I purchased Barry's new rubelite cabs and just picked them up this morning. They are really gorgeous and so clean. My pictures don't even come close to doing them justice. At first I was thinking earrings but when I saw them I realized I didn't want to wear them on my ears so maybe sidestones but I'm not sure for what center stone thou

I also purchased some chrysoprase cabs too. They're a really gorgeous teal green. I'm thinking I would make earrings out of them, perhaps set with my grey moonstones. The moonstones as dangles on hook ear wires and the chrysoprase as detachable dangles from the moonstones.

Kismet - Lovely cabs from Barry. Those rubellite cabs are gorgeous. I just want to say that I had a pair of rubellite cabs from Barry made into earrings several months ago (Barry got the stones at Tucson), and I love them. I had them bezelled by my local jeweler in 18k yellow gold. Not too much metal, since I hate heavy earrings. What I really like about them is they actually look red on my ears. I have a pair of rhodolite garnet studs that I've worn for years, and they always go rather dark. Probably because there isn't a lot of light getting in through my hair. I find myself reaching for these tourmalines even when I am wearing my garnets as rings, etc., because the color goes together so well with them once they are on my ears.

Looking forward to how you set the other stones. I have some loose chrysoprase cabs that are waiting for me to get inspired. :wink2:

Thanks Fly Girl! They are really lovely. I think I'll suffer along with using red garnets for earrings though, since I really want to see these tourmalines all the time and not just when I look in the mirror. Two 8x6 ovals shouldn't be too big for side stones, at least not on a size 7+ finger.

Just thought I'd mention it. My rubellite cabs were 9 x 7 mm, so a nice presence on the ear and probably a little much for side stones. 8 x 6 would make for lovely side stones. Do you have a nice center stone in mind, or can we help you hunt for something? :cheeky:

Lovely cabs, I love them all. Maybe the rubellites are too big for a ring as sidestones? What about a pendant? They will be perfect for a round center stone. I cannot wait to see your moonstone earrings set!

Kismet, I'm so glad you bought those rubelite cabs! I really wanted them but I already have too many jewelry projects going on right now. I was seriously about to break down and buy them so thank you for taking away the temptation! : )

I can't wait to see what you do with them. I think they'd look great as sidestones, a while back I bought a pair of pair of BB 6mm square green tourmaline cabs that I plan on using as side stones.

I like those chrysoprase cabs too, they look great with the moonstones. I can't wait to see them set. : )

wow the color of those rubelite cabs is STUNNING! they're gorgeous.

I love your cabs!

Gorgeous! They are really fueling my newfound cab obsession. The chyrsoprase and the moonstones look AWESOME. Perfect for earrings.

I wonder if they might be a little large for sidestones. I think you could do some really creative things in a ring with just the pair. I do really like some of those antique "twin" rings, though I think you have to be careful to make sure they don't look too... um... suggestive. So toward that end, I think asymmetry might help? You could set them vertically staggered and off-set. Or like a by-pass ring? Or a couple of stacking rings that are made to fit into each other? Could see JTK doing something cool with them. Or maybe one of JM's asymmetrical designs. Or Sally for the stacking.

Ooh I just had a vision of them on the neck. Not sure if you want to go that direction, but man, that would be gorgeous.

Those are indeed yummy, especially the rhodolite cabochons. They seem pretty for a ring sidestones though but might be good for as a pendant sidestones? How about a twin bypass ring? I’ve seen them done for rounds and pear, so perhaps the setting can be modified for ovals?

great purchase!

i'm jealous re the rhodies!

They may be a little large for sidestones; I'll have to test them out and see. Maybe a bypass ring is the way to go. And if I do, I'll try to avoid making a ring that I would be embarrassed to wear in front of my mother.

Yes I'm thinking plain gold settings for the moonstone/chrysoprase pairing. Bezels with closed backs for the moonstones and semi bezels (a bar top and bottom) for the chrysoprase.
