gold is a nice complement to the color of the spess, too.

I agree with you. I think the warmer metal has a complexity of color glow, which goes with the stone. It does have a beautiful, antique feel. It’s a hard call, but If it were mine, I’d leave unplated because it looks really great and you will not have to worry about replating. Also because, sometimes it’s a relief to have a departure from what we already have/favor.

That’s a cool ring! That spessartite is huge!

What a gorgeous piece. I love the reddish color of your spess and it looks fantastic in this setting. Personally, I’d keep it unplated. I like the slightly warmer tone it gives off. It just goes better with the design and the spess imo.

Do you feel like posting more pics? It’s totally ok if you do. I’ll just sit here and bide my time until the mood strikes....:Up_to_something2:

Unplated nickel-containing white gold is much warmer than unplated nickel-free (the palladium alloy) in my experience. I love the champagne color of unplated white gold but having recently developed a nickel allergy from just part of a ring where the rhodium plating wore off, I would not risk it.

But either way, I think that's a beautiful ring -- and the slightly grayish, matte finish makes it look like a gorgeous heirloom. Almost medieval revival on top and Art Nouveau underneath!
