Awwwwww, too cute everyone!!!

My scotty is passed out too. He had a rough day at the vet. He is a NERVOUS cat. They shaved his neck, took blood and took urine with a needle...I think from his bladder. OUCH. Poor guy.

He''s lost 2 lbs in 6 mo and has two teeth that need to come out...Poor guy. If anything ever happens to him my husband willk have a mental breakdown. That''s his BOY.... And he wasn''t a cat person. Oye.

when we were in Kauai, there are feral cats that are all over the plantation...
Oh my! I love those wild red & gray coats... there aren''t many like that around here - actually, I don''t think I''ve seen one stary or not.

Oh no MMM!! Healthy kitty cat vibes coming out from us and the girls!! Keep us posted on Scotty''s progress.

MMM, I hope your kitty is ok too. Poor little guy, only one of my cats has ever had to be shaved for a small injury, but she was frothing at the mouth, which I had never seen, they just get so nervous! I hope he''s alright though! Good job converting your husband to a cat lover!

thanks guys! We''ll get blood work today hopefully. he sure is skinny...and he''s always been my big fat baby...

MMM: It sounds like what Jasmine went through. I''m sure the vet will check for it, but make sure they do a thyroid test on him. Is his fur kind of nappy on his back around the tail? For some reason, both of my cats who have had a hyperthyroid got nappy fur there.

Good luck and head bumps to you and Scotty!
face23.gif

Thanks guys!
Well, blood work came back fine...the vet thinks it''s his bad gums and two back teeth that need to be pulled! Poor Scotty, like his mama, food is his life LOL :)

Well, Scotty is at the vet...and his three little teeth are coming out- Poor guy, but they said that he will actually eat better and be happier without them. The vet said he didn''t really have any teeth to begin with LOL...Poor guy. When we adopted him, the shelter said that he was abandoned at the vet''s office...and this vet said that he had had teeth extracted before...three are about $1200
23.gif
So that''s probably why he had been abandonded. The people loved him enough to bring him to the vet but couldn''t pay for it...

Anyhoo, lets give a big shout out to my fat love machine! He''ll be as good as new in a few days
12.gif
He''s a bit stressed this morning so please send some head bonks his way

*head bonk*

Here''s another head bonk!

MMM, we had this problem with our much missed Thomas James a few years ago. Poor little guy, his teeth were so manky and infected - they kept making him very ill. After many dentals which weren''t helping I asked the vet to take them all out except the canines. He was a different cat afterwards, and could even manage dry food when he wanted it!
9.gif
Love to Scotty and you can look forward to having a much healthier and happier cat!
35.gif

Oh, here''s a gentle little head boink for Scotty!

*head bonk*

Thanks guys! Bonking ya right back!
He ended up having 3 teeth and other rotted roots removed
7.gif

BUT, he''s waking up and I might be able to take him home tonight.

Guys- what food do ya''ll use?
I''ve been using Iams but read bad things...Cats don''t love it either. Then there is some Dick VanPatent (kid you not) Natural Balance food that gets great reviews.

I just heard about Iams and animal cruelty last weekend! I use it too, and was pretty upset.
7.gif
I''m interested to hear what other people are using. I used to switch between Iams and Nutro Max Cat. So, I guess I''ll use Nutro until I hear what all the rest of you are feeding your kids!

Rube
(another head bonk, mmm. I just LOVE when cats do that...)

Awww, *head bonk* incoming!

I also love when they do this...and not so much when mine sticks her butt in my face though.
20.gif

I hadn't heard anything about Iams, though I don't use it anyway...Chloe's on special dry food that prevents oxalate (sp?) crystal formation/UTIs/kidney stones.

I was gone for a few days and she got mad at me...peed on my bed.
29.gif
Guess she was pretty mad. I tried not to be upset but it's a pain to throw everything in the wash and bleach it twice before using it again! (Might be overkill, but I'd rather err on the side of not smelling that!!!)

Well, Scotty has FIV. It was the one test we were waiting for.
7.gif

I''m pretty upset but learning that a lot of cats live normal lives with it.
It also upsets me to think that all three of my cats have them now.

Anyone else have an FIV cat?

Oh MMM, I''m sorry to hear that!

15.gif
I have heard plenty of times that cats with FIV live long healthy lives. When I first adopted Rascal, he was severely underweight, and I had him tested for FIV. Before the results came back, we were assured that if that was the cause, not to worry, he would still be healthy, and they would care for him accordingly.

As for food, Rascal gets Science Diet Hairball Control for Seniors in the dry formula and Science Diet Chicken and Liver in the wet food. Two vets recommended Science Diet to me. I had been feeding him IAMS for his whole life up to a year or so ago, but they said Science Diet was richer in vitamins and better for him overall. Who knows, but everytime I bring him to the vet now, they keep commenting on what gorgeous, healthy skin and fur he has, so maybe the food is working! LOL

And Rascal too was just at the vet yesterday to get some bloodwork done since he is considered a "senior" now.
2.gif
He had two anal sac abscesses in the past two months, which is apparently highly rare in cats, so they want to make sure nothing is wrong. They didn''t shave him (sometimes they do, sometimes they don''t, who knows) but they did bandage his leg where they took the blood and told me to take it off when we got home. Well, let me just say, that wasn''t as easy as it sounds! After chasing him around the house, finally locking him in the bathroom so he couldn''t hide, and him growling at me, I finally was able to cut the bandage off. But of course it was stuck to his fur (why the heck do they tape a bandage to fur???) so I let him lick it off slowly. But that only happened after he ran around like a maniac because this thing on his leg was definitely chasing him and trying to eat him
2.gif
.

So Rascal and I send our love to Scotty and hope he feels better soon!!!

HI:

Oh MMM sorry about Scotty''s infected teeth and diagnosis of FIV. Could you feed him baby or jr. food until his gums heal?

cheers--Sharon

Thanks guys...the more I read online the less upset I get, but still not thrilled to say the least.

I was totally thinking baby food too! But I looked it up b/c I know dogs on baby food but I read that onions are horrible for cats and there is a lot of onion powder in baby food....oh well.... I mushed some food up and he looks at it but won''t eat.

He is absolutely drunk. He can''t even walk in a straight line. Poor boy...He''s so mad at me right now lol

HI:

Onion powder in baby food? Never heard of that one--and they have purified those products even more these days since they used to be so salty and full of sugar...but honestly I don''t know the research on this one.... Anyway, would he eat the food if it was warmed slightly and moistened with consumme?

cheers--Sharon

Hey MMM, I''m sorry to hear about your kitty, but when I looked it up, it seemed pretty positive. Is it an absolute yes that your other cat''s have it? On one site I went to it said that FIV cats could live together with non FIV ones because it is transfered through blood, not like FeLV. I''m sure with all your love & care he''ll be happy for many years to come!

And I would double check on that baby food with onions. When we first took in Rockie, she was a stray I started feeding and then she had 5 kittens, the vets told us to wean the kittens off of milk with baby food. They all turned out fine. My understanding was it was just liver or whatever meat we chose pureed, but more finely than we''d get in a wet cat food. Aww, the memories of having to do that every morning before I went to school. They were the most adorable things. Now I''m on a hunt to find a picture so I can show you how absolutely adorable they were! Rock was the skinniest thing ever and then we took her to the vet and they wanted to abort the kittens! I was only in 3rd grade, so I didnt know that until maybe a couple years ago, but I''m so glad we didn''t do that. It was quite the experience going from no pets to 6 cats in about a week
3.gif
We kept one, and adopted the others out, but the one we kept got sick when he was about 8
7.gif
Sorry to ramble, just got me thinking of those memories!

Thanks so much!

And I'd love to see pix.

Well, Scotty is ok this morning. Still looking confused, but at 5:00 my husband got up and scotty went over to him for food. Can you believe he swallowed dry food! he loves his food.

I'm just worried about his weight loss...and his eye infections, and ear problems and gum problems, all signs of the disease. So I'm hoping he's in stage 1 only... And we are having a western blot test done to confirm, but I think it's pretty clear- the symptoms + blood work. He probably just got it at the shelter and then when they tested him, it came back neg. Still doesn't matter if he was +, I would have loved him anyway :)

Vinny really plays rough and they really get into it...Vinny also bites...so I'm hoping that he doesn't have it too...

Well, thanks for the support guys! I love my little fur babies so much!!! Like we all do!

PS- This is SO a main reason to never let cats outside....Mine never go outside, but who knows what his life was like before I got him...

And one of the first questions by the vet was "Does he go outside" I said "never" He said "RIGHT ANSWER!"

HI:

Naturally you are worried MMM--who wouldn''t be?
emcat.gif
Now that his bad teeth are gone, and he''ll be able to eat more and more regularily, his weight will normalize and he''ll become less immunocompromized and more able to fight off infections, etc. What about kitty vitamins? And I know it is early in his recovery to think about changing food, but what about the organic products on the market? I recall these foods are more costly, but worth it in the long run (beside which there is less poop to scoop--more absorbed, less out!!!!)

Keep up the good work.

cheers--Sharon

Hi MMM,

So glad to hear that Scotty was feeling better this am and trying to eat! You must be so worried about him. When my 19 year old was failing and wouldn''t eat our Vet suggested baby food. He would eat the chicken, beef and lamb pretty well. Maybe you could mix in some of his dry food if he has a hard time eating it?

MMM, here are some head bonks for Scotty to add to the pot!
emcat.gif
I was sad to read of his condition and do hope he feels better...fat boy. You all are scaring me with talk of letting your cats outdoors vs. not...and I do let mine out but Missy tends to really stick around, and Rusty is just beginning to get the groove of going outdoors for short periods of time. They mostly stay under the house.

Catmom, I couldn't believe that you had a 19 y/o cat! The oldest cat I'd ever had was 14 yrs, but tragically she was killed by DH when he ran her over. She was going downhill, couldn't move quick enough to get out of the way, and his truck got her. I'd had her more than double the years I'd had him at that time so it was real sad and he felt so bad.
