Is it ''tacky'' to have non traditional music played for these times? FI and I are having our DJ do the ceremony music.

I am absolutely in love with the instrumental from the song "Sailing" by Christopher Cross from 1980, lol, and I want that to be our processional music. I just get this feeling when I listen to it that reminds me of a lovely summer evening, and since our wedding is in August with an outside ceremony, the feelings the instrumental provokes makes me picture it at the wedding. Here''s a link to the instrumental:

You gotta press the ''play'' button under MP3 song title headline.

Hey it''s completely fine in my opinion, it''s your wedding. We''re doing a mix both, with emphasis on mostly traditional. We''re having the theme song for "Somewhere in Time" played during the seating of Grandparents/Mother of Groom and at the very end when guests are leaving we''re having Coldplay''s "Reign of Love" played. So we''re doing traditional, but mixing in two contemporary/popular pieces we really like.

Thank you! I wouldn''t have any problem doing more contemporary though if it was what I wanted and FI wanted..I just always pictured walking to the traditional bridal songs, etc. Lol. So it''s kind of stuck in my head! So I say go with your vision, it''ll be beautiful!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Sarah.

I think its fine too! The processional for us is a classical piece called The Ecstacy of Gold and the recessional is the rock-classic cover of the same piece by Metallica! Not sure what Im walking to yet tho!

Our recessional is the theme song to Indiana Jones...processional is Glasgow Love Song from Love Actually.

That''s awesome Hudson!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I''m not sure about the other songs, but I''m walking down the aisle to Madonna''s "Sooner or Later" (" . . . I always get my man" from the Dick Tracy soundtrack). It will be played by a string quartet, classical style, so guests probably won''t know any better. Then, we''re playing a portion of it ba-ba-voom style as our reception entrance with the band''s female singer singing the last stanza of the song somewhat modified to:

"I''m going to love you like nothing you''ve known
I''m going to love you when you are alone
Sooner is better than later,
But lover, I''ll hover, I''ll plan
This time I''m not only getting
I''m marrying my man"

How''s that for non-traditional?!

We used PM''s Love Theme from Love Actually. I loved the dramatic movements in that song. Then we used "All You Need is Love" for the recessional, which I think several people have done.

Have the music you love - it makes it so much more fun!

I TRIED AND TRIED AND TRIED to go non-traditional (with some funny threads to prove it). If you found something you can walk to that has the right feel and you love it. GO FOR IT.

Not tacky in the least.

My fiance and I are having a civil cermony so the music supplied is to be non religious.

We would like to have a classical version of one of our favourite songs playing as I walk down the aisle, then after the ceremony as we exit, to have the actual original song playing.

Our tastes are very alternative, so it might not be pleasing to the ears of most people there, but it will be special for us.

All of these will be played on the piano:

Entrance for B Party, and Groom: The Way You Look Tonight (by Ol'' Blue Eyes)
My entrance: Can''t Help Falling in Love (Elvis'' version)
Background music during the ceremony: Amazed (Lone Star)
Recessional: Somewhere over the Rainbow

While people are sitting down:
Because You Love Me (Celine Dion)
When I Fall in Love (Nat King Cole)
This Year''s Love (David Gray)
Your Song (Elton John)
Ode to Joy (Beethoven)

So not very traditional at all. And I''m going to engrave a line from Can''t Help Falling in Love into FI''s wedding band.

I say do it! It''s your day, make it yours. I haven''t decided recessional music yet, but my brother is playing (& singing) NIck Cave''s "Into My Arms" on the guitar for the processional. FI and I exchanged CDs on date 2 (after a long conversation on date 1 regarding how a proper mix tape should be put together) and it was the first song on there.

Absolutely lovely selection Freke!!!!!!! Thanks for all the advice!!

Go for non-traditional! We walked to Beatles songs put to rococo music by Trio Rococo. I loved it!

Go for it! I really want to have Sigur Ros for at least part of the ceremony music!

That is a phenomenal song. I tear up every time I hear it.

DH and I had The Beatles'' "Here Comes the Sun" played as our recessional. It took some finagling, as the Catholic church can be strict about these things, but we did it.

I say go for it!

We also just had some non-traditional music at our wedding. We had the Vitamin String Quartet''s version of "Beautiful Day" for our processional and their version of "All You Need is Love" for the recessional. I thought it was perfect!

DEFINITELY GO FOR IT!!!!!! :)

whoops...all caps makes me look like a crazy lady! lol

i am doing a bunch of non-traditional songs while people are sitting and then my bridal party is walking down to #34 by the dave matthews band. i am walking down to either "sea of love" by cat power or "oceans" by pearl jam. recessional will be "two step" by dave matthews band

celebrate we will! :)

have fun with your choices!

We found the perfect song for my "aisle walk" this evening.

It is a string quartet instrumental version of a song called "Join Me" by Finnish band H.I.M.

I love it. It sounds perfectly lovely and romantic for the walk towards my almost hubby! If any of you know the actual song, you might think the lyrics are really not appropriate for a wedding ("Would you die tonight for love" and "Join me in death" etc)...but as a string instrumental it is just divine.

Oh, and for the end of the ceremony while we sign the register and make our way out we think we might have song called "For Now And Ever" by Super Furry Animals. (Welsh band and one of our favourite bands since I was about 14...I'm going to be 29 when we get married!). It is typically us, but the lyrics of the chorus are "We'll be together, for now and ever"...says it all really. It it really upbeat too. A funny thing worth noting too is that the first lyric of that song is "It's been a funny kind of day!"

It really will have been too!

H and I share a love for Sigur Ros! That is awesome!

Princess - I say go for it absolutely! I listened to it and really like it actually. We haven''t talked ceremony music yet, but I have a feeling we will be a bit unconventional!

Thanks for your input ladies. My wedding will actually only be the 4th wedding I''ve ever been in, and two of the three, I was under 18 years old. I really don''t remember much about the actual ceremony. It''s cool to see so many people go unconventional!

I think the most amazing weddings are when you can tell the bride and groom have put their own touches on everything. If you want contemporary music, have contemporary music- i''m sure it will be lovely

I have a friend who did her processional to REM. Another went the traditional route and had violinists play Canon''s Pachabel in D minor. The best part was how fitting both songs were for their circumstances. So I say pick out that song you like and will reflect you guys best.

DH and I are huge Morricone fans and considered Ecstasy of Gold as a processional - we ended up having Playing Love from The Legend of 1900 for the signing of the register. DH wanted The Soldier''s Song

which I vetoed!

I stuck with ultra-traditional for the Processional - ''I Vow to Thee My Country'' by Holst, and completely non-traditional ''Nellie the Elephant'' as our recessional (we thought about ''So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish'') with Morricone and Dolly Parton pieces in the middle...

Raised a few eyebrows I''m sure, but we wanted pieces of music that had relevance to us rather than picked from the ''Suitable Wedding Music'' list.
