Now I really did it :((

GM girls!

@marcy I hope your firmer mattress does the trick too and allows for better and longer sleeping. I slept OK last night but am such a light sleeper that when Greg got out of bed this AM at 4:45AM I woke immediately and that was it. LOL. He is super quiet but I am a super light sleeper. Anyway that is OK because I have an "emergency" gyn appointment this AM. OMG I am nervous. Please keep good thoughts for me....I keep thinking I am going to back out of today's appointment and it is with my gyn's NP so I am not sure she is up for a challenge but fingers crossed I go through with the appointment and that the NP is skilled enough to help. Not going into detail haha on purpose. :oops2:

CJ is doing well and I will let her know you asked about her. @junebug17 I did tell CJ you sent your love and hugs and would love her to come back and say hey. Relaying all messages.

How exciting Marty's iPad got delivered early. The 12" is new so there would have been a 2 week delivery wait so Greg decided he will pick it up personally for me though I did tell him no rush. My old iPad just doesn't hold a charge for very long. Planned obsolescence for sure lol. And Greg has to change my iPhone battery and hopefully that will delay me needing a new iphone.

I am glad you are pleased with your sapphire pendant. Sounds very pretty and since the window is minimal and the color beautiful and I am assuming the price good it's a keeper. Cannot wait to see you enjoying and wearing it.

Hi to @Sandeek, Hope you are feeling well.

@Tekate hope you were able to get some sleep last night and are not in too much discomfort. (((Hugs))).

Hope Colin is feeling better this AM and recovering nicely from the procedure @Austina.

Safe travels @junebug17.

Hi @AV_ please feel free to chime in...nice to "see" you here.

Hi to everyone else. :wavey:

Have a lovely day girls!

Hello lovelies

So sorry about your shoulder @Tekate, but if it’s any consolation, our friend in Phoenix had a complete shoulder replacement, and everything went well and he’s in good shape now. I certainly understand your reluctance to undergo surgery, it’s not something anyone would look forward to, plus of course, the added complication of your persistent infection. Sending love & good thoughts that you can manage the pain.

Have fun in SC @junebug17, it’s nice to get away for a few days. Thanks for your good wishes for Colin.

Argh @PierreBear sounds like you’re going round in circles over the leak. Let’s hope you can find out what’s causing the problem and get it fixed quickly. It’s colder there than here at the moment, we’re enjoying some really lovely bright mild weather here. Loki g forward to photos of your latest culinary creations

Wow @Jimmianne Mildred is really going to be a standout piece in her new setting. Will you go for y/g this time? Your mother’s ring is lovely, looking forward to seeing photos of your other pieces.

Will you keep the pendant @marcy? It looks such a pretty colour and I do like the setting. Would it be worth seeing if they have another if the window bothers you? Glad to hear your new mattress is coming soon, hopefully you’ll sleep better. I hope you’re keeping warm, has the snow settled in for the winter now?

I’m glad the Dr has recommended the supplements for Greg @missy, that’s what I take. I don’t have any cartilage in my right knee, and a couple of years ago, my knee started clacking alarmingly when I went upstairs. Since taking the glucosamine & chondroitin, my knee has been fine, so hopefully it’ll help him too.

Good luck at the gyn, if you need to go, please don’t put it off. It’s never pleasant, but better to get it over with and be sure all is well.

Please say hi to CJ from me too.

Once again, thank you all for your good wishes, Colin is feeling a little bruised and has a swollen eye this morning, but he’s ok. We’ve taken Dottie out, and he’s going to rest for the remainder of the day.

The assessor came this morning and said he couldn’t understand why the insurance company sent him, because it’s specialist work, and not something they can do. He said he’d call the person dealing with our case and recommend they pay up. Please keep your fingers crossed we’re nearing the finish line with this mess.

Have a lovely day all you lovely ladies :wavey:

I never know whether to say hi girls, hi ladies or hi guys! I guess HI NIRDIs is best lol

Emptying out the linen closet this afternoon....about 10 tiny baby mice came tumbling out. I think it is time for an exterminator. Philosophically i cannot kill anything after having run an animal facility in a cancer research hospital, but my young friend said it is better to have a professional now than wait and have even more mice to get rid of later. So I am saving lives by calling the exterminator now...and she mentioned the possibility of mice in the walls. Yikes I never thought of the WALLS. She said her friends did a remodel and found a nest about 8 feet long and four feet high inside a wall.
Siince I started going to france, the mice have gotten the run of the house. I have a nice house (or did) but can no longer keep anything in the lower kitchen cupboards or in the front hall closet. The mice were living in my coat pockets! So i cried on the phone when I made the appointment, but I think the only other option would be to give the house to the mice and move.
If this all sounds like a horror movie, please remember that I live in the middle of a wild field which is home to many many MANY mice, who seem to be slowly discovering that it is warmer inside Jimmianne’s house.
Ugh.thank you for listening. The baby mice are now in a little cage full of soft cotton, with dinner, and the have-a-heart trap is set next to it for momma. hopefully I will catch her and move them all to the barn tomorrow.

On a happier, note, DD’s earrings and necklace from my Mom

@junebug17 have fun in SC.. here in Maine it never got over 27 today (that is Fahrenheit). June thank you for your thoughtful words on my hesitation to wear Gen's ring.. just can't do it.. thank you! I appreciate your taking the time to think about my sadness.. :)

@missy Bubbalah is soooo beautiful! anywhere you take a pix of this beautiful diamond it just glows, fireball.. I can so see why it called to you. Altho I love @Austina's Belle.. I mean you can't go wrong with either of those stones.. I mean I would love a 2 carat! stone :) everyone's jewelry is beautiful.. the best part? the fireballs! the color, the shine.. little or huge and in between a GOOD cut stone shines... Aw Missy a gyn appt? how did it go? I just use my family practioner (I mean if I have an egg left I'd be surprised!!! ;-) ) thinking of you dear lovely Missy.. xoxoxo...

@marcy I am glad you are enjoying your sapphire more Marcy, it's beautiful... Thank you re: my MRI, it was a breeze, I don't have a problem with tight spaces where I can barely breathe and panic ;-) did you find your missing diamond? A mattess makes a LOT of difference Marcy.. at least for me.. I like a mattess that sort of molds to my body.. and I always have my head somewhat elevated as I snore sometimes.. (eeek!) I hate to say this but is everyone getting new Ipads because of a new release? We are a NON NEVER EVER EVER ETC Apple family, my husband worked for IBM then Intel and he dislikes Apple - although one of his old bosses at Intel a GREAT manager, one of the best ever manager's I have ever had the luck to encounter.. this guy is an Israeli and he started at Intel, then IBM then back to Intel then to Apple.. He's a senior vice president and reports to Cook, I told him (Johny Srouji is his name) almost 20 years ago that one day he would lead a company, this man had every attribute of a GREAT leader, so h would send us an Ipad we'd take it! I should email him.. hmmm.. John liked him and also liked working for him, Johny is the only person I have ever met who listened to everyone. So we are not tablet users at all, maybe cause we are older than dirt, but I just never got into the habit of using one.. I love my T&L Asus laptop, my husband uses Chromebooks, I'm not ready to give up windows.. When John retired from Intel they gave him a Samsung tablet and we always take that when we travel, we play crosswords together on it! We only bring one labtop when we travel, John's chromebook..

@Jimmianne aw thanks for your kind words Jimmianne, your new ring will def be a right hand one, I would love a nice right had ring myself.. I bought a stacker ring from David Klass at MrsB's party, I gave him my card etc, never heard from him, sent an email last week, they said it's ready to go just needed an address, gave them my address again and zilch, nada, nothing.. it was a cute stacker, but I don't really need it and if they are so busy then I will wait.. I understand it was crazy at MrsB's and people were buying MUCH more expensive stuff than my stacker.. Jimmianne I don't need surgery yet according to my doctor, she called me and said monday I am to have an ultrasound guided steroid shot so she can get in between the bone and alleviate some of the pain, problem is the pain comes back.. my tear is a tear but it's NOT a complete tear and we are going to try and strengthen my muscles in my shoulder so I will be back at P/T.. which really didn't help my shoulder much but boy my neck felt GREAT! :) ooooh Jimmie! your snake ring is sooo cool and your wedding rings are wonderful it is a great stacker there girl! love them.. Stew eh? I LOVE stew, I love food, we are having BLT tacos tonight, it's a NYTimes recipe, Melissa Clark's recipe. Today I made 2lbs of meatballs and they came out terrible.. too soft so I am going to get more meat tomorrow, and freeze the soft meatballs and keep them for John and I! I'm thinking that with 7 people over 3 days 2lbs of meatballs will go so it's not really a mistake.. I should have made 1lb and then 1lb.. oh well live and learn! Your right hand ring.. do you want the diamond inset or prongs or bezeled? I think I like the stone to be inset, but it's your ring girl! ;-) I really think bezel or semi bezel too.. it's going to be GREAT to watch this ring happen Jimmie.

@Austina glad Colin is doing okay. Hoping the gate saga will finally be resolved soon... such a pain in the derriere. :(

@PierreBear leaks, sometimes I think they are ALIVE! they travel, I mean seriously you can have a leak but it's coming from 2 rooms away.. it's a real pain I know.. and BREAD.. the staff of life my husband says and I think maybe the bible says it too! pictures !!!

So my shoulder isn't as bad as I thought but then again I had told my dr that I didnt want surgery, I'm thrlled to do the shot Monday but it will hurt I know.. but going to Budapest etc I will need that arm so it's the best solution for now.. not sure how long I can avoid the replacement, but it's a weighing game.. my age is one thing, pain is another, recovery all has to be weighed with the outcome.. I do know one thing, my other shoulder is going. oh well, when the good Goddess said to my embryonic self 'Catherine do you wish for little or no arthritis' that for some reason I said "A LOT" oh well I'm here which is a good thing.

Going down to Boston tomorrow to go to Costco, gonna snow here in southern Maine Thursday 3-5 inches then by next week back up in the 40s and rain :) looking forward to my family coming, I will try to post a pix or 2 or at least on IG.. I have trouble going from my phone to my laptop.. again. AGE.

Hope everyone is safe, warm and happy.. all my best to you all.

Kate

@Jimmianne hmm I once had a family of mice living in my Honda Prelude back in the 80s.. A/C wouldn't work, I was dating John then and staying at his house more than at my apt in Poughkeepse.. so John had a really nice small modern home out in the words near Millbrook, NY and my A/c stopped working in my car and started blowing leaves! so there were 12 baby mice and a mamma mouse that they saved! cost me 500.00$ to get my car fixed :)

One time we had bats in the attic at our house in Raleigh.. we had to call the exterminator, I too am like you I would rather not kill anything but they kill bats, I felt bad but they were infested in the attic. bummer.

You have to do what you have to do to get the house liveable... In Austin I had a tarantula in the garage, I asked it to LEAVE NOW please, it didn't so I had to get a broom and chase it down the cul ce sac... it's us or them sometimes dear girl! ;-)

sorry about the mice.. we also had them living in our grill over last winter and now John has like 20 traps out in the back because he doesn't want them in the NEW grill... anyway.. sending you good vibes that they can easily move them out of your home!

The jewelry for your daughter is soooo beautiful Jimmianne.. really really gorgeous.. your mother must have had class, good taste and love.. I hope your daughter will enjoy these beautiful pieces!

we posted at the same time...

have a great rest of week !

Thank you, tekate. It helps. Truthfully, the situation is even worse than I described. Today was the last straw! Mama mouse ...or friends... chewed up everything in the closet ; all the spare pillows and cases and winter sofa throws, stored electronics, boxes of slides, dvd cases, labels off bottles. I had to toss out almost the entire closet. This is the room where my parrot lives, so I think the mice were happy to have a good source of seed and water and the closet was a perfect environment. Since it is for long term storage I had not been in it for quite some time, and because of the parrot, my cat does not spend time in that room...a perfect storm for happy mice. Lol
Thank you for the good vibes...i need them! It means a lot.
I can almost see you chasing a big ‘ol tarantula down the street

Good night everyone. Sweet dreams xx

Thank you for the call, @missy - I will dare write too... My life has been quite bohemian for a couple of years spent mostly between libraries & labs. I am too old for this sort of thing. Things went deep downhill.

I have just found myself writing on another thread (this post) about how outrageously not good this year has been. I really am happy to be alive - certainly not taking it for granted. This year, I sure did it - NIRDI! Next? I'd say, this is why there are Holidays between years - so one does not think of past them. One thing is certain: I want my writing done.

_

Sidenote: I did spend quite some time recently in a rat-rich friend's house - so I hear you @Jimmianne ! Let 'em have the fields. It is amazing how much other life might be in old houses - if not every inch is lived in, them lot find it.

Hi NIRDI’s!

Missy, I sure hope the new mattress works well for both of us. This is the only mattress I’ve ever had in my live that wasn’t firm so I can’t say I ever liked it that well. Oh for for an emergency gyn appointment. I hope things went well. I am a light sleeper too. The heat or AC kicking on wakes me up. I sleep better with earplugs because I’m a light sleeper too. Are you getting the keyboard with your iPad? Marty sure likes having a keyboard with his; I don’t have one for mine. I usually do most of my typing on my laptop. I hope the new battery helps your phone. I am liking my pendant just fine. I put it on my hand last night and moved it around like you would a ring and it performs just fine. I think earrings and pendants don’t get the light that ring does. I sure keep checking to make sure my chain is still hooked. I’ll probably break the chain.

Austina, I am keeping the pendant. I really like that color of blue. We still have some snow on the ground but it was near 50 here today. We have a winter storm watch for Saturday though. Noooo! Glad to hear those supplements help your knees. Does chondroitin have fish oil in it? I can’t take glucosamine. I am glad Colin is doing okay; hopefully the bruising heals quickly. Good idea for him to rest up for a few days. That is awesome about the assessor “assessing” this situation should be resolved NOW! i hope they pay up.

Jimmianne, oh no about the mice. Good luck with getting them out of your house. They can sure make a mess. Our first place had mice and I used to walk in and say “Mickey, you little @#$% - we’re home.” Marty didn’t think I was funny at all. Go figure. We got them in our RV too. That freaked me out more than having them in my house. Beautiful sapphire jewelry for you DD.

Kate, I am glad to hear the MRI didn’t bother you. You’d have to knock me out to get me in one of them. I can’t stand anything on or near my face. I have not found my diamond pendant but I am enjoying my sapphire pendant. I adjusted the chain today so I could see it looking down. Ha! A comfy mattress and good pillow make a big difference. I snore; so does Marty but I think I win. I got the 2017 iPad and about a week later the knocked the price down because of the new iPads coming out. Oh well. I like it. I totally get where you are coming from on switching to Apple. Marty managed a networking and IT department for about 15 years and hated Apple products. I had a Sony Vaio with Vista and managed to break that sucker all the time to the point that Marty bought me a Mac laptop so he wouldn’t have to deal with fixing it all the time for me. I hated it so bad that if we had a local Apple store i guarantee I would have returned it that first week. Once I got used to it thought I loved it and now wouldn’t consider going back to Windows. What’s funny is Marty eventually went Mac too. I honestly use my iPad as much as I use my laptop. i can’t wait to see your stacker. i hope PT helps your shoulder. Good luck with that shot on Monday Tell me more about BLT tacos. They sound great! My BIL grows veggies and whenever he gives us some big beefsteak tomatoes we have BLTS, Mm. Darn that your meatballs were soft. Have fun in Boston. Good idea to use a broom to chase away a tarantula. My sister and I had a pet tarantula. It freaked out a lot of people. Our last house had snakes that got in through drains in the basement. If I ran across one of them; I screamed like a little girl.

It was pretty nice here today. It was in the 50’s and only breezy. We have a winter storm watch for Saturday though. Boo. Marty gets home late tomorrow night.

I’ll tell you my snake story. First I ran in to snakes sunning on our deck. Then unknown to me we started getting baby snakes in the basement. Marty was discretely getting rid of them. Then probably the ones getting in started growing. Marty was called in to work for an emergency and got home about 6:45. I am just getting out of the shower so he tells me to wake him up at 7:30 because he has to be at work for a meeting. I carried all my clothes to the living room to get dressed. I don’t have my contacts in yet and think he dropped his belt on the middle of the living room floor. I go to pick it up and its head comes up. It is a SNAKE. The only reason I didn’t scream bloody murder is because I knew Marty was just falling asleep and I’d scare the crud out of him. So I start backing down the hallway and say “Marty, there is a snake in the living room.” I hear a grumpy response “not funny.” To which I say “not kidding.” So he gets up and tells me to get a box and he’ll nudge it in the box; didn’t work. Tried the same thing in a bag. Didn’t work. i tell him to get me a glove and I’ll pick it up. He didn’t believe me. Then it slithers under our entertainment stand - one of those big, heavy ones made for squarish tube TV’s. The snake blended in with the assorted cords for TV, receiver, etc. Marty picks the entire thing up and moves it and pins the snake down with a walking stick. This is 20 minutes later mind you. So he tells me to get his putter and hit it on the head. I hit the wall, his leg, the entertainment center, myself, the floor but didn’t hit the snake once. Marty finally grabs the putter, gets the snake and did make it to his meeting. I told every one that was my EKG test. Good times. After that Marty put very heavy and fine grates every where in our house. I at least never ran in to another snake but his buddy let it slip they kept seeing some in the basement.

Take care.
Marcy

This is out of focus but gives you a better idea of the color and sparkle of the sapphire

Austina, thanks about my Mom’s ring. It is special to me because my stepdad gave it to her and he was and still is my role model for patience and generosity.
I am going with yellow gold for Mildred, 18kt to get as close as I can to the antique inspirations. Maybe 22kt would be closer? I think the process will not be quick, so I’ll have time to figure out how to get what I want. Once I get a better handle on general details I am going to inundate the NIRDIs with advice requests!

Marcy, we posted at the same time. Beautiful color in that stone and looks great with the pink sweater. I am reminded of your Porsche, although I know the interior is not pink!
Oh shoot...just saw your post before that. Yay! Now off to a good read for this insomniac.

GM girls!

@junebug17 hope SC weather is treating you well and yay for you being away missing our snow...though I believe south it is just raining so not going to snow today at our beach house. But we are in the city this week so...anyway thinking of you and hoping you are relaxing and having fun. Did Zoe come with you or is she with your DS?

@marcy no keyboard for my iPad. Like you I prefer mine without as well. In fact I am not sure about the size. I like that it is larger and easier to read but right now (without a case) it feels cumbersome and slippery. More on that below.

So Greg went all the way to the Soho store yesterday morning and transferred all my data etc and my new 12.9 iPad was working great when I realized right before bed last night ummm wrong color! I wanted silver and somehow Greg brought home space gray. He ordered silver but the woman who took the order on the phone to reserve the iPad wrote space gray. We should have caught that error but we did not. So much going on that is no surprise. Now you might think OK no biggie right because there is no clear case made for the 2018 12.9 iPad pro that I like anyway so the case will cover the color of the iPad. But nope it's another mind clean thing with me . So back to the store he goes today and it will be snowing by noon this afternoon. Another thing we have in common. Snow.:wall: And now I hope the transfer goes as well the second time around because all my data was transferred by Greg perfectly including my passwords to most of the online sites I use.

I really am not sure if I love the 12.9 size or should go to the middle one which is about 11 something inches. It is very big and I thought I would love that but it's sort of slippery. Greg said once my case arrives it will be something to grip onto and be easier to handle so I guess I'll stick with the larger size. We only have 14 days to return the iPad and I am not sure he can make another return if I decide I want the smaller size. Of course I could always just give him the larger one and get a smaller one for me as Greg's iPad is a number of years old. Time for a new one for us both.

Love your pendant color Marcy and I am pleased for you that you are happy with it. Looks great. Love your pink sweater too. Pink and Blue are two of my favorite combinations. Soft and pretty and feminine and strong. And cannot wait to hear what you think about your mattress. We are over due for a new one in Brooklyn but I don't love change and I like the mattress soft anyway. But definitely it's been well over the time we should have replaced our mattress. Probably in both homes.

OMG to your snake story.:eek-2: Whew. You lived to tell the tale.
Good rec re the ear plugs. But I am such a princess and the pea I am not sure I would tolerate wearing earplugs in my ear. Anything touching my skin etc annoys me. LOL.
Nice your weather being in the 50s. We are getting snow today and it is most certainly not in the 50s.

@Tekate I too am glad you are getting that injection on Monday and hope it provides complete relief and that your trip to Budapest is unaffected by your shoulder issues which I hope stay quiet during your travels. Get someone else to carry your luggage please. OMG to the tarantula. It might surprise you girls that while I don't want spiders and such around me I sort of like them and love the furry tarantulas. As long as they stay away from me and my home that is.:P2 And wow to the mice and bats. You have experienced it all with the creatures we might admire from afar but do not want living in our homes or cars. Enjoy Boston and Costco today. Costco is one of my favorite stores. Love it there and what can't you purchase there? LOL. It's one stop full service for most things. At great prices. Gotta love Costco. And as my BIL is fond of saying (and I am fond of repeating) we are going broke saving money at Costco. And they sell diamonds. Speaking of diamonds dear Kate I love all your bling and seeing it in person really was something. Your rings shine and dazzle and are quite stunning. But because you are wishing for a 2 carat I wish that for you too. And if I ever win the lottery I will buy all my NIRDIs something special. Yes I will.

And I love reading what you write here @Tekate. Always colorful and interesting. You are a treasure dear Kate. Kate the Great is not an overstatement. (((Hugs))).

@Jimmianne oh I am so sorry and I feel your sadness coming through. I know you would do whatever you could not to have to hurt the mice but I also understand it's you or them at this point and you are doing what you need to do. I would do the same fyi. While I love mice and rats I wouldn't be OK with them running wild all over and through my home and belongings. Sending you hugs and good thoughts and I am so sorry. And yes take care of this problem now before it becomes an even worse invasion. (((Hugs))).

Love your DD's necklace and earrings from your mom. My favorite blue color. Electrically bluetiful.

Hope you had a good night's sleep fellow insomniac. I fall asleep pretty easily. But staying asleep is challenging. Slept till 4 AM today woohoo.

@Austina how is Colin feeling today? I am sorry you don't have cartilage in your knee either and glad the supplements helped you so much. Yes the orthopedist recommended supplements but only after I inquired about them and suggested them. LOL. Anyway I think we will start him off with Chondroitin and Glucosamine and perhaps Turmeric. I already have him taking Vitamin D and K2. Ugh to the insurance issue dragging on...I swear people are incredibly incompetent and/or lazy. A very bad combination. Just yesterday my pharmacy showed me how really stupid they are and I don't like to use that word but in this case it fits to a freaking T. Stupid, lazy, incompetent. So I canceled the new med order and sent it to the home delivery online pharmacy through my insurance company. Greg uses the online service but I never have so fingers crossed this works out better than my stupid pharmacy. I cannot get all my meds online like this but the new one I was prescribed just yesterday I can so fingers crossed.

Hi @AV_ so glad you are here and posting. I am a bohemian at heart. Getting older has made it more challenging and marrying a decidedly non bohemian guy even more so but at my core I am that.

I am so sorry this past year has not been great for you @AV_ and maybe you can take some comfort in knowing you are not alone and also knowing that the year coming in just another month and a half will be a better one for all of us. I feel that is true. And yes glad we survived the past year plus and glad we are alive. Each day we are here is another day we are breathing and loving and feeling. And while it isn't always good it's good that we are still here! I too take nothing for granted. Nothing. Hope you accomplish all you hope to and very interested to hear more about what you are writing and doing re your lab work.

@Sandeek how is your week going? What are your Thanksgiving day plans? When you are up to it (no pressure!) share with us how you are doing. I think of you every day and send continued healing vibes your way. (((Hugs))).

Saw the Gyn yesterday instead of the NP. The Gyn saw I was on the schedule and she switched patients with her NP so she could see me. That was flattering for sure and I was very surprised and happy too. She is a great Gyn and she made the visit pleasant (well as pleasant as it could be lol) and was not in a hurry and took her time. So glad I stayed with her when she moved 2 years ago from the group practice where my internist is to start her own women's gyn practice.
Anyway the appointment confirmed what I thought and all I can say is aging isn't for weak people. That is all I will say on that topic. Bette Davis said it best "Old age ain't no place for sissies!" true dat.

One week to Thanksgiving and still have not decided if we will host or allow my mom (who is chomping at the proverbial bit) to host. LOL it would be so much easier but I really enjoy hosting despite the work. Leaning towards letting my mom do it and giving Greg a break with cooking etc. It would certainly be so much easier...

Greg ordered some more parts to hopefully enable the feral feeding station to become automated. We shall see. Lots of time and energy and money going towards this endeavor and I'm hoping he can make it work.

Question...what do you girls think of this setting with the pink background below? Please share your thoughts with me.
Yes, No or has potential? It has old cut diamonds in the setting so not competing with Bubbalah as modern cut diamonds do. More of a subtle sparkle complementary to Bubbalah. I would think. Not sure. The favorite setting I love is part of a ring and cannot be sold separately. And to undertake a custom job to try duplicating that setting would be unpleasant I think and probably not as successful as I would like. I will share that setting first and then below that setting I will share many photos of a setting I actually can purchase.

First up an original setting I love but I cannot purchase as it is part of the ring. 10 prong original Edwardian setting. The diamond is M SI1. Not nearly as pretty as Bubbalah but the setting is TDF perfect. Cannot purchase it so it's out. Do not want to make this setting because it would end in disappointment I think.

Next up is a setting that is for purchase that I think is super pretty. But not sure if it is too much for Bubbalah to handle as it is not a plain unadorned setting which is normally what I gravitate to. But this setting intrigues me and is lovely IMO. But not seeing it in person I have trouble visualizing and not sure if Bubbalah would look beautiful in this setting. What do y'all think? Yes or No or maybe?

OK girls have a wonderful day! Hugs all around and stay warm and cozy.:wavey:

Hello lovelies

Just a quickie because I’ll catch up later, but just wanted to say that I absolutely  that setting. I know it’s rather fancy, but honestly, because of Bubbalah’s size, she and you could totally rock it. Face up, it won’t detract from Bubbalah but the detailed basket is really a fitting crown for the PS Queen of OECs.

I’ve been looking at these earring setting, which although don’t have any diamonds, reminds me a bit of that setting.

B8B9F6C6-2660-4FDD-95BD-C2123D15CF06.jpeg

Be back later, but thanks for your good thought for Colin, he’s sporting a real shiner this morning, which the surgeon said would happen. He says he’s going to tell everyone I did it!

Haha @Austina I would do the same and often told Greg exactly the same thing. With the numerous procedures I have had because of my skin issues there were many a time I was black and blue and red and bruised and I always told people my dh did it. People who knew us well of course and knew I was going. LOLOL.

Oh those earrings are gorgeous and yes I quite see how they remind you of the setting I shared. LOVE them. Thanks for your input. I must contact Adam and see if he thinks Bubbalah will fit in that setting.

Hugs to Colin and hope his shiner heals fast. Tell him it makes a man look rugged and strong and sunglasses can be quite helpful. :sun:

Thanks, Missy. Very apprciative to have support. That setting on the pink is  incredible!
It is so beautiful...what are your thoughts???

I like it but don't know my own mind and I am not being modest. I truly don't know. I hope to make my mind up definitively one way or another before it is made up for me ie setting is sold to someone else.

Do you think Bubbalah would look beautiful in the setting or do you feel it might be too much stuff going on and take away from her?

It IS a fancy setting, but she is large enough to be fhe center of attention. In person the details on the setting must be very fine, delicate and she is one big disco ball. So in my mind’s eye it would work.
But I believe it depends on what you envison. Do you want dressy or plain for every day wear. I see your style ( from thinking of the clothing that you post) as contemporary and bold. So while it is an amazing setting, will the many little details feel less simple than you prefer? Can you try on the setting in person?
I think it is outstandingly beautiful, but I would want to know what it would translate to, visually, in terms of complimenting both B and your style IRL. Of course if you love it, than that is the bottom line, yes? Then it goes with everything, always.
My two cents. Off to the barn, in the pouring rain, wearing diamonds. LOL

Hi @AV_ so glad you are here and posting. I am a bohemian at heart. ...
Hope you accomplish all you hope to and very interested to hear more about what you are writing and doing re your lab work.

=)2

I am learning to bohemian... intrigued. For example, I had no idea that people could go write in good old pubs & that feels so friendly! (glad that Grandfather left me with a vague taste for soccer (I hardly understand the game, but enjoy the dance & the crowd because memory works that way, I guess) - so I was the one reading on crystal growth in some soccer-crezed pub, sending colourful cold call letters to unsuspecting authors (of the papers I went through)) What keeps one sane! I was worried with myself, until one blessed day I did find out that I was not alone using this sanity method: - I was not alone & in dam' glamourous company: the former PM of Spain took the fall of his mandate - staring at the void in a watering hole too (must have the screenshot). Loughed out loud!

Footnote: I do not drink - nearly at all. I was the sparkling water & expresso customer all this time.

Re. what my research is,

It had started with a fun little adventure - over a year before disaster struck, with a talk about natural pearls that were a bit mysterious: fancy stuff, not nacreous, and it was not know what made them. The owner, a professor & I banded together to find out what these were & why they look as they do (we did, I still have two of the samples left so I can finish some publication). This sort of thing got going: divers sent samples from just everywhere in the world (where 'saples' are pearls not usable). Could I do anything with them? I took this seriously: logged the pile as a research collection at the university & kept myself & quite a few bona fide academics interested. As most investigation, this led far from what anyone wished or expected: no, we could not help with natural/cultured ID, no, we could not ID species, no - to just about anything...; yes - I could spend even more time looking for how natural pearls start forming, something that is not known despite the fact that grafting does work... I had to leave the idea in a drawer until now. Disaster had struck & I could hardly spend more time on work not in demand. I had to take care of life. which life turned so bad, that... I had to take my mind out of it somewhere - and I knew a place: a somewhat abstract side of the work on pearls, having to do with crystal growth, and this, took off - or so I am told. No idea what to expect, really - which is much more than I can say about the pearl story (I cannot' get myself to look over that stuff, although I should send a Farewell note to all who kept track of the work...)

This is it (laugh-cry)!

_____

changing subject

I am using a much smaller tablet than yours 9.7in, and it is as heavy as I can stand it for long stints of reading. Very useful! Your talking of 11in makes me want to try go big, though.

I love the not-empty, simpler setting... the basket construction is just detailed enough. You have quite a diamond!

Hello lovelies

The pendant looks absolutely lovely @marcy, easier to appreciate the real size of it on, and the colour really is TDF. I don’t really know what chondroitin is. I’ll have to look it up, all I know is that it’s helping. OMG to snakes in the house, I once had to stop Harry from grabbing an adder, which are about the only large snakes we get here.

I once had the next door neighbour ringing the door bell in a panic. She was convinced she had a snake in the house, I asked her what it looked like, and she said yellow and black. I told her I was pretty sure we didn’t have any snakes like that, but that I’d come and have a look. Anyway, she took me to where the snake was, I entered cautiously and then burst out laughing. The ‘snake’ was a long piece of yellow and black tape, that had been discarded from a box they’d unpacked

@Jimmianne those pieces are absolutely stunning, what a beautiful colour, and I particularly like the necklace. Will 22k be durable enough to wear everyday? It’s certainly popular in India, I know it’s the choice for more special pieces.

I don’t like killing little critters either, but you can’t have them invading the house and causing untold damage. If they get into the walls, they could chew through the electric cables. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Hope you had a safe journey to SC @junebug17 , enjoy the weekend with your DH.

Hi @AV_ I hope that life calms down for you and begins to treat you more gently.

Good luck with the jab @Tekate , hopefully it’ll bring you relief from the pain so you can really enjoy your trip, and a better quality of life. Please stop saying you’re old - I’m not far behind you, and I consider myself to still be relatively young

@missy you know my thoughts on the previous settings, and I can honestly say, that I absolutely adore this one, and if it’s what you want, I really hope it works out.

Well, I’m pleased to report we have some good news. True to his word, the assessor yesterday did go back and advise the insurance company to settle, as he felt the job couldn’t be done for less than we’d been quoted. We got a call yesterday offering us full settlement of the quote from the company we want to use. This morning they called to say the cheque would be in the post today

Once the money is in our account, I’ll be sending a suitably snotty email to the claim consortium telling them where they can shove their derisory offer  I know they won’t care, but it’ll make me feel better

Can’t believe it’s Friday tomorrow. Off for my cut and colour in the morning.

:wavey:

@marcy I see a virtual YOU with your husband in my mind.. it must have been hellish and hysterical and funny.. Snakes, don't like 'em.. One time John was off to Israel again and it was my job to handle the pool, I pull up the skimmer top and there's 2 effing DEAD rats.. oh my God, I freaked, I told my 12 year old son to get them out and he said NO NO NO!!!! so, I got some kitchen tongs and BIG BLACK PLASTIC bag and tonged them out.. I knew they were dead but I was sure I was going to get bubonic plague or something, and I'm getting more pissed at my husband because the time b4 when he went to Israel we had a FREEZING RAIN SLEET storm and electricity was knocked out, pool pump froze, so around 3:30 a.m. I'm sleeping on the couch and there's a big loud knock on the door (electricity pops back on) guy says: "I'm from Austin energy and I"m here to restart your gas pilots" I thought okay, I'm gonna die here.. but he went up to the crawl space and started both heaters and went on his way! my son's cheered! I swore I would never have another Israel trip during problems.. WRONG.. :) he kept going :)

I'm good and thank you for your words! here's the BLT recipe.. if you can't read it I'll copy the whole thing for you.

Take care.
Marcy

@missy THAT setting is gorgeous, I love it, Bubbalah would love it too.. its close if not exactly what I would want with a disco ball like your beautiful Bubbalah!!!!!!

I like a thinner shank unless it is a type of ring like Jimmie is doing where she wants a right hand ring.. of course this is me.. but I hope you do this one or something more like this one that you want.. I think you should be really sure because your stone is beautiful and it deserves a home you want for it.

I just got a text from Katie Missy, showing the snow on Clinton Ave! you must have some snow too. Yahoo.. TOO EARLY!

Missy You are such a wonderful girl.. you always always make me feel better. THANK YOU. xoxoxo looking forward to the cruise Budapest, Vienna Prague and some other places I forgot the names of ha!

@Austina GREAT NEWS on your predicament with the insurance companies.. I think they just do this stuff to see if one will give up. I'm glad you didn't. I gotta shake my head on insurance in general, they suck. Commericials etc tout we insure you, then try to collect meh.

Thank you for your kind words about Kate the Greats shoulder.. my mom always said "if it isn't one thing it's another Catherine" :)

@Austina girl, soon I will be the bionic woman.. I feel spritely but arthritisy but you are right, in my head I feel young.. 32! or maybe 12.. not sure :)

((Austina!))

Hi @AV_ I hope that life calms down for you and begins to treat you more gently.
...
Can’t believe it’s Friday tomorrow.

I do trust that Life has mellowed - cca. mid October. I am still reeling from all that was before. Who ever lives like that... There is no real lesson either, else I'd tell more of the rather personal story ['Do not like men who do not like women' - could be the short version]

Can't belive it is Friday tomorrow! (Amen to this)

Hi NIRDI’s!

Thank you for the kind words about my sapphire pendant. I am enjoying it.

Jimmianne, 18K yellow gold for Mildred will be perfect. i am so anxious to see your final ring. How exciting. Funny you mention that sapphire matches my car; that was the first thing I said when we saw that color in the car lot - it matches my ring. I am glad I went with a red interior instead of pink though. I love to imagine you going to the barn wearing diamonds. I used to wear jewelry camping. I put them all away before dark though.

Missy, I checked some of the NYC webcams this afternoon and it looked like you were getting snow. Oh no! I bet your new iPad seems quite a bit larger than your old one. I used my new one without a case for about a week and was very careful with it - being a klutz and all. Oh no that Greg had to return your iPad because it was the wrong color. I totally get making sure you get the color you want. It matters. Things do transfer really well. Not a bad idea if you find you don’t like the 12” size to give it to Greg and get the smaller one. Mine is 10.5 inches and Marty’s will be 11”; I am curious to see the size difference. I bet he stays up tonight getting it going. Finding a new mattress is a challenge. So many of them are online now. My snake story does make me laugh; I can still see me using the putter and only being able to hit everything but the snake. Good thing we didn’t have a video of that. I hope ordering your meds online works well. Darn for having a hassle at your pharmacy. i am glad you got to spend some time with your gyn and sorry to hear your suspicions were confirmed. Getting old is not for sissies. I love that first setting (the one you can’t purchase alone). It is very elegant looking. The setting you can buy is gorgeous and looks like a solitaire from the top but I wonder if the side is too busy that you can’t enjoy your diamond from the side? Too funny you and Greg would mess with people too, isn’t it fun?

Austina, funny you said that the side of that setting is fit for a queen; I thought it looks like an intricate crown. That earrings match it really well. They are pretty for sure. Poor Colin. I like the idea of him telling everyone you did it. Sounds like what Marty and I would do. I definitely wasn’t thrilled about snakes in the house. That is very funny about the yellow and black snake your neighbor found. Remember last summer when I smacked the crud out of black thread because I thought it was a big spider? Your mind sees what it wants to see. That is awesome news your check is in the mail. Finally!

AV, i am glad you have something you thoroughly enjoy learning about. I hope things get better for you soon.

Kate, I am sure we were quite a sight trying to capture that snake. I would have freaked out over the dead rats too. Marty worked overseas quite a bit for 2 years and everything went wrong when he was gone. Furnace quit, garage door opener broke, blizzards almost every week. We didn’t like it but we survived, right? Thanks for the recipe. Anything with bacon has to be good. Is the snow heading your way?

Marty’s plane is on time for once. Poor guy won’t get home until well after midnight though. He is heading back the first week of December then will be home the rest of this year.

Take care.
Marcy

Hi Nirdis!

@missy, good news about Greg's knee and I hope the recommended treatments and the supplements help him with any discomfort he's feeling. Bubbalah looks amazing under those examining room lights! Congrats on your new iPad and I hope you get used to the larger size - I intially didn't like my larger phone but now I love it. Sorry you needed to make an unexpected visit to your Gyn and I hope the issue can be taken care of. The setting you posted is very pretty! I don't think it would detract from Bubbalah, she is so big and sparkly that I think she could hold her own in this setting.

@Austina, glad to hear Colin made it through his treatment and I hope he heals quickly. Poor guy, sounds like he's been through a bit of a rough time. I'm so happy the gate issue has been resolved! Whew, finally...and what a relief things worked out so well. Lol to your neighbor's snake scare!

@marcy, I'm glad you're keeping the pendant, the sapphire is so lively and bright. I love it against your pink sweater. And sweet that an upgrade is always and option in case you happen to change your mind! I do hope you like your new mattress, having the right mattress really does make a difference. LOL to your snake story - Although I'm sure you were definitely NOT laughing at the time! How great that Marty will be home for most of December. I'm sure he's so tired of all the travel and a break from it will be so nice for him. And nice for you to have him around!

@Jimmianne, I am so sorry about the mouse situation and I know you feel terrible about it but please try not to feel badly. You really don't have any choice at this point and better to get things under control now. (((Hugs))). DD's necklace and earrings from your mother are absolutely gorgeous, thank you for sharing them with us. I love your RHR ideas. I have an 18k gold ring and imo the gold color is rich and vibrant. I'm thinking 22k might be too soft? But not sure on that so don't quote me!

@Tekate, I know the shot is a temporary fix but at least your shoulder will feel ok for your trip. Your cruise sounds fabulous, you must be getting so excited! Oh no to rats in the pool, that is just awful and there's a good chance I might have passed out!

@av, I am so sorry you have had such a rough year and I hope things are going more smoothly for you now. It can take a long time to recover from a traumatic period. It sounds like you are starting to get back to things that interest you and that you enjoy and I'm so glad. It must feel good to be able to be more engaged with life. And yes, hanging out in pubs while reading and writing does sound very bohemian! :P2

We're having a nice time here, although the weather isn't great - very chilly and cloudy. But at least no snow ha! Zoe didn't join us on this trip, she's home with ds. We're going into Charleston tomorrow and will do some window shopping and get dinner. I'm trying to recover from the haircut I got before I left for SC - I asked the hairdresser to cut my hair a little shorter and I think she might have lost her mind temporarily because she proceeded to cut it VERY short. Oh well, I'll like it in a few weeks. And it only takes a minute to wash my hair so there's that

Hope everyone has a good weekend and stays warm and dry! <3

Austina, congratulations on seeing the end of the gate drama!

June, yes you are in the chilly rain zone. I hope it is not too much of an inconvience for your trip. Thanks for the bling compliments. It was hard to reveal to my daughter that the bling now belongs to her. Lol I LOVE short hair and bet it looks wonderful on you. Yes to ease of washing as a bonus.

Tekate, excited for your trip!

GM girls!

@junebug17 sweet deal being in SC away from our snow. We got more than I think was predicted and omg people were stuck in their cars for hours throughout NYC because of the rough storm. Heard on the news this AM there were people on the Major Deegan for 10 hours stuck in their cars OY. That would have pushed me over the crazy edge I think. Anyway glad Zoe is safe and sound with your DS and in good hands. Hope you continue enjoying a lovely vacation with your DH and staying warm and cozy despite chilly weather everywhere. Winter has arrived early and is here to stay. Sorry about your too short haircut but glad it will grow fast and within a few weeks you'll be sporting a sassy do. You are so beautiful (inside and out) that no hair mistake can take away from your beauty. It shines.

@Tekate so excited for you and your upcoming trip. Thank goodness there are temporary measures to provide relief for your shoulder pain. Oh yes we got a good amount of snow. Please tell Katie if she needs us to not hesitate contacting us by the way. Such a sweet girl but not surprising since you are her aunt.:halo: Thank you for the Bubbalah love and thank for your generous compliments...I feel the same about you Kate the Great.:kiss2:

@marcy I got the silver iPad yesterday. Greg went to the World Trade store and exchanged the space grey for the silver and it is much prettier to my eye. He transferred all the data again for me. Sweet. I want a clear case but cannot find one for the 12.9 2018 model so ordered a silver case and it is arriving today. Hopefully clear cases will come out soon and I can get that too at some point. If I don't like the way it handles I have time to exchange for one that is a smaller size. But my previous iPad still works and I can use that one if I want to take it with me when I go places since it is lighter. Greg said we should get that battery changed professionally (only $100) to see if that improves the battery charge life.

Thanks for your thoughts re the settings. They mirror my thoughts exactly. I still am undecided. The seller of the semi mount (empty setting pictured above pink background) is holding it for me til next week to give me more time to mull it over. Super nice of her. Adam loves the setting and recommended I buy it. I am concerned it will be too shallow like the previous setting I bought and then had to return.

Marty is home now right? Must be nice to have him back home and hope those killer bunnies are behaving haha. One more trip for him but then he is good til 2019 that is sweet. Traveling can be exhausting. How is work going this week? Woohoo it's Friday. What are your weekend plans?

@Austina yay for the good news re your gate. :appl:Thanks for the feedback re the setting. What are your weekend plans?

@Jimmianne thanks for all your guidance. Still no closer haha. Hope you are well on your way to having a safe home and sending you more good thoughts. You'll be OK but it is unpleasant and I am so sorry you are dealing with this nightmare. (((Hugs))).

@AV_ I agree completely about "do not like men who do not like women"...sage advice and it should be taken to heart. When I was in the dating world it was a non negotiable if a man spoke badly about his mom to me. Or if you could tell they just did not respect or even like women in general. Ummm no thanks, next please. Something we have in common is I rarely drink alcohol either. Very comfortable in a pub drinking water. No problem at all for me. In fact every St Patrick's Day we go on a pub crawl with my dh's college buddies (graduated in 1980 and still enjoying the pub crawl tradition together with all his buddies and now my buddies too) and I never have anything to drink alcohol wise. Water is good.

I am sorry you experienced challenging times and hoping life is getting easier and sweeter for you. Thank you for that lovely compliment re my diamond. I loved that setting too that I shared above but it is part of a ring and the owner won't sell it separately. So it cannot be my setting sadly. The empty setting is the one I can purchase but not sure about it and just thinking about it for the weekend and then I will decide. As for the larger iPad I will keep you posted as to my thoughts. It is super big. 12.9 inches. I could have gone for the in between size at 11 or the smaller size at 10 but no I had to get the biggest size. LOL see not just big diamonds that I like.

Thank you for sharing about the bohemian lifestyle and your pearl story. Loved reading about it. When I was younger (20s and 30s) we would attend poetry readings in the pubs. As for pearls I know nothing about them except that I like high lustre and I find pearls very lovely and feminine and beautiful.

@Sandeek how did your week go? Any weekend plans? Thanksgiving day plans? Woohoo it's a short workweek next week. I know you and @marcy appreciate that. Hope you are feeling well.

Have a wonderful Friday girls!:wavey:

Hello hello and thanks for letting me play catch up. Hurray for casual Friday and wearing my puffy vest. Trying to get ready for our overseas trip and leaving next week. Still the hard part left of figuring out what to pack. I can already hear my mom’s voice now… that looks terrible on you. Hahaha… moms can be honest. Still not sure what will result with the water leak but won’t worry about that until later. Wish me luck on my flight as I get really motion sick and will be once again, blind folding myself the whole way there to try and prevent being that girl throwing up again and again. Promise it’s not due to drinking! Someone actually asked me that on the plane once… maybe I’ll just say I’m pregnant and get moved up from coach? Haha… as worse as I feel on planes I’m more embarrassed for the people around me though DH says I’m a princess when I throw up and it’s very quiet. I’ll take that as a compliment?! Doing a friendsgiving this weekend as well and in charge of roasted veggies. Yum! Ya’ll have a great Thanksgiving and eat an extra turkey leg for me!

@missy – snazzy ipad. Wow, those have come a long way as the screen is near the edge of the device now.

Sorry for just chiming in now. Gosh, hope you find the right setting. Can I be honest and hope you don’t mind but between the two settings, I do like the first one a lot, particularly the side profile view that is really unique to me!! I do understand that it’s not for purchase but as you mentioned before, a bench can reproduce it. The second one is beautiful as well but very different style. Seems more of a delicate feel and perhaps you need to be more careful with it? I would be a bit worried about bumping it on the sides and not sure if it would bother you to baby the ring? Can’t go wrong with that choice though as it would still make Bubbalah the star of the show!

@Austina – Yippee on the full settlement. Whew, what hoops ya’ll had to jump through and all the worries to go with it… but thank goodness for that assessor. Way to go… and sounds like you just saved some money to get some pretty earrings? Hahaha …

Hope Colin is doing well and his bruising has gone away!

@junebug17 – Zoe is home with DS? Does that mean extra treats for Zoe? We are about to go on our trip abroad and hoping that the autofeeder doesn’t get tipped over or the power stops. My cat won’t be happy if he’s deprived of both food and many hugs/petting. Yikes sorry about the shorter hair cut but good attitude that it will grow back. Did you tell her or was it more of “well what’s done is done…” also in situations like that, would you still tip them especially if it’s someone you will see again?

@marcy – enjoy your time with Marty! Hope he gets some rest as that is a very late flight!

Ohhh I just saw your post above. Sparkle sparkle, sapphire!

@Jimmianne – Sorry to hear about the mice! But oh my goodness… a next inside the walls?!?!

@Tekate – Oh wow, Budapest? How long are you staying and how did you pick that place to travel? On my list of places to see one day! Hope the shoulder doesn’t bother you when you are abroad.

PBear, catch me up, please...where are you going?

PBear, catch me up, please...where are you going?

Apologies... going to see my mom in Taiwan and visiting Cambodia as well for the first time. One of these days it will be a trip to Europe but until then, feels like the right thing to squeeze in trips to see family.

AV, I am glad you have something you thoroughly enjoy learning about.

This, is true! I do not care to know how to do without (‘seen enough hollow ghosts on library hallways - men who do not...)

@av ... yes, hanging out in pubs while reading and writing does sound very bohemian!

We're having a nice time here, although the weather isn't great - very chilly and cloudy. But at least no snow ha! ...

Yes. who knew I can live like that? I am a gardening, weaving, sewing, nesting animal… requiring Large libraries (which used to be far & foreign - hence my once putting up with long stretches of exile to get to them). I do not expect to run out of Google Scholar with Twitter footnotes - so it might just be possible for me to have it both ways (not that I have nailed the perfect life yet.)

I hear you about unexpected haircuts: HATE THAT... Yes, it does grow back… Lately, mine decided on a dozen silver highlights too ,) - rather enjoying the style!? About time too.

I loved that setting too...

As for the larger iPad I will keep you posted as to my thoughts...

Re. ‘sage advice’,

There is a Romanian word of wisdom: ‘May that I have the mind of the day after’. I cannot say I have met men who respect women except mothers - of theirs or of their children; all too complicated.

I hear you about pub crawls! This was my pleasure back home - a mid-December pre-Holidays pub gettogether. Nobody ever objects to my not drinking the same stuff - as long as I am holding a glass (or so I think).

.·.

Re. setting: you keep saying that you cannot realistically imagine a design, yet I hear you mention details - as precise as if you were doing a technical drawing (just a thought).

.·.

Re. Ipad: Looking forward to impressions. I do not know anyone else using their iPad allot without a keyboard - that is to say, not in would-be laptop mode.

YES to poetry evenings & such... I sure do that. .) (I switched to the sciences, so do not quite know the right scene locally, but do this: WWW - the place is so beautiful, it does not quite matter what the pretext to visit is - any chatter / sing-song will do & some stuff is good)

.·.

Re. pearls… I came to see a lot of stuff that is never shown to buyers: the majority of natural pearl harvests that are not even nacre. I did not notice pearls until then.
