I didn''t pass my exam at the beginning of June. Now I have to take it again on July 24 and 27... I studied 3 weeks straight for the first one, and now I have to study for 4 weeks for the second one and hopefully I will pass cause if I don''t I have to be kicked out of the PhD program and look for a job. :-/

I have to study extra hard which means I have to not think about any more "my future engagement ring" stuff... AND i have to limit PS visits ...

but its sort of okay cause my boyfriend said,

"I''m sorry :-( I hope you aren''t too sad, we''ll study extra hard
> > > together now, ok. I love you and you''re still the smartest girl I know :-D"

so now i''m cheered up.

so i need some good vibes :-P

I just wanted to share before I had to go STUDY AGAIN. yech.

my boyfriend''s studying for his exam too which is in August. I keep saying we should both quit and get jobs and become rich, haha.

Froufrou: Ugh, from someone that gets really upnerved over exams, I felt the exact same way a week and 1/2 ago. Sending you lots of good vibes. Stay focused and have confidence in yourself. You''re going to get through it! ....oh....and posting on PS seems to always get you what you want. PS fairy or something

GOOD VIBES coming your way!!!! I wish you luck and fortitude with all the studying! It sounds like a big exam, but once it''s over, and you''ve passed, you''ll be so happy! Good luck!!!

Lots of good vibes for you...so you and your boyfriend pass with flying colors! You can do it!

thanks, all.

ally, sorry, i didnt get to ever find out, did you end up doing well on your exam??

Well, i am meeting with a professor in about 15 minutes to "Discuss my Results". we''ll see what he tells me...hopefully they will give me my exam back and tell me what I did wrong, though they said they don''t normally like to do that...

Sending you strong vibes and wishes for good luck on the exam!!!!

Froufrou: Yes, I passed the class. I got 50% on the midterm, so it was a long stretch, but ended up with 76% overall, which isn''t fantastic, but I''ll take it. I would insist on them showing you your old exam. You''ll learn a lot from seeing what you did wrong on the old exam, and it''ll help you improve. Study hard, and keep yourself rested for the big day!

Is this for your qualifying exam?

Good luck, hang in there, pace yourself and we will send the PS fairydust your way!!

Good luck! Sending positive vibes your way as I type...

I''m sending good vibes your way. Good luck!

Ally, im so glad you passed :):):)

Fire- yes, this is the dreaded Qualifying exam :-P

So I went to talk to the prof about it and Ally, guess what, THEY DONT LET ANYONE SEE THEIR OLD EXAM. Nor do they give you any kind of like "here is where you got it wrong" nothin. Its very secretive. Except the entire department did get "cc"ed on the "you failed" email, so thats just fabulous. Well, all the relevant Profs and the Director and the Assistant Director did.

All I know is I "was very weak" for Part I and II and did "okay" for Part III and IV. And they are "strongly urging" me to retake it in July, but even though I "passed" III and IV I still have to retake all the parts. Tomorrow I am going to go talk to one of the girls who passed who is going to give me some of her solutions to some of the old quals.

I really hope this PS fairydust works...because I really don''t know how I can study even more than I''ve already studied.... :)

thanks guys!!!! :)

FrouFrou: very strong vibes are coming your way from someone who has also had to retake the qualifying exam. You can do it!!!!

Sending good vibes and the PS exam fairy your way!

Froufrou: Oh I hate it when they won''t show you the exam. They do that in med because they REUSE the exact same questions the next year..and so many of the same questions will often (but not ALWAYS) reappear on the remake exam. So make sure you do a cursory overview in your head of the questions you can remember to see how you would have answered certain questions differently (I''m assuming this isn''t multiple choice!)

I also hate it because if they don''t show you the exam, it kind of implies that they have something to hide no? Like that part of the grading is subjective and they don''t want to justify...so that would annoy me....UGH and that mass email thing is just not nice.

Hang in there. We''ve had a couple of LIW that were afraid of failing out of graduate programs. We haven''t lost one yet
