Now I really did it :((

Glad tomorrow is Friday but bummed out that the window people were supposed to show up from 7 to 9 in the morning. They left a call for the technician and couldn’t get hold of him. DH is working from home and I had intended to greet them in the morning to talk through it and then leave for work. Decided to just go to work and hopefully they will still show up today as planned. I hope the technician is ok and there isn’t a car accident/medical issue preventing them from coming as planned. However, I’m having doubts whether the will take care of our issue. Ahhh.. I’ll try not to be anxious. It will eventually get resolved. Things will be ok! There are just small things in life! It's just a hole in the ceiling. I still have a home with running water and electricity! haha I just went into dear diary mode talking more to myself than ya'll. Anyhow, hope everyone has a great one!

@marcy – You sure are a good friend to help out a friend that involves chocolate. I love caramel!

Hmmm can I be honest to say that I’m a bit worried about your eyes and don’t have much confidence in that Optometrist? Of course I don’t have the interaction you do but it seems like there are several signs that I personally would want a second opinion on. I’m sure Missy has more thoughts on it though since she was in the industry for so long. Sorry if I’m being a bit too forward but I just really wanted to throw it out there as we all just care for your best interest.

Good idea on the excel template. It’s like the “honey do list.” Hopefully they knock it down and cross out all the issues!

Hurray on the RV progress!!!!!! : )

@missy – hahahaha smelling like chocolates. Interesting! I don’t think I would want to smell like it either. I probably would subconsciously feel sticky as well.

Laser tag was honestly so much fun. I got there a bit late so I wish I had more time to meet all of DH’s team members. Quite a big team of almost 30 people but I remember a few of them from the last time we hosted everyone at our home. Played 3 games that night. The teams were randomized. I’m happy to report that I was bringing it on strong for the ladies. Ranked 11th on the first game, 9th on the second game, and 4th on the third game which is the one that actually mattered as they were giving out t-shirts for the top 11th ranked players. I’m really not a competitive person but I think growing up with my guy cousins where I played a lot of video and computer games helped. I had more fun trying to find DH and shoot him. Some of the team members brought their kids as well. This one daughter had this adorable blue dress on. Had no idea how to play but it was so endearing as she was walking throughout the whole area, up and down the stairs, with this huge smile on her face. I think she had the most fun out of all of us! Sorry I don’t have any photos but I know they took a group one yesterday. It doesn’t hurt when you get “tagged” and there is no physical contact unless you accidentally bump into someone or run into a wall (supposedly it does happen in the dark). The vest that you wear doesn’t vibrate or do anything but your “gun” talks back to you to announce if you hit someone or get hit.

Training is going well. Thanks for thinking of me. Yes, this weekend on Sunday we are doing 100 miles and it will be on the tri bike. My poor booty and lady parts are sore just thinking about it.

@junebug17 – Good luck with the cleaning and the closing of condo/house! Hang in there! I bet you can’t wait until it’s all over and you get to celebrate. Twice!

Oohhh look forward to the future studs!

Hello lovelies

100 miles @PierreBear  Make sure you've got plenty of padding on your important little places! What a greedy oinker grabbing the chocolates, how rude of that person. Your evening sounds fun, I've never been to laser tag, but it used to be really popular here and I remember taking DS to several parties when he was young.

What a bummer about the window people, I hope they turn up and find the problem.

Wow @junebug17 2 closings in 2 days, it's going to be really hectic next week, but hopefully after that, things will calm down and you can get back to some kind of normality.

@missy I like to leave the house all clean before we go away, so I know I have a few days respite when I get back, so it's usually a whirl of activity before we go. I also like to get my packing done early, so we put our clothes out the week before, then I put them in vacuum bags. I packed the cases yesterday, so just the wash bags to go in. As we're not flying from Heathrow this time (flights to Orlando are from Gatwick), we're going on Tuesday afternoon and staying in a hotel overnight. Traffic on the M25 is notoriously bad, so we don't want to risk missing the flight. We fly on Wednesday morning and DS and g/f arrive on Friday. We're planning to hit all the theme parks and hopefully get up to the Kennedy Space Centre too.
We all leave on Monday 16th, and we arrive home on the 17th.

I don't like the sound of the Opto telling you one thing and telling Marty something else @marcy Why do they do that, think the 'little woman' won't understand ?:x2 I think you're right to consult with a retinal specialist, you have nothing to lose getting an expert opinion.

Good news on the RV hopefully the deal will be done soon, then on to something fun :D

Today's Soup du Jour is French Onion  which was served with a cheesy crouton.

Hello girls,
SO sorry for being such a terrible poster! Life is crazy right now. We moved into my Mother's on Sunday. Such fun, LOL. She is super sweet, but still. Never a good idea. But they are starting renovating the roof on the old house now, and the new one is not finished, so we just left. NOTHING is going to cause any more delays now if I can help it!!
You girls are so wicked for talking about boots! I swear (sorry) it's all your fault! I bought a very nice pair of Stuart Weitzman yesterday; Vanland. ALL YOUR FAULT!! :mrgreen2::lol-2::lol-2::lol-2::P2

These ones:
Vanland.jpg
http://www.stuartweitzman.com/products/vanland/black-suede/?DepartmentId=731&DepartmentGroupId=78

I chose these over Lowland because of the sturdier (?) sole. I don't wish them to fall apart on me when the snow and ice/salt hits the streets.. LOL Maybe less elegant, but at least they fit me properly. And come on! It is SW - how bad can it be?? :geek2:

I took a picture of T for you. Will upload through my phone, so "please refer to my next post".

Missy, HRH is adorable!! SO so beautiful! And that bracelet - do tell??
Marcy, your food makes my day. Seriously.
Pierrebear, please come visit and make me chocolates... Silly windows! Good luck!
Austina, a smaller cruise ship sounds wonderful!
June, tons of good luck next week! Studs! Yippi!! :mrgreen2: Yes, please keep us posted!
Kristie, are you OK? And your two furbabies?
Jaaron, hope life is calming down for you!

We will be packing up the kitchen tomorrow (Saturday), making it ready for the contractors to put in new windows. Might be a couple of weeks away, but no time like the present!! I NEED MY HOUSE NOW!!!!

My dearest darling F will have her next (and hopefully last) surgery on Tuesday 10 October. I have started sleeping badly already. DH is not even protesting when I put her in bed with us at night. Only way I can sleep now is with her next to me so I feel her being there. Oh well. It will be OK. It has to be.

Oh and by the way - should we not plan a NIRDI holiday here in my North for next summer?? :Up_to_something::Up_to_something::mrgreen2:

Good morning girls! Happy International Coffee Day!
GoodMorningCoffee.Gif

Junie hang in there you're doing so amazingly well! Woohoo to getting both closings done within a day of each other. We did both closings in one day if you remember but probably you don't. It was amazing because then we were done! Sold Sea Girt house and bought the Jersey shore home we are in now all in the same day. Sea Girt in AM and the other house that afternoon. Greg was against doing both in the same day (risky if something didn't go smoothly) and it happened to be on a day with a snowstorm too hahaha but we made it through and we did it. And you can and will too! Sending you lots of good luck vibes and smooth closing thoughts. May everything go well and you will be done with all of this soon. (((Hugs))).

PierreBear ooh hope the windows are fixed by now or at the very least by today. Thinking good thoughts for you. Glad you enjoyed laser tag the other night with your dh's coworkers. Thank you for the detailed description.Have a great training this weekend!

Austina I flew into Gatwick when I last visited London (a long time ago) and it was a long trip to my hotel and I was all alone. I am trying to remember why I didn't fly into Heathrow and I think it was the cost. But my memory could be all wrong. Glad you are staying overnight so you don't miss the flight in the morning and I hope you will have a wonderful trip. It sounds like so much fun! I love theme parks and the Kennedy Center. I also like to leave a clean home especially when I will be away for a few weeks. No fun coming back to a messy house.

Scandi Yay are these your first SW pair? So excited for you! Please do share a photo with them on your lovely legs. I think I have a SW pair similar to these. LOL and OMG I have so many I have lost track but seriously. Here they are...not exactly the same as the heel is lower but a sturdier sole. Sorry for the horrible photo but it's the only one I have and I don't know where the Playtime boots are. Beach or NYC that I know for sure.:P2

graycity5050swboots.jpeg

The Lowland are plenty sturdy however just an fyi but I know you don't love flats so this is a good choice for you I think. Also an fyi all the SW boots do get re-soled after a year or so with my shoemaker. I am very hard on my boots.

YAY for almost being finished with the house woohoo. It will all have been worth the (long) wait.:appl:

Please hug sweet F for me and though the surgery is a few weeks away I am thinking good thoughts for her and sending lots of healing vibes her way. (((Hugs))).

I was happy with my progress organizing and decluttering yesterday besides a bit of a detour down memory lane when I found old photographs and shared them with a few of my girlfriends. LOL I always get sidetracked but it made it enjoyable and I finished the whole dining room armoire woohoo. I still have a long way to go but it can wait till we return.

We are heading out soon for the beach vacation. Of course last night I chipped a triple filling on the lower left side last tooth on the end and I just have a bad feeling about it. I don't know when it happened because I didn't feel anything expect my tongue all of a sudden went to the chipped filling and I cannot stop feeling it with my tongue now. You know how that goes. In any case we are still heading out and hoping for the best because this is a complicated tooth and filling (I have 2 triple filling teeth right next to each other on the left lower side) and my dentist had wanted to refill them at some point in the near future but it would take a few visits and I also feel that I would probably need a double/triple root canal so I am so not wanting to do this especially now. Fingers crossed it doesn't cause me any problems or pain at least for the next month or so. October is a BUSY month and I cannot afford time in the dental chair. Ugh.:knockout::(sad

Other than that we are good and looking forward to being "away" for a while. Have a lovely day girls!:wavey:

Good morning and happy Friday! It’s a quiet day in the office over here. My coworker with the kidney surgery said she is doing well. Many stones were removed but some were imbedded so deeply that the surgeon didn’t remove it. I’m so glad that she’s recovering already.

This weekend we are doing an “escape room” with some friends. The concept is that you are in a room with puzzles and under a time limit, you have to figure out clues and other patterns to “escape” the room. I’ve done it once before and it’s not my cup of tea. Puzzles under a time limit feels like taking a big test in college! Hahaha… but we wanted to spend time with our friends and they had an extra ticket so we are joining in. Not sure how much help I’ll be but it will be a memorable experience. Have any of ya’ll done it before?

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

@Austina – Yummm I’ve never made French onion soup before. It’s honestly one of my favorite soups but I haven’t dared to make it. I think you are inspiring me to give it a try. Do you bake the cheesy crouton in the oven? Your DH is a lucky man. Do ya’ll still have an entrée on the side or just have it as the main meal? I love everything soup related and find that I love the broth more than the substance inside. : ) Ahhh I’m ready for fall and winter!

@Scandinavian – nice boots!!! Does this mean if I post more pictures of bling that you will get more so we can look at it?? Haha… I’ll start posting pictures of cats too and maybe you can get a baby kitten?

Enjoy the boots and show us your outfit that goes with it!

Good luck to F and her surgery!

@missy – Oh gosh the window people said they won’t come out until next Saturday. It’s a long wait and is raining as I type this out. However, it’s not severe enough rain so it’s not coming through the hole in the window. I’m really at their mercy so whenever they can come out, I just have to say “ok.” I did have my customer service manager call me back yesterday and agree that waiting another week on their mistake is a bit ridiculous. Not sure if she can crack that whip and change the schedule around to expedite our appointment. I also have a fear that if we rustle too many feathers that the technician might not do a good job on the testing and there will be repercussions. Ahhh…. Deep breath…. : )

Sorry you chipped a filling. Hopefully there won’t be any pain and they can get that resolved for you the next time you visit the dental chair. It’s never a fun visit. : (

PierreBear! I am sorry about the window mishap OMG and I hope they can get to you soon before any more damage is done. So sorry! I am very glad your coworker is recovering from her surgery and I hope she is out of any discomfort.

Well we just got here and oops yet another issue. I swear you cannot make this stuff up and I know you girls get it. Rainwood if you're reading I know you will feel my pain. We arrive at the beach house and I go in and I hear a distinct hissing sound. It's coming from the fridge area. Greg gets in with the kitties and I ask him to do you hear it? To which he says no and are you sure it isn't a normal sound. To which I reply it is NOT normal something is wrong or should I say there is a missyhap somewhere here lol. Anyway he listens and I make him aware of the soft hissssssss and he goes down to the basement and comes up a few minutes later and says it's a leak in the the water line to the fridge. He stopped the leak by turning off the valve but now we cannot get water or ice to the fridge till tubing is replaced.

OMG cannot freaking make this stuff up. Greg just went to the hardware store to get copper tubing and he will replace it himself today. OK just got back from hardware store and though he wanted copper tubing the guy at the hardware store said it will kink. So when we redo kitchen we will redo with copper tubing as we need to add another hole there for copper tubing. So replacing it with plastic again grrr. Greg will replace it after our bike ride.

LOL so that's my update of the AM. Hoping I won't be coming back here anytime soon with anymore unpleasant updates.
Oh just one more. I contacted my friend at the beach (about 50 minutes away) who is a dentist. He is away but coming back next Wednesday so I will see him then and fingers crossed I don't experience any pain before then! I hate tooth pain. It is the worst.

Have a good afternoon girls!!!

Hey everyone!

Missy, thanks for the support and encouragement - yes, something to be said for having the closings over with quickly! I had forgotten that you closed on both houses the same day. My issue is I am over an hour away from the attorney's office (he was originally my mother's attorney, and he drew up the trust so easier to just stick with him) and I'll have to drive there and back two days in a row. He's going to try to have all the documents for my mother's house ready by Monday so I can sign them then and I won't have to go back - but he didn't sound too confident. After I close on the condo on Monday I have to drive to my mother's and help ,my brother move. So just a lot of driving and inconvenience but it will all be done by next week.

Great job on getting the armoire cleared out! After things have settled down for me I'm going to take a break for a few weeks, and then I'm going to start tackling my house. It's a daunting task, we've been here 25 years and the house is filled with "stuff" generated by 4 people.

Happy Coffee Day to you, from one coffee lover to another! maybe I'll have an extra cup to celebrate ha. Love your boots, and Bea looks great too! Sorry to hear about your tooth, and I hope It doesn't start giving you problems.

PB, glad you had a great time at the laser tag outing. Sending good thoughts that the problem with the ceiling was figured out yesterday. Wow, 100 miles, that's quite a ride and I'm wishing you lots of luck with it!

Austina, the onion soup looks yummy, it's dh's favorite. Getting ready for a trip can be exhausting lol! You must be so excited and I know you will have a wonderful time.

Scandi, love the boots! They will look great on you. I'm hoping the roof renovations go smoothly and quickly so that you are back in your own home soon. Sending lots of hugs to you for F's surgery, I know it's very worrisome when a pet is facing a procedure. Adorable pic of T!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Hello lovelies

Oh no @missy it never rains but it pours! Hopefully the tooth wont cause any problems until you get to the dentist. If it's just a straightforward MOD (front, middle and back) it shouldn't necessarily mean root canals. Unfortunately root canals can make teeth more brittle, so on hard working teeth like back molars, a lot of dentists like to crown them after the RCT. If you do end up having to go down that route, please don't let the dentist rush you in to the crown. The tooth needs to settle completely, otherwise if there are any problems, it'll mean drilling through the crown.

I hope Greg can fix the fridge easily, another problem you don't need :( Once that's all sorted, you can concentrate on enjoying your long stay at the beach house.

Everything crossed for you @junebug17 it's standard practice here for a simultaneous sale and purchase on the same day, and having moved several times, I do understand and sympathise on how stressful next week will be for you. Sending good wishes for smooth transactions.

Another 'kinky booted' NIRDI @Scandinavian  They're fab!! Little pup looks so cute. Keeping fingers, toes and paws crossed for F's upcoming surgery.

How long do you think you'll be staying at your mother's? I expect you can't wait for it all be done.

I've never heard of the escape room @PierreBear but I think it sounds like fun, I like puzzles and games :D

The French onion soup is very easy, and very filling. I just toast the bread, then top with cheese and stick it under the grill to melt (broil?). You should give it a try. We don't usually have anything else with it on Thursday evenings, and I make enough for lunch on Fridays. I could live on soup, and probably would if I was alone :mrgreen2:

Hope everything is ok with you @marcy and a big wave out to all the other NIRDIs :wavey:

I'm back from my latest adventure, and am scrambling to catch up with everything, including this thread. More about my trip later.

@missy Yes, I feel your pain when you open the door to the beach place and something isn't working right. But at least you have your repairman with you!!! And bummer to the chipped filling. It's so weird that once you discover something like that, your tongue cannot resist going to it all the time. Yay for a few weeks at the beach. You need to rest up for October!!! And I saw that photo of the deer in your yard. Are you trying to poach my landscaping crew???

@junebug17 I'm so glad the real estate portion of your life is coming to an end. Good for you!! You're a great daughter and sister. I think you should get the bigger studs as a reward/reminder. Two places, two closings, two earrings!!!! Every time you wear them you can remember what you accomplished and be proud of yourself.

@marcy I thought of you when I was on my trip as I lay on my back in the middle of a logging road in the pitch black trying to photograph the Milky Way. The photos didn't come out as well as I'd like, but the memory of that night is fabulous.

@Scandinavian Think of how nice it will be when you're back in your own, FINISHED, house. Nothing in the next few weeks will be more challenging that what you've had to go through on that remodel so far. And hope F does well. T is so cute, I just want to give him a big hug.

@Calliecake Hey, girl, I need photos of you know what!!!!

@LLJsmom Hope your busy season isn't starting already. And I hope it isn't too busy later in October!!

@Austina I made French onion soup for the first time at a culinary bootcamp this spring at the Culinary Institute of America (the other CIA). It isn't hard but we had to make a big batch to serve 12 and I had to peel and slice 8 onions. With those high BTU commercial burners though I had them caramelized in 20 minutes!! Would have taken an hour at home.

@PierreBear Your baking class looks like it covers a lot of things. Have you done or are you going to do pies? Those are my favorite, but it took a long time for me to reliably make a good crust, and even now they can go either way. I come from a family of great pie makers so I didn't have to learn until later and I was always trying to reduce the amount of fat in the crust which is just asking for disaster!! Love the cakes though too. I would never have the patience to frost them properly.

@jaaron Sounds like it's been a crazy summer for you!! Hope everything settles down for you this fall.

As for me, I went on a photography tour to the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and other sites in Arizona. The trip started off with a GTG with @azstonie and I got to meet her, her DH, and my Westie besties!! It was a lovely evening, and those pups were so so sweet, even the vixen Maggie!! We got to reunite our 6-stone ring twins, and K showed me her amazing colored stone ring collection. I got to try on all different shapes of stones and styles. It was like being in a fabulous jewelry store. And we were terrible PS'ers because we didn't take a photo of a darn thing!! We were too busy having a good time. Thanks for the hospitality, K!!

Then it was off to Flagstaff, Sedona, and parts north. It was an all-woman trip, and everyone else was less than half my age, but we had a great time and it was fun hanging out with such interesting women and hearing the thoughts of a younger generation. And I was able to keep up, although I was exhausted at the end of each day. I haven't edited all of my photos (took almost 800), but wanted to give you a few sneak peeks. I was shooting with a DSLR so some of the files are too big to upload, but I'll try to include a few plus some from my iPhone. First up was Sedona, which I'd been to once on a brief stopover:

DSC_0071.jpg

Then it was on to the Grand Canyon. I'd been to some of the other national parks in the SW but never the big daddy of them all. It really is grand:

DSC_0088.jpg
Grand Canyon Pink.jpg

And then on to Lower Antelope Canyon which I've wanted to go to for years. I'll see if I can get any of my photos in a new post. If not, I'll do a few iPhone pics instead.

So here's Lower Antelope Canyon, all just iPhone shots because none of my DSLR files are small enough. Bummer! But such a cool place. Some, but not all, are already on IG:

We also went to Upper Antelope Canyon by way of boat on Lake Powell, and Horsehoe Bend but don't have any photos of those on my phone. It was great fun, and I'm so glad I went.

HI:

Rainwood: your photos are breathtaking. My DH has the BEST memories of his GC trip (but his pictures don't match yours.....).. Thank you for sharing.:wavey:

cheers--Sharon

I meant to tell you how glad I am you're cycling again. You need to get that bike time in before it gets too cold! I thought I'd actually said that and saw that my message to you was entirely in my head!!

Missy, I think we were posting at the same time...ugh, sorry about the fridge and hopefully it will be an easy fix, yay for Greg being handy. You must be so sick of dealing with refrigerators! Sending good thoughts that your tooth doesn't give you any trouble in the next few days.

Austina, I think I missed your most recent post too...yes, I will give the soup a try, it's the perfect food for the cold winter days that are looming ahead of us.

Rainwood, thank you for your kind words...I guess in spite of all my stumbling and fumbling through this process, I am coming close to pulling this off lol. And yes, studs would be a very fitting reward!

What a fabulous adventure! How fun that you were able to meet Kristie and her crew, and that you got to play in her jewelry box! Your pics are GORGEOUS!!! They look like they were taken by a professional photogragher. You've captured the majesty of that amazing scenery so beautifully. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time and I'm sure the memories of your trip will bring you much joy.

There's been a complication with the sale of my mother's house - an issue with the buyer, so the closing will not be next Tuesday. Frustrating because I really want to be done with this and things are up in the air right now but at least it gives us more time for my brother to move and things won't be as rushed.

Have a good night, and a good day tomorrow!

Hi NIRDIs!

I am so far behind.

Missy, I admit the white kitchens started growing on my last year. I think I’d really like one. Maybe if we ever move. You are right that stopping the progression in my eye is the best thing I can do. I guess it didn’t dawn on me how long it was going to take. You love cycling so whatever it takes, right? Cleaning out 2 drawers is progress. I like Greg’s Swiss cheese method of cleaning things out. I should do one section at a time the night before I put our trash out. Is your house there heated by steam radiators? IMO that is the best heat. Some of the older buildings at college had that kind of heating and I loved going to class in those rooms. Of course I’m always cold. How nice to find some pictures to trigger memories of good times past. I always enjoy looking through old pictures. Oh no to chipping a tooth. I know exactly what you mean how your tongue just always go to it now. I hope it doesn’t cause you pain or problems and you can get it fixed soon. Woo hoo to a long vacation at the beach. LOL to Missyhap. Oh no to a leak in the water hose to the refrigerator.

Junebug, sorry to hear you are having a stressful and hectic week. Good luck getting everything done and for smooth closings. Hopefully the issue with the buyer is resolved quickly. Sorry you have to do so much driving back and forth. Sending hugs your way. I agree with Rainwood’s suggestion of getting your bigger studs.

PierreBear, how frustrating on the window people not showing up as expected. Did they show up to talk to your husband? I hope they figure what is going on with the leak. I appreciate your thoughts on my eye and a second opinion. I am thinking about it for sure. Glad you had fun playing laser tag. Good luck on Sunday. That is a lot of miles. Cool! That’s great your co-worker is recovering from her surgery.

Austina, you are very organized on your planning and packing. Have a blast on your trip. Kennedy Space Center was fabulous when I visited there years ago. Marty would love your delicious french onion soup. It’s his favorite.

Scandi, sorry you had to move in with your mother for a while. Hope that goes smoothly. Your new boots look fabulous. I hope F’s surgery goes well. That is sweet you and her are keeping each other company to sleep. Bug hugs to her and you because I know you are worried.

Rainwood, it sounds like you had a great time on your last adventure. Beautiful pictures from your trip. How cool to catch up with Kristie and Bob and the cute Westies. Your view of the Milky Way sounds beautiful; pictures can never equal that live view. The spot we used to hold our star party was at 9100 feet and was so dark the Milky Way cast shadows on the ground. I’d usually just spend the first hour after dark just looking around the sky. I always missed meteors though. Even though it was so dark I couldn’t see anyone’s face if anyone was talking to me I’d look towards them while we were talking. And of course a fabulous meteor would streak overhead and I’d miss it. The joke was if you want to see a meteor just go talk to Marcy.

Hi Sharon!

Good news. We no longer own an RV. That is an official Yippee Skippy! Marty’s buddy bought it today. They are looking at the generator on Monday to see if they can fix it (at our expense) and after that we are done. I told Marty we should go out there tomorrow and see what we need to do and sign since Marty is out of town for basically 2 weeks but as he pointed out; he’s not that pressed to hurry out there to pay them the difference.

Our cleaning lady is coming at 7:30 in the morning. I might opt for an afternoon shower so I can sleep in. Marty and I will probably go to breakfast. Marty has a tee time at noon.

I made cheeseburger logs for supper. They are basically meatloaf but mini sized rolled in to a log. I made them with ground sirloin; they were quite tasty. The last few times I made them I used regular hamburger and they were pretty dry. Marty had mentioned them the other day and I thought, hmm those sound good.

We have friends coming over for supper tomorrow. I picked up Marty sized T-bones, white asparagus and cake. My friend is bringing her cheesy scalloped potatoes. Should be fun.

Have a great weekend.
Marcy

Good morning girls!

Junie good luck with all the driving you have to do and the closings and I sure hope the attorney has all the papers signed and ready to go to save you more driving time! Ugh to the complication with your mom's house closing. So sorry sweetie. But it will all happen despite the delay. Super frustrating though and I am sorry! (((Hugs))). When you are done with it all we will celebrate together! Good times are ahead and you will get through this. Sending more hugs and good thoughts and lots of PS *******DUST*******. Perhaps a blingy gift in October in Lambertville awaits you...8):appl:

Austina thank you for the helpful advice! Are you a dentist? You are quite knowledgeable and I appreciate you sharing the info. I have had a few root canals over the years and they aren't fun. Especially that needle ugh. The last time I had one it took a couple of months (not exaggerating) for my jaw to get back to what it was re no pain and no stiffness so I do not want another root canal because I am worried i won't recover my jaw function next time. In any case right now I am A OK and actually another dentist friend of mine (not at the shore but about an hour away in Colts Neck) so kindly is coming into her office today just for me as she doesn't work this Saturday. She insisted on taking a look at it when I spoke with her yesterday. Of course now I feel fine with no sensitivity and I hate that I am dragging her in to her office on her day off. I want to call her and say don't bother but I don't think that would go over well so I am heading in to see her early this AM.

I never had French Onion soup and it looks so yummy Austina. Now I want to try some. Of course I am more hungry than usual (or should I say Hangry lol) because I am doing a modified fast since last night before sundown since it is Yom Kuppur today the day of atonement. I haven't observed it for years because well lots of reasons and the main one being I really just couldn't not drink for 26 hours straight any more. It was just too tough a fast for me and I stopped many years ago after doing the punishing fast for many decades. Fast forward to now. I decided to do a modified fast so at least in spirit I could "atone" for my sins over the past year in some form at least. I am superstitious and I know it is super-silly but there you go.

Rainwood, I love seeing your lovely GV photos. I didn't take any photos when I visited but that was in the early 2000s and I didn't have a phone or camera so now I'd be a photo taking fiend. LOL. But your photos are masterpieces so I wouldn't come close to your talent. LOVE. Thanks so much for sharing. I loved traveling all of Arizona and saw from South to North as well. My favorite place is Sedona and then Flagstaff. It was a wonderful trip and I am glad you had an amazing time as well. I knew Maggie and Finn and you would all adore each other. So pleased you were able to have a wonderful visit with the K family when you were there.:appl:

Yes you are quite right. I have my own handyman with me at all times hahaha. When we got back from our wonderful bike ride yesterday Greg got right to work fixing it and woohoo 45 minutes later it was all repaired. Thank goodness for easy repairs right? If only they were all so easy! Thanks for your empathy.I think it was my tooth I chipped and not a filling. A tooth that is mainly all filling so well it wouldn't shock me if I need a post and a crown. We will see. I sure wish this could be fixed as easily as the water line haha and no I am not trying to poach your deer. More of your deer photos when you get them please! I love all your photos.:appl:

Marcy woohoo! Another reason to celebrate! Yay for getting rid of that RV! Your cleaning lady comes so early but yes to getting that out of the way. That is always a satisfying feeling. That reminds me I have a lot of decluttering to do at the beach house. We still cannot have guests stay in our downstairs guest bedroom as we are using it for storage of which we don't have enough of at the beach house sadly. I must clean up and reorganize that guest bedroom because I know some people want to stay over and I keep putting them off. We have an upstairs guest bedroom but it doesn't have an en suite bathroom so the guests who stay there have to share Greg's bathroom and that really isn't fair to Greg. Plus the guest bedroom upstairs is close to the master bedroom so there is no privacy when guests stay in that bedroom. Definitely not a good setup IMO as we all like our privacy right?

Yes to stopping the progression of your retinal damage and more healing vibes and good thoughts to you. I am always here for you and if you decide to go to a retinal specialist I can find out if there are any specialists I would recommend in your area. Or here if you are visiting.

Enjoy your friends visit tonight and the menu sounds tasty. Have a lovely visit.

We had a wonderful bike ride yesterday. The weather was PERFECT. Cool not too sunny and oh so comfortable. True Autumn weather. Off to see my dentist friend soon and I hope everyone has a good day.

I don't think anyone reading here (besides me) is Jewish or observant of the Yom Kippur day of atonement but just in case anyone reading here is...
Have an easy fast and G'mar Hatima Tova.

Have a good day girls!:wavey:

OK just went downstairs and got my phone and sharing some photos for those of you ladies who are interested.:cool2:

First up our DaysBreak yesterday during our bike ride. Almost the end of the ice cream season at Days.:((
I had coffee (hello National Coffee day yesterday!) and moose tracks. Greg had (large) butter pecan.

daysicecreamendofseason.jpg

Next up some of my nostalgic photos from cleaning up my armoire. LOL. We didn't have a wedding photographer per se. Our friend the dentist (Hahahaha I have a lot of dentist friends I guess) was our photographer as his wedding gift to us. We didn't take video either as that isn't our thing though I know now that I have a phone I take lots of video of Bea and the kitties but well I don't like video of us in general. Bling and furbabies A OK. No video of our wedding however.

We were married by a priest and a rabbi. My veil was my something borrowed (and I didn't like it at all and would have preferred no veil or a short veil but I didn't want to insult my mom's friend who lent it to me and it cost more than the dress). I didn't plan anything about our wedding besides us choosing the venue and the rabbi and priest to marry us and I chose my dress. My mom took care of all the other details.

Our first dance

Greg's brothers and mother and one of our SIL's and our nieces and nephew. This one shows my colors of blue. I had everyone choose their own dress etc and the only ask I had was that it was blue. My sister and mother and MIL choose their own dress. As did my nieces (on Greg's side as my nieces on my sister's side were not yet born) who were my flower girls and my nephew.
weddingphotogregsfamily.jpg

After the wedding party was over and everyone had left Bob our photographer took this last pic in the empty ballroom where we had the reception. The last dip I call it.

weddingdip.jpg

And sharing a photo of my sister's wedding. I was her matron of honor (and she was my maid of honor at my wedding before) and she chose black for her wedding colors.

And finally last night of HRH Francesca sitting on her throne.

I couldn't focus on both HRH and the view so I took one of each with a different phone focus so you could share the experience with me.:halo:

And that's all folks. Enjoy a lovely Saturday.:sun:

Hello lovelies

Wow, wow, wow @rainwood your photographs are superb! They almost don't look real IYKWIM, the colours and textures are stunning.

How great to get together with @azstonie for a blingfest, it sounds like you all had fun. We neeeeeded photos :D

Arrgh @junebug17 sorry there are problems with the closing, but as you say, gives you a bit more time to get your brother and his move sorted. Hopefully your mother's house will close soon, and then you will finally be done with all the stress.

Woohoo @marcy :appl: great news on the RV, time for another bling project :mrgreen2: I'm sure you're mightily relieved it's sold.

Have a lovely evening with your friends, the menu sounds great and it'll be good to unwind and enjoy some fun company.

Hi @canuk-gal hope all is well with you.

Gamah yatimah tovah @missy (I hope that's the correct term)

I was a dental nurse for many years (not clever enough to be a dentist) and assisted at 100's of RCT's. My duties included charting, prepping all the anaesthetics, preparing all the crown, veneer and filling compounds, developing the x-rays, keeping the instruments and surgery sterile assisting the dentist, and probably most importantly, keeping the patients calm . The dentist I worked for was very ethical and would never carry out unnecessary procedures. He would never rush RCTs, and if it took several open and redress appts before completing treatment, he would wait until everything was totally settled before the final filling.

Another job completed, just sealed the travertine on the kitchen floor.

Big wave out to @Scandinavian and @PierreBear hope you're having a good weekend :wavey:

Happy October 1st girls! Here is a photo of our sky last night...last night of September 2017.

skyatbeachlastnightofsept2017.jpg

It's like a switch has been turned on and autumn is here. Chilly and crisp with beautiful colors. It's supposed to warm up into the 80s this week however so we have a bit of change coming. But for now it is crisply cool.

Hi Austina! Thank you for the happy New Year wishes. (((Hugs))).

Thank you for sharing your professional background and yes you are the dental expert here and I appreciate any of your advice for sure. I also am quite sure you would have made an excellent dentist despite your modesty but I feel a dental nurse can often be much more valuable because you really spend time with the patients and help them through. It takes a certain temperament to be able to do that well. I agree with you about finding an ethical dentist that is just as important as finding one who knows her/his stuff!

Quick question-do you have opinions about veneers? I was thinking about them at some point in the future as I am not really happy with the appearance of my teeth but I have been warned against them by my dad (but to be fair he has been retired for literally decades and doesn't keep up with dental stuff anymore) and warned against them by a few others in the field. If I ever get my tooth issues under control do you think veneers are too invasive to explore as an option to improve appearance or do you think the new materials make it much less invasive and a safer way to go nowadays?

So, I went to the dentist yesterday AM (thank you Denise!) and she is a doll. And I feel 100% ethical and trustworthy. She is a friend who had a successful dental practice in South Carolina but moved back the the shore a few years ago with her dh and boys because of her dh's work. She opened another dental practice here during the recession and to give her credit where credit is due she has made it a success during a challenging time. And that is because she is a wonderful dentist with an equally wonderful bedside manner and ease with people.

Here is the professional building where she has her practice.

dentalpracticewaldron.jpg

We got there half an hour before our scheduled time since we weren't sure how long it would take us. It was deserted in the parking lot as it was Saturday AM and no one was in the professional building. We stayed in the car for 10 minutes and then went in and she left her office open! Found out later that was a mistake but we went in and made ourselves comfortable while we waited. Quick selfie when we sat down. Keep in mind we were both fasting due to it being Yom Kippur so we were not at our best. Very tired and hungry too!

missyandgregatdentist.jpg

Long story short (haha as short as I can make it) I cracked the tooth and filling just like I thought but unbeknownst to me the tooth next to it (another triple filling tooth) has 3 cracks in that filling as well. Ugh. My last dental appointment with my regular dentist was the end of April of this year and there were no cracks but he did warn me about that middle tooth with the huge deep triple filling.

So yesterday my dentist friend spent 2 and a half hours on her day off drilling out the first cracked filling and tooth and replacing the filling of the tooth I came in to see her about. The tooth next to it with the filling that has 3 cracks (the one I wasn't aware was cracked) has to wait and that one definitely needs a crown. The one she refilled probably needs a crown at some point as sadly as the tooth (I think that is what she showed me) has a stress fracture but this will do for now. So what a mess my teeth are.

And it took an extra set of anesthesia for me to start getting numb. I needed double the dose. Leave it to me to need so many needles. I seriously feel like it was 30 minutes of her administering anesthesia to me through injections.

I am calling her office Monday AM to see if she has any 2 hour slots available to start on the tooth that needs a crown. I don't want to let decay in to the root and make it a root canal case. She doesn't do root canals or tooth extraction anymore as she said it is best to leave those to the professionals (endodontist and oral surgeon) who do those procedures all the time. And I quite agree. My dad (retired dentist) had the same philosophy.

That's my update from the dentist. We got home and I worked out (too windy and cold to ride) and then we went out driving and I feel very confident behind the wheel as long as I know where I am going. Greg said I am a good driver but (haha of course there is a but!) I have to drive more defensively. He feels I need to allow myself more time to react and anticipate problems especially at intersections and that I might be going too fast during those times. Hahaha yes I LOVE speed. See Marcy? You are not alone.:cheeky: So I guess I have to be more cautious but generally I feel confident behind the wheel. MY weak point is defending against other drivers who may be dangerous so I will keep that in mind and be more defensive a driver. My other problem is my mind wanders as I drive and I have to work on focusing. LOL that doesn't sound great I know but I swear Greg said I am driving very well.

It's another cool windy day but we are heading out cycling soon. I hope everyone enjoys this Sunday October 1st and has a wonderful time whatever you are doing. (((Hugs))).:wavey:

Hello lovelies

I think we're getting similar weather @missy it's very grey and and miserable here. I love seeing photos of your outlook and of course, you and Greg. The wedding and family photos are lovely.

I'm so glad you got your appt yesterday, and also that your dentist is on the same wavelength as you re: RCTs. My dentist would refer difficult RCTs to a specialist, but he did do surgical extractions, and it was a good job I wasn't squeamish! Crowning heavily filled teeth will certainly protect them.

With regard to veneers, yes, there can be potential problems, and my dentist wouldn't do them purely for cosmetic reasons because he didn't want to drill away healthy tooth. Oddly enough, I did see something the other day about a new generation of veneers, which may be worth exploring. Here's the link, so perhaps you can discuss it with your dentist and get an opinion. There's a little video which shows the procedure.

https://uveneer.com/

They're not available in the UK yet, but it's certainly something Colin would be interested in. He had measles as a child which caused damage to his teeth.

Not much to report, other than I'm still working on things in preparation for the holiday. Bed linen is in the washer, with the next load ready to go in - oh the excitement

Hope you had a lovely evening with your friends @marcy

Good luck with the race @PierreBear

Big wave out to all the other NIRDIs:wavey:

Hi all!

Missy, sorry about all the tooth issues, it's great your friend was able to see you and hopefully you are good for now - it's too bad you need a crown and I hope you can get that taken care of soon. Dental issues are such a headache.

Looks like lovely weather for a ride - yes, fall has made an appearance very quickly lol - confession time, we put the heat on yesterday. Dh and I were freezing ha. It's going to be a long winter :cry2:

LOVE the pics you shared with us! So fun to see pics of the past, I really enjoyed seeing you and your sister's weddings. You, your mother, and your sister are beauties, both back in the day and now! Your mother is stunning. I think it was SO sweet of you to wear the veil even though it's not something you would have chosen yourself. I dunno, I just think it's nice to consider someone else's feelings once in a while, and I'll bet it meant so much to your mother and her friend that you wore it. And it looks absolutely beautiful too! Great pic of you and Greg, and of course Francesca looks as sweet as can be. Thanks so much for sharing part of your life with us.

Austina, good luck with your trip preparations! Yes, there's a certain amount of drudgery before a trip, but then when you leave you are all done and it's nothing but fun and relaxation from that point! You must be so excited.

Marcy, fantastic news about the RV, so glad it's sold! What a relief. Your dinner sounds delicious, have a great time getting together with your friends. Thank you for all your good wishes, I truly appreciate them and they are helping me plug through.

Tomorrow is the closing for the condo - it's over an hour away so I have to make sure I leave early so that I have enough time to find the place - then to my meet my brother to give him the key - it's going to be a long day, will be relieved when it's over!

Hope everyone has a good night, take care all!

Hi NIRDIs!

Missy, I am glad you got your tooth fixed; darn the dentist has to fix another tooth for you that will probably need a crown. That is good she found the cracks so you can stop it before you need a root canal. Her office building looks quite nice. It’s nice when the guest rooms are in a different part of the house. I hate putting guests in our back bedroom because I don’t have any open drawers for them and although the closest has room to hang up things, I have lots of stuff shoved in the closet so it looks bad. Our other guest room has some open drawers and closet space so I usually stick people in that room plus it’s a larger room. I started cleaning out last night; the table cloth I got out for supper last night was snagged pretty bad so I threw it out. I shake the table cloth off on our deck and it keeps snagging on the rail. One less tablecloth is a beginning. I totally get what you are saying about looking at this process with my eye as preventative care. That does make a lot of sense to me. Thanks. I will certainly consult you for recommendations on a retinal specialist if I decide to see someone else. That’s awesome you had such lovely weather for a bike ride yesterday. Your ice cream looks fabulous. I love all of your wedding photos and family pictures. Yay for joining me in the need for speed. Sounds like you are feeling more comfortable driving. Like Greg tells you; Marty tells me to drive defensively all the time. One thing he taught me that I didn’t do before I met him was to make sure that other drive sees you. I let my mind wander too which isn’t a good idea. I definitely don’t text or look at my phone.

Austina, I am sure as a dental nurse you know a great deal about dental issues and care. I am sure my dentist has a note in my chart - don’t give her penicillin. He gave it to me one time for a tooth infection before I had a root canal. I can’t say it helped my tooth but wow did it clear up my sinuses. I am always teasing him - you don’t see anything I need penicillin for in there? Yay for another project completed. I am right there with you on the excitement of doing our chores. Marty had some French Onion soup at lunch today; it didn't look as good as your soup looks.

Junebug, fall has definitely knocked on our doors. We’ve had the heater on most of the time for a few weeks. I’ve got on my sweatshirt right now and thinking of looking for a blanket. There is some of that 4 letter white stuff predicted in the mountains around here today and tomorrow. Good luck tomorrow with the closing on the condo. That will be a relief to get your brother moved in to his new place. Safe travels and I’ll be thinking of you.

Seems like my washer and dryer have been going all weekend. Just whenI thought I was done this morning Marty dug out his workout stuff so I have that in the dryer now.

We had a nice time at dinner last night. The T-Bones were fabulous. My friend and I ate the filet side and saved the NY strip side for later. The guys of course ate all of their T-Bones. All of us ate more of those scalloped potatoes than we should but they are so good. It’s a Martha Stewart recipe. My friend’s husband doesn’t drink wine (he’s a beer guy) but 3 of us finished 3 bottles of Freak Show. I only had 2 glasses so Marty and my friend took care of the rest. We played hearts and cribbage and sadly I lost at both games.

This morning we headed south to meet my sister and her family for an early Sunday dinner. It was fun. We drove home in 40 mph plus winds and rain which is probably why I am cold now. Marty has to pack soon and get to bed early. He is leaving for the airport at 4 am tomorrow morning. It doesn’t look like the roads will be bad tomorrow since the snow is expected to fall more in the mountains than at lower elevations.

My BIL and nephew brought us some of their produce from their gardens. I think supper is going to be an ear of corn and some cherry tomatoes.

Take care.
Marcy

Good morning girls.

Austina thank you for that link. I will check it out. I know in my heart it isn't the right move for me. Not as you say for cosmetic purposes only. I need to focus on getting my teeth taken care of health wise and appearance wise isn't important enough to remove healthy tooth. Thanks for the common sense nudge. Every now and then I start wanting whiter prettier teeth but then of course I come to my senses. I am not one to do unnecessary invasive procedures solely for appearance sake.

I am sorry Colin has tooth damage stemming from his measles and I hope he can find something safe and effective to help him.

Thank you for your lovely compliments re the photos I am always sharing with you lovely ladies.
Ooh exciting your trip is coming up tomorrow right? Good luck with your travels and have a terrific family vacation!

Junie, good luck today with the condo closing and your drive. Sending you buckets of good luck vibes and dust and thoughts. Thank you for your lovely comments and for understanding why I wore my mother's friends veil. It made them happy and it was a small thing I could do. And I only wore it for the ceremony so not a big deal. OK I am sure you are nervous about today and know all of us here are sending so much PS ***DUST*** your way for a smooth closing and smooth day.

Marcy, yes we are similar in many ways. I never look at my phone/text etc when I am driving but my mind wanders anyway. I can be looking at the road and I am somewhere else. And it reminds me that I cannot trust others while I am a pedestrian or a motorist or a cyclist because if my mind is wandering as I am staring straight at the road so could their minds be wandering so yes be ever vigilant and defensive no matter what role you are in at the time. That is cyclist, motorist, or pedestrian. It's a good reminder. Thank you for enjoying all the many photos I share.

I am glad you enjoyed a nice visit with your friends the other night (sorry you lost your heart and cribbage games) and with sister and her family at an early Sunday dinner last night. I love fresh corn. Yummm. Sorry you had to drive in such a bad rain storm last night and yes that is probably why you are chilled. That always happens to me to. Glad you made it back safely. Oh no to Marty leaving again for another business trip and so early in the AM. Wishing him safe travels. I am glad there won't be snow on the ground at least when he is driving to the airport. Now you can give your washer and dryer a rest while Marty and his workout clothes are away. :cheeky:

PierreBear
hope your event this weekend went very well. And I hope you enjoyed a relaxing evening and some delicious food as a reward. We cannot wait to hear all about it. And I hope the window leak situation is under control.

We had a wonderful weekend ending with a nice long cycling ride Sunday. The weather was incredible yesterday. Cycling by the ocean was just a perfect way to spend our Sunday.

I always forget to share with you ladies that every time we go out inevitably people ask to take a photo or video of us on the bike. And LOL most of the time they just do it as we are riding and don't get to ask. You would think I would mind (especially having video taken of us) but for some reason it is OK with me.

Yesterday late afternoon we had to stop at The Peddler (a bike shop in Long Branch) as I needed more chamois cream (of course they didn't stock the women's version grrrr). Greg went in while I stayed with the bike and one of the cycling owners came out with another customer about something else and he stopped in his tracks and said he has seen us riding around and he and his friend love our bike and could he take our photos. Hahaha at least he asked. So just a little funny commentary on people and how excited even the bicycling veterans are when they see our bike or should I say more accurately trike. LOL. By the way I cannot remember if I shared the name of our trike. We call the trike Terrari.

So more of the same today hopefully. Going out cycling. It's getting warmer each day this week so hoping it won't get too warm as this cool weather is not too cool and not too warm and just right for the Goldilocks I am with the weather. I am going to enjoy it while I can. And hoping (fingers crossed) I can get a double appointment times two to take care of my triple cracked filling and get a crown. But it might not happen till later in November though I really want to get this taken care of as soon as possible. So it all depends on the dentist's schedule. I would like to see Denise for this if possible but I guess if I cannot see her in a timely fashion my dentist in NYC is excellent as well. But I would love to start going to her as my regular dentist and hope the cracked filling can wait till she can see me without becoming a nerve problem needing a root canal. Fingers crossed.

Speaking of dentist and teeth haha here is our October Daybreak yesterday. Greg had one of their best flavors (IMO) salted pretzel caramel. Yummmm.

daysoctober2017.jpg

Have a great day girls and please be safe and sending big hugs to each and everyone of you and lots of love.

HI:

I am off to work....in the snow! lol But it is supposed to be 21 degrees mid week. LOL Such is our weather.

cheers--Sharon

Hi Friends! Wow, so much has happened this past weekend for everyone and glad to hear that things are going well. We actually didn't do the Escape room with our friends. They had a family emergency and the husband went to Cali to assist his brother. I invited the wife and her little boy over for a meal since she might want some company. She wasn't able to make it and mentioned later on that it's hard for a toddler to sit during dinner. Dummy me... but can I ask ya'll for advice as I don't have experience with kids? Is it always better to bring a meal over to the family with kids so they can be in their environment with their toys etc? If they are in the infant age, they can sleep in the carrier and you can host at your place? But if the kids are able to start walking, it's better to allow them to host? Still trying to figure out how to stay connected with friends who are in a different life stage.

Other than that, we planted another tree this weekend called the palo verde. Found one off the internet to show you. It's a native Texas tree and has a green bark and in the spring time there are yellow blooms. With hurricane Harvey, there was too much rain and we tried to transplant him since he was topping over from the winds. Don't know if that original palo verde survived as the branches are turning brown but we trimmed off what we could and are hoping for him to ressurect himself this upcoming spring. In the mean time though, we planted the new tree beside him. So far so good... but need to remember that these trees are in the "succulent/cactus" family and don't like a lot of rain. We also have other fruit trees so I just need to be careful what to water and what not to water.

We did complete our 100 mile bike ride this weekend. Someone wanted to join in for part of the ride so we tried to meet up with him and DH told me to keep on cruising (since I'm slower) while he was texting to confirm our ETA at the meeting spot. We got separated and eventually had to borrow someone's phone at the gas station. We learned afterwards that we were probably waiting for each other just a few yards from each other but just couldn't see one another. So silly! I'm really thankful to have finished the ride and then did a 2 mile run just to see how my legs would feel. It was a painful 7 hour day but I'm feeling mentally ready for the big race in November. I'm as trained up as I can be without overdoing it and risk injury. I am treating myself to a sport massage 2 weeks before the race. Friend suggested getting all that build up in my muscles worked out. I told her... great idea!! It feels like quite a splurge. : )

@junebug17 – Wow that is a lot of driving around but it sounds like there is light at the end of the tunnel soon. Good luck and can you only imagine how much free time there will be once life is back to the norm without the closings? Hang in there!

@Austina – I could live on soup as well! Good idea on broiling the cheese in the oven. Quick way to do it! I forget that I even have a little torch that I use for cream brulees. Fancy kitchen tool that I got for Christmas one time. hahaha.. the oven is much easier!

Good job sealing the kitchen floors! I had them cleaned awhile back but it’s slowly graying out. I can easily tell the areas that are more heavily trafficked. Bothers the heck out of me!

@rainwood – Pies and tarts are actually a separate class that I hope to take one day. So far my schedule hasn’t aligned to be able to take it yet. It’s on my list and I haven’t made a pie by myself before. It’s intimidating to me so I’ll wait until a class format. Once I learn some tips about the crust, I’ll share it with you! From what I can imagine though, if you want that flaky crust, the butter needs to be cold so I believe you have to refrigerate the crust if it’s handled too much and try not to over mix. I am guessing you follow this “biscuit method” that we learned in our basics course but I’m not too sure. How fun that your family has a specialty dessert!

Yout trip looks amazing. We visited Antelope Canyon earlier this year and just went to the Lower region. We haven’t been to Grand Canyon yet but it’s on our list to do a rim to rim trail run one day perhaps. Glad you had so much fun and even got to meet up with other PSers!

@marcy – Wooo hooo congrats on selling the RV! Celebration time! hahaha… how large are Marty sized T-bones? Also, I’ve never made or tasted white asparagus before. Yum. Do they taste like the normal green kinds? Ya’ll are great hostess!

@missy – Thanks for sharing the beautiful wedding photos! Ahhh the first dance photo is so lovely. You are so beautiful and look so happy! How did you and Greg meet again? Sorry if I missed the story. I love sappy “how do you meet” and “how did you get engaged” stories.

@canuk-gal – Safe travels driving through the snow! When it snows in Texas, we essentially have a “ice day” since no one knows how to drive in it.

Hello girls!

Our weekend was boring, just packing up a lot of stuff from the house, mainly kitchen things – everything from glasses to the actual kitchen cupboards, LOL.

Missy, so wonderful to see pictures of you and Greg! Have do have to say though, that you look even lovelier in person! That view from your beach house is just TDF!! I love the sea too, but don’t get to see it every day. But then again, I would likely die without the forest and the mountains, LOL. Could you ever imagine living in a bunker for years and years? (I got hooked on The 100…) Missy, you seriously do not need veneers. I’m sure Greg is with me on this one! So glad your friend could help you, no fun with such tooth stuff. Oh and please listen to Greg and be careful driving!! The power of a car smashing into anything – a car, brick wall, ditch etc – is so scary, trust me! So please be careful, I like you in one piece ;) Wedding photos: Only one I have seen that do you justice! You look so so beautiful in that picture! And I also love the one of your sister. Want to meet her, she looks so much like you. Hope cycling was good today!

Austina, good thing you are not an actual dentist. I usually bite mine… (He said I could if it hurt. And it hurts. So there we go…)

June, don’t feel bad, we put the heat on weeks and weeks ago.. :) Have you closed on the condo now? Hope so! Can’t wait for the good news!

Marcy, yuuuhu for selling the RV! Such great news! Your RV, Missy’s fridge and our building process were starting to look too much alike.. I have missed something – you are getting stay-over guests, and I don’t know who… LOL please tell overly curious me :) Any snow? We have snow in the mountains now, but not at home yet. Dinner sounds wonderfully delicious. Could I please have a hit re the potatoes and how you make them?

Pierrebear, re children. Just ask their parents, people are all different in my experience. And children are little people (or so mine keep telling me..) and so they vary too! Mostly, children are not good at sitting still when they are finished eating. But they need to practice that like everything else, and practicing at a friend’s house is so much better than at a restaurant, LOL. But some children might be a little more “outgoing” than others, making like a little unpredictable for the parents. So just ask: “Would you like to come visit, or would it more practical for you if I bring something over to your place?” And perhaps to say that “please bring the kids, I really want to get to know them!”. (I.e. just lie… LOL)

Rainwood, your pictures are pure magic!

Jaaron, hope everything is OK, missy you!

Callie, and that goes very much for you too honey! Perhaps I would be able to say hello to you the next time I visit NYC ;)

Hugs!

Oh yes. And: We are throwing a big "Roaring 20s" Christmas party and I really want a perfect dress so I want to start looking for it now :oops2: Any ideas? Please hjelp:geek2: :kiss2::kiss2:

Perhaps something golden or black with lots of bling and beads? Either short or long - midi does my legs no favours... and a little sexy please....

Hello lovelies

I hope the day has gone well @junebug17 and the closing is complete and your brother has the keys to his new home. I hope he'll be very happy there for many years to come.

Do you have a new date for the closing on your mother's house yet?

I'm glad you had such a lovely evening with your friends @marcy, the food sounds delicious. I do like steak, unfortunately it doesn't particularly like me and I can only eat a little of it.

Sounds like a fun weekend altogether, meeting up with your sister and family for Sunday lunch. The winds sound brutal, no wonder you've been feeling cold. We've had the heating on in the evenings for a while now, it's very autumnal here.

Take care in the snow @canuk-gal, fortunately for us, we hardly get snow here.

Well done on completing your 100 mile race this weekend @PierreBear , I hope you're not saddle sore

I agree with Scandi, children have to learn how to behave at the table, there's nothing worse than unruly children in restaurants running between tables and disrupting others. Just ask your friends what's easier in terms of the children. Personally, we enjoyed going to friends for meals without DS, and vice versa, but then maybe I'm just a bad mummy

I found a UK website that has lots of 'flapper' outfits @Scandinavian It might give you a few ideas for your party

I well remember having to pack up the kitchen when we had it completely remodelled, we had boxes everywhere, and had the fridge and microwave in the dining room.

Honestly @missy you have a beautiful smile and once you have veneers, they can't be undone, so if there's no actual need, I would leave well enough alone, but I think you know that (sorry if I sound preachy :???:) Hopefully you'll get your appts quickly for the crowns and then won't need any more major dental treatment.

I can well believe you and Greg cause quite a stir out on your Terrari, I don't think I've ever seen one on the roads here. :D I hope you're enjoying good weather at the beach house.

Busy day here, the washer and dryer have been on all day. Still cleaning too.

Woke to the awful news in LV, I just can't understand people having, or indeed, being able to get hold of that kind of weaponry. What on earth would possess someone to do that kind of thing? It really makes me despair.

Another busy day tomorrow, so I'll wish you all a good day :wavey:

Hi NIRDIs!

Missy, I think it’s wonderful you wore your mother’s friend’s veil during your wedding. It’s those little things that will always be special and mean a lot. I agree, I think we have many things in common. We also have pretty jewelry on our fingers that can distract us when we are driving. The fresh corn was really good. Tonight I had one of my BIL’s tomatoes with supper. It was quite tasty. I did start snowing this morning but it was well after Marty made it to the airport. There is about 3” of snow on the grass and patio. They are big, pretty snow flakes. That is really cool people want to take pictures of you and Greg on your bike. People are drawn to positive people and things. I am glad you are having nice weather and getting in some nice rides. Of course the ice cream looks delicious. I like Greg’s band. Marty’s new band isn’t fitting him right now so I dug out his last wedding band to wear. He is eating a lot to build muscles so clothes and rings aren’t fitting right now.

Sharon, that pesky white stuff is all over the place here too. I had Marty go shut off our drip system for the flower pots last night since all of that is above ground. He did shut off the sprinkler system too. Last thing I want is problems with a pipe breaking while Marty is out of town. How is your knee doing?

PierreBear, I think it’s easier for people with little ones to have you come over to their place. I am sure they appreciate you bringing dinner as well. I think our friends with really young ones are worried about the kids making a mess at our house. I like the tree you planted. Congratulations on completing your 100 mile bike ride this weekend. What an accomplishment. I think the sports massage is a great idea. The T-Bones were all about 1.5 pounds. I want another one; that filet side was delicious. Marty ate my leftover strip side last night. The RV dealer has not called me yet so I’m not counting my chickens just yet. I assume they want their money. Maybe that phantom person who told them we weren’t going to sell our RV anymore paid my bill for me. I can dream, right? I didn’t try the white asparagus but everyone said it was good.

Scandi, packing the kitchen sounds like a lot of work. I remember it all too well. It’s a good thing we all keep busy. Right now the only upcoming company we’ll have is my in-laws in June. I was just commenting my 2nd guest bedroom is my collect all for stuff and I really need to clean it out. But that sounds like WORK! I keep hoping I can go sign the papers on the RV (not looking forward to paying the difference we owe though) and get that off my plate. Below is the link to the recipe for the scalloped potatoes. They are quite tasty. Yes, we have that white stuff all over the ground. The snow is really wet so the snow flakes are big. Very pretty. What a great theme for a Christmas party. I immediately thought of a sparkly headband and a long strand of pearls tied in a know.

Austina, I am sorry you can’t eat steak without having issues. I am glad I can eat beef; that’s about the only thing I can eat these days. I have been running the heat quite a bit too. I bumped it up one degree when I got home tonight. I wasn’t ready for this cold of weather. I feel your pain on running the washer and dryer all day. I often try to do a batch or two during the week so it’s not so much to do on the weekend. But with Marty traveling I just get big clumps of laundry. Yes what happened in Vegas is awful.

Marty got to the airport bright and early. I didn’t even hear him get up and leave. I felt kind of bad because I usually wake up enough to say “bye honey” then I go back to sleep.

It’s been raining and snowing most of the day. I think there is about 3” of snow out there now. I haven’t looked for a few hours though. I was glad I decided to get gas on my way to work this morning since it was snowing when I was coming home. Good call!

Take care.
Marcy

Good morning girls!

Junie how did it go? Thinking of you all day yesterday and hope the closing went smoothly honey. Has the other closing been rescheduled yet? Sending more good thoughts your way.

Sharon wow on snow and 21 degree weather. Brrrrr. Stay warm and comfy.

Scandi aww that is such a lovely thing to say and right back at ya. (((Hugs))).

Re your roaring 20s christmas party what fun! Visit all the vintage clothing shops you can and I bet you will find a perfect roaring 20s dress. I found many of my dresses for parties at high end vintage clothing shops and was always wearing something unique compared to the other women. Remember my leopard dress from the 70s? A vintage find that was never worn before. You can get some treasures at good vintage shops.

Austina thank you for your smile compliment. My teeth are not great but at least I have teeth seriously so I am not complaining. Here wherever you look white teeth are advertised and well I am glad I am not 20 or even 30 anymore. At this stage I am thankful my teeth work and are relatively healthy and count my blessings.

Honestly if the veneers weren't invasive I don't think I could consider it anyway as the cost is crazy. I think my NYC dentist quoted me about 15-20K but I could be completely wrong about that. I would rather have bling. In any case I will take that off the table. Just want to do what is necessary for the health of my teeth and such. I couldn't get an appointment before October 11th and that puts me into November for the crown because the office told me it takes at least 2 weeks to get the crown made so oh well. I guess I have to hope for the best and hope the cracked filling doesn't compromise my nerve till I get it replaced with a temporary October 11th. Fingers crossed.

We are so far enjoying perfect weather at the beach and lovely days bike riding. Thanks for asking and we are mainly just enjoying spending our time with each other with minimum work interruptions for Greg. Ahhh lovely.

Hope your day yesterday washing and cleaning and doing all the laundry went smoothly and that today is busy good. Safe travels!

PierreBear yay to completing your 100 mile bike ride with your dh and lol to getting separated. You need a tandem girlfriend as you will never fall behind or get separated again. That's one of the reasons we got one. Greg is much stronger on the bicycle than I am and this way we stay together. Remember:

If you want to stick together while cycling that is...:halo:

As for the meeting story I won't bore the others as I have shared it before and I even think there is a thread about how we met our SOs...let me see if I can find it. Yup here it is. Enjoy.

Hmm as for your friends and their child you did nothing wrong and are always very warm and gracious and inviting. That is what matters. We used to go over to our parents friends houses often but we were well behaved children. So it really depends on the parents. How disciplined they are in teaching their children manners and how young the children are. We were never those badly behaved kids throwing a tantrum in the restaurant but well I am sure we all know those permissive parents who don't teach their kids proper manners. I would leave it to the parents to decide what is best for their children and don't take it personally. Your heart is in the right place.

Marcy love that cake. And thank you for the scalloped potato recipe. Glad Marty arrived safely and that the snow waited for him to leave. Drive safely. Nice that Marty is building muscle. I need to do that! Greg and I were just talking about how I really need to start weight training as I sort of stopped after I broke my leg and that was over 3 years ago. So yes I need help and asked Greg for some assistance. Now I just need the willpower to start with free weights again. I loathe weight training and love cardio but must start weight training again for my health. Wish I could just be naturally strong LOL. Wouldn't that be lovely.

Thanks for the compliment on Greg's band. He has a few bands being the style guy that he is. The one he wore in that photo is just silver and he wears it cycling generally. I don't wear any rings or bling when cycling but then again most of my jewels are platinum or gold.

Glad you got gas on your way home yesterday and hope the snow is gone today. Stay safe and warm and comfy cozy Marcy.

Our Monday Ice Cream photo. Days is closed (till Friday and then that is their last weekend till Summer 2018 sadly) but we found a "new" place that our friends L and J recommended to us called Waffles and Ice Cream. Here is the Ice Cream photo from yesterday at Waffles and Ice Cream. When I get my triple filling tooth crowned I will try their waffles with ice cream speciality but till then it will be cups of ice cream.

And there is a ride for the animals October 21st here but sadly I don't think we will be able to make it...

And finally leaving you with a photo from our picture perfect day yesterday. FYI you are ALL invited to visit us. Just saying.:halo::appl:
