I have absolutely no need for yet another ring, or two, but here we go again.
Those who remember my gem haul from a few years ago know I have a heap of unset gems and it will take me 2 maybe 3 extra lifetimes to set them. I will, eventually, get around to selling a few of them, in the meanwhile let’s recap.
Im a bit tight, I’m reluctant to commission settings here in Australia. The prices quoted make you cry and setting gems elsewhere across the world is tricky what with shipping, insurance and reimportation. So I look for pre loved settings to utilise.
Truth was set. Whoa, that one was a story and half! Truth was a yellow sapphire of 5.5 carats, DK set it in a halo setting. Truth lives with Suzanne and one day, Covid permitting, I will make it to Texas for a reunion with both Suzanne and Truth .
The pink sapphire was set. That was a setting I got from Ivy & Rose, happy with that result.
The diamond setting I bought for one of the 3 carat round sapphires ended up with another sapphire in it. I was umming and ahhhing about them. Do sI make earrings (quoted $6,500 here for some dangle earrings set with wee diamonds - ugh) do I set one, sell one or keep them as a pair? A pair of 3 carat round matched sapphires is a bit unicornish. Sigh.
Then I saw a ring on eBay and thought “that is massively underdescribed” so I’ll take a chance on it. The chance paid off and that cushion sapphire went into the setting. Very happy with that one. So the pair remain a pair.
That left me with a modest setting needing a centre. From the gem haul is what seems to be a white sapphire cut as an OEC. About 5 carats worth. Lovely interesting facetting. Could be synthethic, can’t see zip as it’s a colourless gem, but its cute.
so that one more project!
Then I bought a setting off a PSer @donnabrsd which arrived today. Yay.
I think I’ll set the purple sapphire in that mount and wear it as a pinky ring.
so my second project ring utilising a pre loved setting.
And if anyone else has some empty pre loved settings to move along, hit me up ok.
