i know there are several UK psers here. We are new to the UK and are looking forward to seeing a new part of the country. We want to go to Cornwall or Devon this summer. Can anyone give us suggestions on what city is best to base our stay? We are a family of three (mom and dad with 3 year old) with two dogs. We are looking to rent a cottage / house for a week or so.
I have heard good things about looe and torquay? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.!!!

St Mawes and the Roseland Penninsula are gorgeous. I have been going there for all my life and it's so pretty! Falmouth also lovely. You must have clotted cream and strawberry jam on scones, and saffron buns and hogs pudding (sort of sausage).

Otherwise North Cornwall is very wild and rugged - Perranporth is great for surfing and walks. Also fab for mineral collecting if you are into that - just watch out for unmarked mine shafts!

Exeter was pretty but got bombed to bits as pay back for Dresden in WWII. But Torbay is nice. North Devon is savage coastline and I really love Exmoor and Dartmoor.

En route from London, Dorset is also lovely - I adore Lyme Regis and there are great fossils to be found. Fab food, nice pubs and B&Bs.

To be honest you can't go wrong round there.

Where abouts in the UK are you?

Thanks for the info!

We live in East Northamptonshire - close to Peterborough.
We want to rent a house or cottage for a week or so - something close to the beach. We will be travelling with our 3 year old and two dogs.
I have always wanted to see that part of the country.

YS - you are going to my favourite part of the UK!!! We often based ourselves around the Newquay area, this enables you to see some fantastic beaches and scenery. Must sees as far as I am concerned is the quaint ' pixie' village of Boscastle, rarely will you find anywhere more full of character. Unfortunately this villlage was hit with devastating floods a couple of years ago.

Also Tintagel you can't miss. Legendary home of King Arthur and site of mythical Camelot, that is a great place to go. You get to the castle ruins by bumpy landrover, or it is a nice walk but not so fun coming back up!

Flambards Victorian village is an interesting way to see how they lived, set ups of stores and goods, clothes, carriages, well worth a visit - and a small amusement park for the children.

Lands End is worth visiting too, have a cornish icecream with clotted cream

at the stall there.

Those are some of my favourite things to do in Cornwall, Devon is a good and beautiful place too, but Cornwall appeals to me more.
