Well....Christmas came and went without a proposal. I was so-so-SO sure I was going to get one, based on all the hint dropping I was picking up on, that I deliberately left my rings off when I woke up Christmas morning. As I''ve previously posted, I do wear a ring on my left hand that some have asked me if it''s an engagement ring (it''s not). I did, however, get some great gifts from my boyfriend that he earned major props for: a signed book edition of Cry of Dawn and all 6 editions of Omaha The Cat Dancer comics. I am a former graphic artist that collects indie comic books, and that was an awesomely personal gift that I would never buy for myself. Anyway...
Friday night, we were supposed to go on a pub crawl with friends of his. They hold an annual Pub Crawl on the Friday between New Year''s and Christmas - you go from bar to bar for drinks, food, etc. until Last Call or when no one is left standing (whichever comes first). However, he was exhausted and suggested that we just go for dinner instead.
While at dinner, he remarked on my left hand ring and said, "That''s some rock, Lady," to which I replied, "If it were real, it would not be nearly as large. But when you buy ready-made stuff, you take what you can get." My left hand ring is not real but looks like it is -- and is antique-inspired. And my left hand ring was bought as a replacement for one that I lost on my birthday (I previously posted about that). I explained about a ring I saw in an ad for a SoHo jeweler that is my dream ring, and that what I wear is as similar to that as I could find "off the rack" and not real.
Last night, I was on the computer, checking e-mail and such. And for some reason, it occurred to me to e-mail him the store''s ad. I am not the type to outright suggest anything, but I also don''t see anything wrong with planting a seed. I merely wrote, "Thought you might want to see the real version of what I mentioned the other night. If I could justify the $4200 cost, I would already have bought it."
See below for the ad. Valentine''s is coming...so I remain hopeful. I don''t think I was too obvious.....
