First, a long history:
I started looking for a dress in October. I went to 5 salons and nothing was what I had in mind. I wanted something old fashioned looking but most stuff was modern and not my style. It had to be something dramatic because I am getting married on the porch of an ornate Victorian mansion with HUGE 2 story columns. Finally, I wanted a v neck with bell sleeves and I learned I am the only person in the world who wants them.
I found the dress online but only a few local retailers carried the company. I talked to one in mid Jan and they told me they could freight in the one I like so I agreed. A week later I had heard nothing so I called. They told me the owner was handling it and would call me back but she never did. I called again two weeks later and got the same answer and still no call. A new place had opened 60 miles away and they told me they could get it in a week so I agreed. There were numerous further problems with the shipping but I tried it on Sunday and it is the dress. It was getting so bad I had started suggesting showing up to the wedding naked and being done with it.
I don’t look like I am excited in the pictures but I am, it’s just that:
The dress is a size 8 and I ordered a size 4 so it was falling off me.
I had celebrated St. Pat’s the day before
I HATE having my picture taken
I had just discovered the ring is an unmitigated disaster.

And me holding it closer to my body.
I love the detailing on the dress and the beading was better quality than the pricilla''s of boston dresses I tried

Ha ha, b_i_h! It is so great to finally see your face! From everyone''s posts, I think we have an image in our minds of what we think each person looks like, and now we no longer have to wonder! You''re gorgeous!

I have been following your dress search, and I think you definitely found "the one!" It looks lovely on you, and I''m so glad you found exactly what it was you were looking for.

Congratulations!!!

Oh wow. Love the dress on you. It''s so medival!

hi! So nice to your face! The dress looks beautiful on you...

I haven''t read your other post about the ring disaster...you mean e-ring?

hi! So nice to your face! The dress looks beautiful on you...

I haven''t read your other post about the ring disaster...you mean e-ring?
Yes, only it has gotten substantially worse since my lest post about it which was a good six months ago. It is being custom made and it is clear to me know the jeweler is not up to the challange of the ring but because of their ties to the jewelry store where my mom works and because my parents are paying for the wedding, it is a very sticky situation. I saw it for the first time before trying on the dress since it was caste and I burst into tears. It is horrendous and I don''t think they can fix it. We also don''t have the time or money to start over but I would hate to use the little $100 placeholder ring I have been wearing on the wedding day. I am totally at a loss and tearing up just thinking about it.

oh, brazen, I am SO sorry to hear that...is it horrendous because they didn''t get the design you had in mind at all, or is it workmanship? Do your parents know it''s not what you expecting? And, if you don''t feel like rehashing it all here again, please tell me...

Very pretty dress!

So sorry about your ering

I hope you get the ring exactly as you want it.

But ditto what moonfaery said- love the dress on you and it does look medieval! Very pretty. :)

The dress you picked is beautiful, but weren''t you looking for a green wedding dress?

Your dress is gorgeous!! So beautiful!
Sorry to hear about the troubles with your ring.

Stunning dress! Very different than what we''re used to seeing. It looks wonderful on you!

Actually yes. The salon is contancting the company but they are pretty sure it can be done in a pale seafoam with white accents. If not I am getting it in pink champagne, so either way my dress won''t be white.

I love your dress! Especially the back, its so pretty!! Sorry to hear about your ring, I hope its resolved soon.

It looks wonderful on you! I hope finding the perfect dress makes up somewhat for not having the perfect ring. I''m sorry to hear that part isn''t going well.

BIH, you are just gorgeous. And the morning after celebrating St. Paddys on top of the ring situation. Jeez lady, you know how to pile it on yourself. The dress is amazing and in seafoam, fantastic! well, done.

Beautiful!

I will send dust your way, hopefully it will work out.

I just can''t win. Apprently they switched to a different kind of satin about a year ago and since this dress is an older style, they can''t do the new satin colors for it. So I have a choice of blinding white or beige, both of which I hate and make me look sunburn and tend to fade out my hair color. I know green is hard to find so I would have settled for the pink champagne or a pink based ivory, but the yellow bases I just can''t do.
My other choice is to choose a recent dress of theirs and have the sleeves added. The problem is, in the time since they switched to the new fabric they also switched to a more standard, less romantic style
So now I have to decide between a dress I love in a color I hate or different dress I am ok with in a color I love.
I swear, I have yet to have something just go right with this wedding. So far I have a mess of a ring, the wrong colored dress, the band I loved was not avaliable, the venue may still have the uncomfortable brown metal folding chairs even though they said they wouldn''t, we can''t take a honeymoon at all and I just want to go to the court house and be over with it.

Sorry, the car just died permanantly and my FI didn''t get the great job we were hoping for nor is he having any luck finding any job so I just feel overwhelmed by negetivity.

Awww, sweety. So sorry to hear things are lousy.

Maybe it''s a good time for a date night? Or treat yourself to something? I hope things will look up soon.

I''m so sorry brazen.

Is the sample not an option?

Sorry for the string of bad luck! I hope everything works out.

My dear date twin.

I haven''t been on the boards for a few days ... and when I return it''s to your string of bad luck news. I''m so sorry honey.

I have a gown. It''s a Christos Gown that has basque waist. Is made of mikado silk fabric, and is a size 10 in Christos sizes... so a 4-6 in real life. It''s a box pleat ball gown. And it''s really beautiful.

It''s also my "secret" 4th gown that I bought as a sample off ebay for something crazy like 99 bucks-- I don''t count it in my ''three dress" bride thing because it was never a serious contender for me, I just couldn''t pass up the auction. It was a 3000 gown and it''s authentic. I''s currently at my MOH house, she was going to wear it for her wedding-- but changed her mind.

NOW. It''s ivory. But a very light ivory. And it has VERY minimal beading. Actually just a beaded insert that could be easily removed-- and replaced with a green insert. It''s also only got spagetti straps. But they are easy removed, and could be replaced with bell sleeves. I *THINK* that with a good seamstress with some creativity this could be a BEAUTIFUL medieval style gown with GREEN accents. Near your face and at the hem... and on the sleeves.

I don''t have a pic with me.... but have some at home. I will post them for you.

I think as long as you get the proper makeup the day of, and add some green accents to the dress (the sleeves, replace the bodice insert, etc) near your face. It would be a stunning gown on you.

And I am more than will to give it you if you want it. It''s not doing me or anyone else any good. And very few people like basque waist ball gowns, and have the slim figure the dress needs.

My MOH DOES smoke, so the dress will be a bit smokey. But some airing out and maybe a trip to a cleaner would take care of it for you.

I''ll post pics when I get home. I''m happy to just send it to you just for you to try on and see if you even might consider it. I just have to have MOH send it out to me. Like I said, it''s beautiful, and currently useless. It was a sample. But it''s never been married.

Oh brazen,

I am so sorry to hear that nothing is going right. Please don''t let this get you down...everything will work out as it should, I''m sure!

I think Gypsy''s offer is quite a lovely one, and could be a possibility?

Can''t wait to see the pictures of the dress you''re describing, Gypsy...that is so very generous of you!

Please keep us posted on how this all works out, brazen...HUGS!

The dress is pretty much a blank slate. Here''s the original pic from the listing. The train is a chapel train. And no, it''s not a V neck... but I think it''s got some possibilities.

brazen,

Here's a very similar gown available in ivory. I know it's not THE gown, but you might like it just as much? Possibly? I absolutely love the style on you.

Couture D'amour Collection Gown

ETA: Ooh, I like Gypsy's dress too! You could really make it your own.

Well I have been back and forth with the bridal shop and there may be some good news. There is an almost identical dress that probably can be done in a large number of colors. In fact, the only major difference is the sleeves and the company said they could put the sleeves I like on the dress. I will hear back tomorrow with final confirmation, but I have hope yet!

That is a gorgeous dress Gypsy is offering you. Like others I''m sure, have been looking online, feeling so badly for your situation with the wedding planning being difficult right now. Have now learned a great deal about the Society for Creative Anachronisms...they are a devoted bunch! And found some lovely photos to hopefully inspire you. green there are such fantastic wedding photos on this site too.

These dresses are so amazing, and well, Brazen! chin up lady, everyone is pulling for you.

ETA great that you have a new lead! yeah!
