Hey,

My mother is allergic big time to nickel and developed it sometime over the years, or it got worse to the point she cant wear jewelry containing any at all anymore or she suffers. I know platinum and palladium are both safe if I read and understand things correctly. I think that you can get some earrings with 316SS posts.

any suggestions, links, or help in locating some additional jewelry options would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug :wink2:

Talk to artisan jewelers. There still are jewelers who alloy their own metal and solder, who can guarantee that there is no nickel in the composition.

Here's a neat chart that H&S puts out for their casting alloys showing what they contain:

The hardness figures are in an "as cast" condition. Some materials like the "Argentium" sterling silver can be heat treated to a Vickers hardness of 125 which is over twice it's cast hardness. There are other materials which make respectable jewelry materials such as silver/platinum alloys which are much like Argentium in that they don't tarnish readily and are harder than normal sterling. Of course any gold alloys other than white gold's don't have any nickel in them at all.

Lady_disdain, or anyone else, can you recommend an artisan in the US who alloys their own metal?

Ed and Logan Cutshall, of Hunt Country, alloy their own gold, but not their own platinum. And I think, but don't quote me on it, they are able to alloy a palladium white gold for the nickle-averse.

I can only wear platinum or stainless in my ears. I don't usually wear earrings. I have had luck with that simply whispers line, they have a lot of stainless stuff. I left my big CBRs in for like 5 years and took them out for my wedding almost 7 years ago and never put them back in. I need to go get some of those again that are just much smaller and "normal" thickness I think.

Aviastar, thank you! I live within driving distance of Hunt Country! I am so excited!
