The night she came to live with me, I was getting ready to go out with friends. My fiance showed up and said he had a surprise for me....little did I know that it was a furry, adorable surprise!!!!! This is from that night...she enjoyed playing with the curls in my hair!

Tres chic on the pink toesies. The newest additions to this thread are very cute.

Have any of you guys ever done a raw food diet? I keep reading about it. This would be for my dear scooter pants (with the FIV)...He has good days and bad. Today he didn''t eat which is VERYVERYVERY not like him. He looks so sad and tired and so thin (at 12 lbs which is SOOO thin for him) He was an eating machine before he started to get sick and eats without his back teeth.... So I really want to keep his immune system up...Just wondering. Thanks!

MMM, have you talked to the vet?? Unfortunately, I don''t know much about the raw foods diet. What does Scotty eat now? Dry or wet food?

Oh MMM, wish I could help but I don''t know anything about the raw foods diet. When my 19 year old was going through his last days he would stop eating every so often. The only thing that we could get him to eat during those times was baby food like chicken, lamb, beef, etc.

I guess discussing with the vet is the smart thing to do. Duh. LOL.

And OMG- 19 years! Bless his little heart

I''m going to look into baby food again..I read some nonos on the internet...but I''m going to google now!

Thanks guys! Head bonks.

Scotty is such a sweet fella.

I will look tonight and get a meat baby food with no onion! I hope he likes it
(Onions are toxic to our little friends it seems)...

Maybe he's just spoiled ... we've been totally spoiling him...We put out two kinds of wet for him so he gets variety... and he swallows dry...and some treats... I actually buy him a cooked chicken from the super market b/c he loves it. What a bratt!

Anyway, here is a pic that is "serious" but cracked me up. Yeah, I see this all the time in my house...kitty just playing, rolling around with some random onion LOLOL

onion.jpg

MMM, that picture does make me laugh (even though it is serious)! And darn, onions are Rascal''s favorite toy
2.gif
hehe

When Rascal was sick, he stopped eating the dry food, so I went to the pet store and honestly bought one type of at least fifteen different types of wet food. Chicken, liver, turkey, chunky, pureed, in juice, etc. Honestly, after trying most of them, he picked ONE that he would actually eat (Science Diet Liver and Chicken - pureed, no rice) and we have stuck with that! It was a hassle, but it worked!

Keep us updated on Scotty!

Any suggestions on how to turn your hubby into a cat-lover? When I met my now-husband I had a kitty, her name was Tinkerbell (because I had to put a bell on her collar when she was a kitten so I didn''t step on her in the middle of the night). After we were married, we adopted a puppy and moved into a new house all in about 4 months. The cat was not having any of it, peed all over every bit of carpet in the new house, and hated the dog (which I think was an act.) I refused to get her declawed, but took her to the vet for testing to see if she had any physical problems (although she was only 5 by then.) She was fine physically, but the vet suggested all kinds of litterbox changes, psychotropic drugs, etc. I was against the drugs, but got her a covered litterbox for privacy (and so the dog would stop eating her poo.) Finally, after another month of her ruining the carpet, I found a better home for her with a girl I worked with. She is in a better place now, but I miss her still after 2 years! I love my dog, too, but I desperately want another kitty! We have replaced our carpet with new hardwood floors. My question is still, how do I convince my husband that we can have a kitty and a dog at the same time? Do you think if we got a male (neutered) kitten/cat it would be better? The dog, although he is only 30 pounds, is somewhat playful/aggressive still at 2 years old, so I don''t know if he would be a problem. Should I just forget about it, or is this worth pursuing?

Just thought I''d share my newest cuties. Yes, another batch of feral kitties that we managed to catch just in time since it''s been in the 30''s at night here. We think they are around 4-5 weeks old and amazingly I already have them placed! We are fostering them until the 7th. Hopefully this will be the last batch of kittens as we are working with a group called Spay and Stay to get the feral colony spayed and neutered in December. Please keep your fingers crossed that we are able to trap all of the cats. Once they are "fixed" they are microchipped, given shots and then released back to us to let them go in their usual stomping grounds.........our back yard!

Monarch....don''t take this the wrong way, but you guys chose to adopt the dog to the detriment of your cat...and when the cat couldn''t handle it, you gave up the cat.... I know must have been a hard decision for you to give her up...and I"m sure you tried...But it''s my *responsibility* as a cat owner to not do anything that harms my babies physically or emotionally.... Just be happy with your dog and move on.

Catmom....you are an absolute
17.gif
. Those babies are SOOO sweet.
I was watching a show on tv the other day....

One mama and her litter can produce over 400,000...that''s right....400,000 offspring in 7 years. You are truly helping the animal community!!!

Ugh. So on the subject, my office is moving next month... I stopped by the new location and when I went in saw a black and white cat in the parking lot...ripped my heart out but I had to go inside for a closing....Then on my way out, there was a black and orange. I ran through the parking lot with my bag of food LOL....but she ran away. How on earth can I trap such a ferel? Any tips Catmom???

Thanks, MMM! We feel pretty good that in the past year we''ve managed to catch and place 9 of their kittens [of course two are in my house!]. What really upsets me are those neighbors that complain endlessly about the cats but do nothing about it except call the police. Most neighbors are fine with what we are doing but there is this one family behind us that drives me nuts.

In order to participate in the Spay and Stay program we must agree to feed and supply shelter to the colony, which we have done for the past 3 years. In December we will be given traps to set out. You have to leave a deposit of $50 for each trap. Then when we catch the cats we have to bring them inside and continue to feed them in the traps until the spay date. Then you have to get each trapped animal to a location in the county that will do the spaying/neutering. [Just how are you supposed to get 10 trapped cats to a location? I forsee several trips in the future. Hope the location isn''t far!] Once the spaying is done the animals are released back to you in the traps and you keep them inside for 3-4 days until recovered and then you can release them. It will cost us $25 per cat to have them spayed or neutered. At least when we return the traps we will get our $50 per trap back! All in all this is not a cheap or easy procedure, yet we are willing to do this to help with the feral cat population. The responce we get from our hateful neighbors................they called the police on us!!! I do have to say that the police were wonderful and when they found out that the cats were ferals and what we were doing they couldn''t have been more appologetic or helpful. I know that they went back and ripped the neighbors. I believe their responce back to them was..."and just what have you done to try and help the situation other than complain?"

I have to laugh because I thought that my husband was the only person that carries cat food in his car in case he runs across a stray cat!! I don''t have any tips other than try and go back at the same time each day and feed them until they get used to you and then maybe you can lure them with food into a cage or trap. That''s how we caught most of the babies. We would take one of our cat carriers and put food inside and leave it right next to the patio door. Then when we saw a cat go inside we would reach out quickly and slam the door. Worked like a charm!

You are such a sweetie!!! And I don''t want the dog lovers out there to get mad, I have a water bottle, a leash and doggie kibble too LOL... ALthough some of the dogs I see on the streets of Queens can be very frightening...so I haven''t saved one yet
7.gif

These cats will be hard b/c this is a commercial parking lot....although I guess I could put the trap in the greenery and go out a few times on break...wouldn''t want to leave them out there for long with the cold weather coming up... sigh. Aren''t people stupid? They think nothing of not fixing their pets and letting them run wild just to have more unwanted babies...

MMM: Good luck with the ferals. Surprisingly I do not see many stray cats where I live and work. Which I figure is a good thing. It''s very hard for me to resist kitties and I would be grabbing them all up and bringing them home, much to the dismay of my ever tolerant fiance!
emsmile.gif
By the way I talk way silly to my cats too. If it''s not looks from them it''s looks from the above mentioned fiance!!! I do believe they are thinking a padded room would be just the ticket for me.
emsmilep.gif

Catmom: Stop with the pictures! I want all of them!!!
face23.gif
They are just the cutest dollies. Glad you have homes for them all.

MMM, You are a true animal lover. You are the sweetie!!!!

AmantdeChat, Sorry had to do one more! Sorry for the bars form the play pen but OMG isn''t this just the cutist little face you''ve ever seen! I know what you mean about wanting them all............could be that''s why we now have six when three months ago I was saying no more!

cmsjrmint.JPG

Catmom - Those kittens are ADORABLE!! Seriously, I immediately checked your profile to see where you were from because I sooo want one! But its probably a good thing you''ve already found homes for them, kittens are usually pretty easy to place, and plus I think I''m at my max at 3 right now. You''re doing such a great thing for those cats, and the animal community will be much better off now! Where in IL are they doing this spay & stay program? Is it all over? Fortunately where I live I don''t see many strays. My first kitty was a stray/abandoned pregnant girl that we thing someone dropped off in the area since there is a shelter right near where we live. But oh my, those kittens are just too cute for words.

I guess since I never see stray cats around, or dogs for that matter, I''ve never thought of carrying food & water for them in my car, but that is something I should start doing...never know when you''ll need it.

He, he, he.........yah, I thought I was at my max of 3 at one point, too!! I''m now up to six.

How can one resist with babies like this!

Spay and Stay is strictly a Lake County, Il program but I believe that there is a similar program in Cook County. While expensive, considering, they really do a lot for the animals. It''s a $25 "donation" for each cat and they spay or neuter, give a 3 yr rabies vac, give a distemper vac, give them one treatment for parasites, do minor wound care if needed, microchip using my address and finally they ear-tip the left ear. They ear-tip because if the animal ever gets picked up by animal control it alerts the warden to scan for a microchip and contact Spay and Stay. Spay and Stay then contacts the responsible person [which would be me] and you can then save the cat.

Yay!! Another kitty food in the car convert.

Hmmm..I''m in Lake County too right now, most of my time is spent in the city and I just usually tell people Chicago on boards like this because no one has ever heard of my town that doesnt even have its own zipcode

I would love to have more than 3, and probably would if it was up to me, but I''m living with my mom until she moves this spring, so the decision really isn''t mine to make! I will definitely keep that in the back of my mind and do some research on the program...never know when it could come in handy and it seems like a minor cost to do something so helpful.

Wow, this thread is incredible. I thought I would share a pic of my two darlings, Daphne (r) and Clio (l). They are sisters, tortoiseshell colored and very friendly and social. :)
