Hello All
35.gif
,

I have been a lurker for a few weeks and just decided to sign up. I have
34.gif
I think about everything and I am on info overload
32.gif
if that can happen. I am a newbie so please take is easy on me lol.

I have a few questiosn to ask. I am in the maket for a ering for my FF and I am on a small budget just like everyone else. I plan on using my tax refund to purchase the ering in a few weeks. here is what I am looking. I am lookign for a Lucida style setting in white gold with a princess cut stone. Caret wise I was thinking from .50-1.00. My budget is only a measley $2,900

. Not sure what I can get with that, but anyways any and all help is appreciated.

you can do it on your budget.

The trellis Lucida style has been out for a very long time, so it is in any of the "stock" setting catalogs, from which a WG setting should not cost too much.

I think it''s definitely doable! You can set aside $2000 for the center stone and $900 for the setting. I recommend doing a search with whiteflash.com, winkjones.com, goodoldgold.com and engagementringsdirect.com. I don''t know what your clarity and color preference is, but you can do a range from VS1-I1, D-M. Also, open up your carat range from .45 to 1.20. If you are more forgiving with color and clarity, you can get a little more size for your budget.

Also, be open to the possibilities of colored diamonds and gemstones as well. For colored diamonds, I recommend fancydiamonds.net.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. Like everyone else I am trying to buy the best with what I have to spend. Also I was looking at the online jewlers posted above, been looking on mostly whiteflash and was curious about resizing becuase i know her ring size but it changes.

WF shouldn''t have a problem resizing your ring for you, especially if they created your ring. You local jewelers should also be able to resize it for you too.

I would rather have a good quality smaller diamond than bigger caret one that has more flaws

Here is a very pretty princess trellis setting for only $590, which would leave plenty for the center stone: http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=264&rn=923&action=show_detail. I would focus on getting a stone that is well-cut, this is the key to sparkle and shine and overall appearance. AGS "0" stones are a good place to start looking. The vendors mentioned are excellent.

PR, WF would probably have to call these diamonds in for evaluation, I don't think they are in house stones so we can't tell anything about the cut quality as not enough info - but of course if ibdrinken is agreeable to calling a diamond in then, then no worries!

Just had a look, found these - check the first one is eyeclean to your standards by checking with WF.

Dammit I love all those settings back to square one lol. The reason for me liking the Princess Trellis is because when we were at tifffanys in Ny she liked the style. Anther question is I was looking on Wf site and didnt see the trellis offered. I wil prob go with a cheaper setting as metioned above and then spend the most of the money on the diamond. I def what a vs1/2 that i decided. Thanks again for everyone helping me make this process easy,

Just a side note because you''re getting plenty of good suggestions already:

What do you mean by "it changes"? In that her fingers swell and shrink a lot with weight fluctuation and season changes? Just so you''re aware, resizing is meant to be for permenent changes. Like, you bought it in the complete wrong size and it needs to be changed to her actual size... or, her fingers swelled with pregnancy and never returned to their original size... or, her hands have become arthritic with age and her ring no longer fits over her knuckles. You know? Re-sizing is not to be done repeatedly for fingers that "change," you just have to find a size that works for the swollen and un-swollen fingers (loose and tight depending). Repeated re-sizing can compromise the integrity of any ring, even a solitaire.

Just wanted to throw that out there just in case you were actually considering sizing in that way!

Generally speaking, they are... fancy yellows and blues etc... unless platinumrock was referring to low color diamonds, the L-O range. I don''t think that''s an appropriate look for this type of ring, though.

Sorry for the confusion but I meant when i buy it. Her tiffanys ring I bought her was a 8.25 but her other rings are differnt sizes between an 8 and 8.5. I want to make sure I try to get as close as possibel so she could atleast wear it until she gets it sized. I was lookin g on WF and didnt see the trellis seting, I prob have to call them and ask. Thanks again everyone.

I know someone who has purchased their diamonds from WF and their setting from knoxjewelers and everything turned out beautifully. You can buy your setting from a different place if necessary. It''s best to have the diamond vendor set the stone though in case something happens.

Thats is exactly what I was thinking of doing.

I think that sounds like a great idea - should be beautiful

I would have Whiteflash price out a Unique Settings X-prong or an Ingwar or an Adwar. I had a Unique Settings X-prong and it was a great setting. I like the one from Excel Diamonds , and the price is pretty good. I wouldn''t spend less than 450 on a setting like that in gold. They are heavy, and gold is expensive right now.

So I was doing some more research on Ps and saw that the princess cut should have a AGS report preferred vs a GIA. Did I read that right. Also I have decided that clarity is going to be a VS1 just have to decide on the color now.

Ok, it isn't that a Princess should have an AGS report, the thing is AGS are the only lab at this time to grade Princess for cut, hence the AGS0 cut grade Princess are considered to be a ' safe' choice for cut quality. There are well cut GIA graded Princess out there, it can just take more work to find them - however if you work with a trusted vendor who has hand selected GIA Princess with all the info provided such as ASET/ Idealscope images and detailed photos etc, then you can certainly find lovely GIA Princess.

If you are still working on a $2900 budget then maybe consider VS2 clarity to broaden your options?

Thanks for the quick reply, I just wish I had a higher budget. I have expensive taste lol. So if i change my search to look at VS2, there are all mostly eye clean form what I have read and seen. Also I could go up on the color since I am lowing the clarity.

You are most welcome!

If you really want VS1 then thats fine but if you could consider VS2 ( in the sizes you are thinking of, very good chance the diamond will be eyeclean) then that would give you some more options. And you could possibly balance it with an increase in colour, see what is out there. Just check with the vendor that VS2 is completely eyeclean and you should be set, if you find a diamond you like which is VS2 ( GIA/ AGS graded).

I m glad that I stumbled upon PS, without this site I have been more educated well beyond my means. I was about to go to one one of those B&M stores and spend alot of money atleast in my mind on a low quality diamond. I am still so stressed on finding the perfect diamond. I am glad because it makes me learn new things esp about buying diamonds.
