It''s an irrelevant data point in his life, unless you are implying that as a soldier he deserves preferential treatment..

Perhaps it is irrelevant, but can you deny it is ironic?

Part of me does think he deserves some preferential treatment. He fought for this country and risked his life - why can''t he at least see his sons, or have them come here to see him?

Agreed. His Congressman should pass a private bill allowing his children and him to be united in one venue or the other. After all, one can look at this from another point of view: all the soldiers with families in the US or in countries abroad with no travel restrictions get to see their families. Why should those with family in Cuba be the only ones not allowed to see their families?

Deb

I agree that Cuba is still being unfairly punished. But I didn''t get the impression that the article was mainly about that. I thought it was more on the soldier and him unfairly not being able to see his family as a result of the complications with Cuba. He basically just wants his right to see his family restored.

Why shouldn''t soldiers get preferntial treatment? You said your wife is in the service, don''t you believe she should have preferential treatment sometimes? What do you think the limitations are to that? ( seriously, i''m curious, not trying to start anything!

I see your point. It would be difficult if it were changed for one person. I guess maybe it could be changed for all military personnel? I don''t know, it''s a toughie....

I''m with you on crappy medical care! The veteran''s care is a joke. I''ve had so many problems with it all already. I''m getting a medical discharge right now, it''s taking FOREVER!

apparently it seems relevant to this soldier who puts his life on the line for this country.....

congress was quick to act re the schiavo case.....perhaps congress could be just as quick to act and make this soldier an exception? wouldn''t it be a great headline for bush as he rushed from his texas ranch back to the white house to sign the bill allowing this man to visit with his children?
