Hi everyone,

I plan to get engaged in about a month, and think I have found a pretty decent stone for my price range (no more than $5800 for the stone), and desired parameters. I've been reading the forums for a while, but now it's time to seek my own expert opinion.

GIA 1159969687
1.07 carat
6.53-6.57x4.05
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Cut: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: none
Table: 57%
Total Depth: 61.9%
Crown Angle: 36
Pav Angle: 40.6

My concern is the number and location of the small clouds I notice on the GIA report. As a novice, I'm not sure how concerned I should be, though I was told that the diamond is definitely eye clean. I am attaching the GIA report and Idealscope for reference (I apologize if they turn out small - will upload larger ones if I can).

Thanks for your help!

VS2 clouds is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for your reply. How does the Idealscope look?

Crown angle a little big throwing offf the ideal cut

I think the Idealscope looks great.

I ran the HCA tool - https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca and it comes up with a total score of "1.8 - Excellent within FIC Range" (FIC stands for Fiery Ideal Cut), receiving Excellent for Fire, and Very Good(s) for Light Return, Scintillation, and Spread. And your diamond falls within the white AGS O box (meaning ideal-cut per AGS standards)

Here's a link with a bit more info on FICs - http://www.diamond-cut.com.au/23_bicfic.htm.

I also ran the AGA Cut Class tool - https://www.pricescope.com/tools/AGA_NAJA_Cut_Class_Grader - and the total score is 1B (it received 1As in all categories excepting Crown Angle which received a 2B).

I think this stone will likely be a top performer - if the vendor has a solid return policy, I think it is worth checking out in person (and before it is put into a setting) just to make sure it meets your expectations.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, they have been very helpful. I am waiting on a photo of the actual diamond, but I think I will be ready to pull the trigger soon. Does it seem like a fair price given everything discussed?

I ran a PS diamond search for 1.07ct I-VS2 GIA XXX and got 24 results, ranging from $5147 (Solomon Brothers) to $7302 (Blue Nile) - out of the 24, only 8 were below $6,000. (There were no results with AGS reports.) Based on this, I think the price is reasonable and within market range, and even perhaps a good deal considering your diamond is basically an ideal-cut FIC (as compared to the GIA XXX results above, some of which would not reach ideal-cut standards).

The 40.6 is cancelling out the steep crown of 36, the inverse crown angle pavilion relationship. I haven seen any of those cut combos in person anyone how does it face up ?

I think it's a nice stone.

Treasurehunter, maybe start a new thread asking about? "Expert Input: Pavillion and Crown angle combos" would get their attention.
