Have any of your cats ever had a cold? Is there anything you can do about it?

Chloe, being indoors, has never had one but she''s been sneezing constantly for the last few days. The only thing I can think of is that maybe when she went to the vet 2 weeks ago (upset tummy...was barfing for days straight) she caught something? Seems odd...but she''s sneezing, sneezing, sneezing.

I called the vet and asked when I should start getting worried...she''s not lethargic, is eating, pooping, doesn''t appear to have a fever...they said if she starts sneezing phlegm (yuck) or gets oozy eyes, to bring her in. Anything I can do for her in the meantime??? I''ve been giving her some tuna in addition to her regular food to encourage her to keep eating. Poor sneezy kitty.
Sorry Chloe isn''t feeling so great. I think everything you are doing is all you can do right now. I would just watch her closely and hopefully she will stop sneezing soon

. And make sure she has a warm, cozy place to sleep (no drafts, etc.).

Rascal has caught a cold or two over the years, and he is strictly an indoor kitty and I do not have direct contact with other cats at all. My vet said that it is so easy for an outdoor cat to leave germs on your steps, door, etc. and then you bring them into your house. Also, in the summer when the windows are open, often germs come right in with the breeze.

Thanks Rascal. She likes to sleep with us, especially under the covers so she can hide out. She''s nice and snuggly under there at night. I wish she wasn''t so scaredy otherwise...I''d love to cuddle with her during the day but she just likes to sit near me in the vicinity. If I can catch her, she loves to be held and will sit there for an hour...but she won''t let me catch her! Silly cat.

FireGoddess,

I''m sorry to hear that Chloe isn''t feeling well. We just went through the same exact thing with one of my cats. She acted like she felt ok. No temperature or running eyes or nose, etc. Still playing with the other cats and running around like crazy but about every 5 minutes or so she would start sneezing. This happened continually for about a week and then it started to slow down. She would still sneeze but not nearly as much until finally about a week and a half later she just stopped sneezing. We don''t know what it was. It just didn''t seem like a cold or respiratory problem, just continual sneezing.

If this is what your cat has then all you can do is continue to monitor her to make sure it doesn''t progress into something else and eventually she will stop sneezing. I sincerely hope this is the case!

I''ve enjoyed looking at everyone''s cat pictures! Here are my babies. They''re both about 1.5 years old.

Wow zekele, they are absolutely adorable!!

Zekele, very cute kitties! I imagine the conversation between the cats when I see some of these pictures. "You must be cleaned!" "No, I don''t want to!" "No, you *must* be cleaned!!" Remember, cats aren''t clean, they are just covered in cat spit : )

Firegoddess, how is Cloe doing? Still sneezing?? I hope she is feeling better,

I wish you well,

Bridget

Zekele, They''re soooo cute!!! I''m jealous...I wish my kitties loved each other that much

marvel, my cats actually fight quite a bit. The calico, Pumpkin, thinks that she rules the apartment and she picks on Roxie (the tabby). Often I hear hissing and yowling and I have to break them up. In spite of the fighting, though, at the end of the day they''ll settle down together, groom each other, then take a nap! A love-hate relationship, I guess.

They sound like typical siblings

Zekele - so cute! They sort of remind me of my Cleo and Kishiu. Look very similar. And sort of funny too, my Cleo''s original name was Pumpkin! Our family friends had a farm with some strays and they''d take the kittens home, if they could catch them, to get them fixed and adopted, and so we fell in love with her, but we changed her name to Cleo (Cleopatra, since she''s totally a little princess).

Love all the new kitties! Although it''s been a while since I posted, I still come by every now and then to see/read about the new kitties/stories.

Wanted to share a funny story about my baby, Jasmine. The other night, she was sleeping by me on the couch downstairs when I went up to bed. Seeing how she was sleeping so soundly I left her on the couch, figuring she would head up to bed with me when she woke up. Well at around midnight I wake up to this pitiful meowing. Jasmine is downstairs meowing like she is lost and cannot find me! She comes up the stairs and meows plaintively at the top. So I whisper-yell ''Jasmine!'' and her meow immediantly turns into a joyous MEOW!; she runs into the bedroom, hops on the bed and just goes crazy rubbing on me, head bumping me and purring like there is no tomorrow!
face23.gif
I swear she thought I had left her and she was all alone in the big cold house! It''s hard to describe her meows but they were so pitiful and lonely sounding. She was just estactic when she realized I hadn''t gone anywhere and she wasn''t alone after all!

Anyway, thought you cat lovers would like that story and could relate it to something similar with your babies!

Take Care!

AmantdeChat: Awww! That''s so adorable! I''ve never detected happy emotions in my cats'' meows. They''re usually just demanding something

hehehehe! Absolutely adorable!

MMM, where did you get the KISS pandas! That''s hilarious!

LOL...thanks! I don''t remember...I was browsing some purse forum yesterday (cheating on ps LOL) and I think I saw it there! And I''m not even a huge Kiss fan but just loved it! :)

Amant - what a cute story. I''ve never heard Chloe shell out a happy meow (though I assume those are what her prrrrrrrrreoooooooowwwwww sounds are) but she definitely lets out a whiny, elongated, annoyed meow if she is trying to get me to do something and I just won''t do it (like give her tuna even though her regular food is already just sitting out there). Truly like a real, human whine. She also is the master of what I call her "sick meows".......the straggly, soft, strained, hoarse throat ones she throws out there if she thinks I''m not paying enough attention to her....I call to her in a concerned voice and then she forgets about the act, runs over, and the loud, normal meows come out....girl, you are so BUSTED! Big faker!

Haha I know exactly which one because I looked there just recently and then I saw that avitar and then I came here and you had changed yours! It threw me for a second, I was like are they the same person?

but at least the girl I saw with it was from Canada, I think or something like that.

LOL Blue...I need to pick either handbags OR diamonds. Not both! Well, I'm done with both for quite some time by the looks of things!

Oh, and the other day, Vincent Napoleon (I just gave him the appropriate middle name the other day) was sitting quite regally, and I noticed that his front paws were pushed together and not crossed like usual....I crossed them for him and he kept them that way LOL... Was too funny...

LOL, MMM! Right over left or left over right?

Now after this thread, any time my husband or I see ours in this position we have to comment out loud whether it''s right over left or left over right.

Thought I''d share this pic of my youngest, Oreo. She has turned into a very strange one, indeed! This is her favorite sitting position. She''s not so much a lap kitty as a "sit next to kitty." And when she''s next to us this is exactly how she sits. Now I''m finding her sitting like this more and more. At least she finally has her belly fur back after being fixed!

Michelle - that picture cracks me up. I''m waiting for her to belch and scratch herself. LOL

Michelle - too cute! I think Oreo needs a remote in her paw. That has to crack you up every time you see her doing that!

Now, I have 3 cats...they''re 18, 6 and 4 or something like that, the 6 year old might be a little older. The eldest and the youngest have always gotten along, but never been close. Like they''d never lay together and they don''t like you to pay attention to the other, just them (if I start petting Kishiu, Rockie will come near me and turn her back to me, its sorta cute). Btw, Kishiu evolved from Kitchu or something like that which is what my grandpa used to call my cats, its like kitty in Polish. Anyway, the calico Cleo and Rockie love each other, always cuddling, clean each other, just cute together, but Kishiu has never really cuddled with the others and always preferred pouncing on them while they rested instead of joining them, the occasional cuddle with Cleo, but never ever with Rock. Rockie was fine living with him as long as he left her alone. So, you''d imagine my surprise when I came home and saw all three of them in bed together! And yes, they have many beds, but this is their favorite...so all three of them were in it together! I''ve caught them a few times cuddling together since, and once! It was just Rock and Kishiu in the bed!

Anyway, I had to share, it was a big deal in our house! And this is the only one they''re all facing the camera, but they are all like why in the world does she keep taking these pictures of us!?

LOL Firegoddess, maybe she needs a stoggie, too!

OMG, Blue! That picture just cracks me up. It looks like the kitty bed will burst at any second! I love that picture and love your cats.

Blue, that pic is awesome. I love when kitties stuff themselves into places they can''t really fit. That one is too funny with all of them crammed in there and practically spilling out.

Catmom: Oreo is sooo cute. That looks very uncomfortable, but cats will contort themselves in the strangest positions! My cats, especially Jasmine, lay on my lap and put their heads face down on my legs. I really don''t know how they breathe like that!
emsmilep.gif

Blue: Your babies are soo sweet. Cats will always surprise you with their antics and personalities. Predictability is not in their vocabulary. That''s part of their charm!

Lovely pics, they look so cosy in their bed! I would just have to disturb and annoy them though! Gimme those bellies!
