Now I really did it :((

Thanks, Sharon.
I used to ask my mom about her childhood memories. One time we even made a floor plan of the house she grew up in. It seem to make her happier.
Now I wish I asked her a million more questions! :-) as I get older I am more curious about my parents life experience.

Such a difficult time of life both for parents and children. Sending good thoughts to you and to your mom this morning.

Woke up at 4 AM, Marcy, and took these photos.D2E3DA72-B6F9-4B59-B727-17D9081BE202.jpeg And as I was taking them you immediately came to mind.04C66783-0A13-481D-A5D4-0E1661F23254.jpeg

I am teaching myself chess. It’s addictive. Any other players in the NIRDI world?

love to all

GM girls!

Beautiful stars @Jemi

Safe travels @Austina

@canuk-gal continued well wishes being sent to you, your mom and your family.

@Slick1 I am sorry you are going through family issues with your MIL. Sending you strength and lots of hugs.

Hope you are enjoying a good week @bling_dream19

@MamaBee hope your mom is doing OK and you can visit her this week.

Hi to everyone else.

We had a great cycling day yesterday. Jimmy had a car emergency so as we were riding up to the ice cream shoppe he had just texted us to use our key and get our ice cream. So we did. I always feel funny about that but Greg does not haha. SO Greg served us our ice cream and it was delish.

A little messy but still delicious.

Screen Shot 2021-10-12 at 5.27.09 AM.png

It was incredibly windy yesterday so after ice cream we took an alternate route and it was fantastic. I love the alternate routes. Lots of Halloween decorations and lots of leafy surburbs. A really fun autumn ride. And the temps were much warmer than I thought they would be. It was just super windy. But the alternate route away from the sea protected us.

We saw a gorgeous doe and her sibling.

And when we got home our security cameras caught our ferals at play. This makes us so happy seeing them content. There are four of them in this security camera photo.

Hugs to all the NIRDIs who need it and lots of love.

Oh I almost forgot, did promise you some Halloween photos from our ride yesterday. Hope you enjoy. We were running late so I didn't get as many photos as I wanted to but will get more this week.

We’re moving from the UK to Texas tomorrow. Easy decision for us, our only child lives there and wants us to be close by.
@Austina I didn’t want to thread jack the other thread. I just wanted to tell you my experience with living there…I wish you all the happiness in your new adventure!
I lived in Texas five years in the late 80’s. I was new to the state..having just received the news that my son had autism. I was supposed to do some heavy duty interactive therapy at home. I didn’t have any friends because I had just moved there. I was crying on the steps outside my house. My neighbor, who I just met that minute, asked me why I was crying. I told her that I needed to do therapy for my son but I didn’t know anyone..so it wasn’t possible. She asked me how many people I would need. I told her a lot. I had to do this therapy in batches of five people throughout the day. The very next day she came to my house to tell me she had twenty-five people that will come to help. They will do all the scheduling. This therapy was controversial at the time but I thought if I did it he would be well. I was a young mom so I believed the so called experts. I had professional people, stay at home moms and dads, etc..show up every day for four years. I had one lady who was a doctor who would come when she had a cancellation to vacuum my house and do my breakfast dishes. She would laugh that she didn’t even clean her own house…They carried me through a very hard time in my life. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the people in Texas.

Austina where in Texas are you moving?

I’m Texan born and bred. Most folks in Texas are nice people willing to help anyone. There is a small percentage of folks that are jerks but that is anywhere not just Texas.

Mary

Mary

Agree, there a good people and jerks everywhere! I lived in San Antonio for a decade and overall folks were very friendly.

I’ve been in Florida for 6 years now and still consider Texas home. About twice a year I think about moving back to Texas but husband doesn’t want to and since I am sort of attached to him Florida I stay. BTW Florida has very nice people, I live close to Tampa which is a melting pot of folks from everywhere.

Must of my neighbors are from the Northern states and laugh at our accents.

Hello lovelies

I didn’t know that @MamaBee. I’ve heard about that therapy, and in fact I looked in to helping someone who had a child with autism, but ultimately decided that with my other commitments at the time, I couldn’t guarantee to be a constant help.

We’ve been travelling to Texas for many years now and have always found people to be very friendly towards us, maybe because of the ‘accent’. People are always interested because we’re different

We will be living outside of Austin @DiaLuv. We’ve found Austin itself to not be typically Texan as it’s a young and vibrant place, and now has a lot of Californians (and a couple of Brits) locating there.

Well, in a couple of hours, we’ll be on the plane, so I’ll see you all on the other side. :wavey:

GM girls! It is wonderful (I hope) Wednesday!

@Austina welcome to the USA!!! Hope your flight is/was smooth and the trip easy. Big hugs.

@MamaBee that is heartwarming to read. So happy your experience was a great one and I have no doubt most of the people there are wonderful. I have a few friends now who live in Texas and they are the best. @Bayek @Austina @PierreBear

@Slick1 hope the week is going well. It's Hump Day. LOL.

@bling_dream19 hope you are enjoying your gorgeous new ring and having a lovely week.

@DiaLuv haha I love the Texas accent. Next to my Brooklyn accent it is quite the contrast.

@FL_runner truth. There are wonderful people everywhere. Just like there are not so wonderful people everywhere.
Glad you had a good experience in San Antonio.

GM girls! We had a good cycling day yesterday. Ice cream, animals and good company. And we hit 7500 miles for the season so far. Woohoo.

Today I am up earlier than even usual for me but that is not a surprise. We are heading out at 5:30 AM to go to our internist appointment. Off to work out. Have a wonderful Wednesday lovely ladies. XOXO.

Miracles never cease...Oliver and Tommy are hanging out peacefully. :)
Screen Shot 2021-10-13 at 4.02.25 AM.png

And our ICOTD yesterday. So yummy.

Have a wonderfully sweet Wednesday girls. XOXO.

Welcome @Austina!!! I’m so excited for you!!

HI:

NIRDI shout out!!

Cold and light rain today. No cycling today. Good thing I guess as there were bears sighted along our usual route. Guess they are in town for a meal. LOL

Not much to report. Boring here.

cheers--Sharon

Hi girls..Just checking in..I hope everyone is doing well.
I hope @Austina is already in Texas! You and Colin deserve to sleep for days!
Pottery Barn delivered a dresser for David’s room. After waiting for months it was damaged. I refused it. At the price I paid I’m not going to accept a scratch and dent. The whole corner is crushed. I already donated David’s old furniture..His clothes are now in
huge bins. They said the next delivery will be between October 27 and November something. Oh well..I guess I’ll use this opportunity to put ice cubes in the carpet dents….I’m anticipating it will arrive after Christmas. Furniture isn’t made like it use to be. Everything is MDF..I paid $2500 for it..and it’s not even solid wood.

WELCOME @Austina! How are you feeling? Are you exhausted? I know that "I just changed countries and I have zero idea where I am" feeling! I hope you settle in and find your feet quickly. Sending you big hugs and warmest welcomes to your new home!! ox

@MamaBee - major bummer about the dresser! I really hope you get a replacement this year, at least! Gees Louise - it doesn't seem too much to ask!! How is your mother?

@missy - how are you feeling? I am counting down the days with you till November 2nd; it will be SO good to have this out of the way! Your Halloween photos are amazing!! People around here do a bit - but not heaps. Some people make more of an effort than others, but, on the whole, it's pretty mild. We put our few things up this afternoon....and discovered we can't find a bunch of our decorations! Hunting through things madly now, hoping they turn up. How was greg's birthday celebration?

@canuk-gal - have they given you a date yet that you can see your mother?? I'm so sorry life is flat at the moment. How is work going? How many days a week have you been doing? Sending you warm thoughts and hoping things improve very soon. ox

@marcy - your new ring-to-be looks wonderful! And it would have sent me out of my ever loving to have had all my rings cleaned...only for some nincompoop to touch each and every one!! It sounds like your time with your SIL was fun - did you get some mountain photos or did the snow come down? Is a pre new year retirement looking likely? Following along on this with you. ox

@springerspaniel - FRED!! He's such a darling! Were Tim and I not heading out to LA on Friday, I'd have been beating a path to your door this weekend for a visit! I hope I can see him before he's too much bigger! How is Clyde handling it all? A lot is often expected of older canine siblings! Any progress with work? Thinking of you and sending hugs!

@bling_dream19 - it was lovely to have a chat with you yesterday - despite it being via text! Always SO enjoyable to hear about your projects! And I'm still holding onto the belief that we are ring sisters!!

@Jemi - how are you feeling, now that you're back home? Is the stress subsiding or is it going to take a lot longer than this? And - tell me about those photos, pls! The sky garden - is this a place that is near you, or is it part of your own garden? How big is your property? And the gates in the photo - can you explain them to me pls? Where do they lead to or from? Your setting is sublime and I'm soooo jealous!

@ringcat - Melbourne, huh? Very nice! I'm Sydney suburbs, born and bred, and still call Sydney home. I think I always will. One of Tim's sisters lives in Melbourne with her husband and kids...St Kilda, maybe? Or perhaps she moved.... Clearly, I do not do a great job keeping in touch with my in-laws! Do you work during the day? Can I ask what you do? I hope your week is going well!

As for me, I have a couple of pieces of news. I've definitely decided to push back my surgery. My back is MUCH improved since starting decompression and I'll email the surgeon this evening to let him know my decision. I am relieved to be skipping the surgery, but only cautiously optimistic, as there is every likelihood that this will be a 'push back' not a 'completely cancelled'. But I'll take what I can get for now.

And bigger, better news.....

Part of me moving to California is so I can establish residency. Once I've done that, I am legally able to adopt Eleanor - which she has been asking me to do for some years now. We can do an adult-to-adult adoption, where we jointly petition the court. We need to show that our relationship is representative of a parent and child relationship, but I'm sure we'll have no difficulty with that. So, assuming this goes through without a hitch, at the ripe old age of 61, I'm going to have a baby girl! Go figure. In all truth, this is only representative of the relationship we've had since she was 4 years old and will feel completely natural to us. Legally, she'll then have three parents, but if California is fine with that, who am I to argue? I won't be adopting Nathaniel; he and I are equally close, but our relationship plays out differently and we're both fine with that. But this is something Eleanor needs, so that's what we're going to do. After all these years, it will be wonderful to be able to say - "This is my daughter."

Tim and I head off to Cali on Friday - Tim for the weekend, me till the following Wednesday. Then I'll be back in Boston till December 8th, when I relocate more full time. I'm pretty tired, given that I have decompression 3 days a week - a process that takes about 3+ hours, door to door - while also juggling PT and various other drs appts. By the time I've gone out and back to CA in 5 days, I'm expecting to be pretty shagged out and will be no doubt glad to see my own bed by the time I return next week.

Love to you all. oxo

We’re here! All went smoothly, it was well worth staying at the Sofitel at T5 last night, nice stress free morning, direct access to T5 no delays and a smooth flight.

I’ll catch up properly tomorrow, it’s half past midnight to our body clocks!

Thanks for the warm welcome. :wavey:

@mrs-b How wonderful that you will be adopting Eleanor. I love that you are adopting her as an adult..You chose each other to be mother and daughter. I just love this so much..❤️

@MamaBee and @Calliecake -

Thank you so much for your kind words. As an Australian, I tend to be surprisingly understated about the things closest to me. So - to be frank - this is one of the 2 biggest things ever to happen to me and is certainly one of the very best. I have wanted a daughter of my own for many, many years - long before I met Eleanor. To get this relationship, at this point of my life, with the young woman I adore as much as anyone on the face of this earth, is the fulfillment of a dream. I am SO happy and SO proud and just SO grateful - I'm lost for words.

But thank you for having some concept of what this means to me: it means everything.

As a woman who wanted children more than anything else in life, I completely understand how you feel. To get this relationship at ANY point in life is truly a beautiful gift. It would mean everything to me too. I could not be happier for you. You have to quit making me cry @mrs-b.

GM girls! Happy Thursday!

Woohoo @mrs-b so happy for you! You are a mother to her in all ways and this just makes it official. Congratulations to both of you and sending you big hugs and much love. Happy tears all around! (((((Hugs)))))

@Austina I hope you had/are having a good night's sleep. The beginning of your adventures here. Everything so fresh and new and full of wonderful possibilities. Big hugs.

@MamaBee hope your week has been going well. I had the flu vaccine yesterday and my arm doesn't hurt so now I am wondering did she even give me the flu vaccine? I know that is crazy but my arm never didn't hurt at all before. That is just weird right? XOXO.

@bling_dream19 good morning. I hope you are enjoying a lovely week. XOXO.

@Slick1 hope work is going well and your MIL is behaving herself as much as possible. Hugs.

@Jemi I adore France and while I haven't visited there for decades when I think of France I always think of romance and adventure and mystique and now I think of you too. Big hugs to you and Kine and your sweet grand baby and DD.

@canuk-gal sorry you didn't get to ride yesterday but rain beats snow right? Surprisingly (haha maybe not surprisingly) even after our long morning we did go riding when we got home from the city. It was a really good ride and I am savoring every moment. Cycling by the sea. I wish all my friends could join me. One day maybe we can go cycling together there and I will bring you to the best ice cream in our country. Speaking of ice cream.

Hello to everyone else. I hope you are having a splendid week. As sweet as you are. XOXO.
We are looking forward to cycling today. I just love the smell and sounds of the sea. Cycling by the sea brings us such joy. I want to share it with all of you. Have a wonderful Thursday and have fun, be safe and be well. Lots of love.

Sir Tommy purrs good morning to all you lovely ladies.

Ouch. Just got my injection in the ventroglutes. Definitely hurts. But if it stops my bleeding I would do it every day, multiple times a day if I had to. So please universe, let this stop my bleeding. Pretty please with sugar on top. :halo:

pinjections.jpg

I inject 50 units (.5ml/ccs) twice a week. I could go higher but then I will run out of my meds too soon so really hoping the next vial(s) is (are) shipped soon or else uh oh. C'mon lab in Texas please get those raw ingredients and make my med for me.

@missy I just watched a video on how to give an injection in the Ventrogluteal muscle. It looks complicated..Does Greg have to give you the injections? I hope it works..❤️

Thanks Joanne! He does it like a pro. It stings for a while but it’s not bad. Fingers crossed it works. So far the bleeding is much less so yay!!! Praying it stops it completely.

That’s such good news Missy!!! I hope it stops completely!!!

HI:

Congratulations @mrs-b what a wonderful plan! I m glad you are feeling better and don't require the surgery. And moving to California is very exciting. You and @Austina are living the dream!

I have not working at Covid has effected our elective surgery numbers--and that effects me. I hope to return soon--it is very boring being at home with nothing to do. I am too young to retire.

@missy glad you are still cycling. There are bears out on our route so we have to be careful. It's looking pretty cool today but sunny and dry so I'll see.

NIRDI shout out!!!

cheers--Sharon

Hello lovelies

I’ll start backwards and work my way to earlier in the week!

I’m sorry your work has been disrupted and you’re bored, but glad you’re safe during these times. Honestly, if someone had said you’ll find more to do when you give up work than you did when you were working, I wouldn’t have believed them. I don’t know how we fill our days, but they just fly by. Sending good thought to your Mum.

Wow @mrs-b, congratulations, what wonderful news. Eleanor is a lucky girl and I’m so happy that it’s all working out for you. I always wanted a daughter, and now I have Kim. Thank you for your warm wishes, yes, the last few months have been a whirlwind, and it has been stressful and exhausting, but we’re here now, and as they say, today is the first day of the rest of our lives. Continuing to send lots of healing vibes your way for successful surgery and better health.

@Calliecake, I’m so very sorry that you didn’t get to realise your dream of having children. From the way you speak about your family, I know you’d have been a wonderful mother, your generous and loving nature shines through your posts. Life is very cruel at times, and after everything you went through, it’s just too unfair when you see and read about people who neglect or abuse their children.

What beautiful starry, starry night photos @Jemi. Have you slipped right back in to French life?

Ugh, what a pain about the dresser @MamaBee and you’re absolutely right not to accept anything but perfect. It’s a lot of money for sub-standard quality. I hope they can replace it quickly, poor David having nowhere for his clothes. How’s your Mum doing?

Oh my goodness, what cute kitty pics @missy, and yay for the boys hanging out together without conflict. I’m glad you’re getting some lessening of the problem, despite the less than pleasant sounding treatment, long may it continue to improve. I hope you had a lovely ride today, I know being outdoors and doing what you enjoy brings you peace and happiness.

It absolutely hammered down here yesterday, thunder, lightning, pounding rain, we could’ve stayed in England for that! Poor Bertie was scared and unsettled. He did look very smart in the Union Jack collar I bought him, I’ll have to try and grab a photo later. I don’t know if it happens in other states, but despite having our phones on silent, a flood warning alert went off at 12.45am and woke me up.

We went to collect the car today, what a palaver. You’d have thought they‘d have had all the paper work ready, but no, we were there 2 1/2 hrs  Anyway, we’ve got it now, although I can’t drive it until I get my Texas driving licence.

It’s the 2022 model, so yay!

Kim and I went out food shopping, and I’m cooking dinner tonight, creamy garlic Tuscan chicken.

Our body clocks are still on UK time, so I didn’t sleep particularly well last night and was awake really early.

Thank you all for your warm wishes, we still can’t quite believe that it’s finally happened. Yeee Ha!

:wavey:

Hi NIRDI’s!

@missy sadly I do have to move my car appointment - it is the same morning as the periodontist to see if they can save my cracked tooth. Phooey. Glad to hear you can get a biopsy in November and I am sending mega dust it turns out fine and they can figure out how to stop your bleeding. Glad Greg had a nice birthday too. Love all of your pictures and Halloween fun. I am glad to hear the bleeding has let up and we are hoping it quits completely.

@canuk-gal hoping things are going better this week for you. I am glad you got to talk to your mom. It seems to have turned cold fast this autumn. Nice to see the Rockies with snow again. We can finally see the Rockies now that the smoke has eased up.

@Austina welcome to the USA! It seems like it happened in no time but I know you’ve been working on it for years. How exciting. Thanks for throwing some coins in the pot - we are going to get something from Tiffanys “some day”. Your new car looks great!

@Jemi I am enjoying your pictures of that foreign land and of course the astrophotos. How cool! I see Orion!

@MamaBee what a wonderful story about your neighbor arranging so much help for you when you moved to Texas. I am glad you had people step up and help you. That is too bad about David’s dresser being damaged. I hope they get another one to you sooner than later.

@DiaLuv and @FL_runner yes there are jerks everywhere but IMO they are a minority. Most people are kind, decent and more than willing to help someone out.

@mrs-b that is wonderful your back is doing better and you decided to push out your surgery. How cool to be moving towards adopting Eleanor; sounds like it will be a perfect arrangement for both of you! I was outwardly calm about my jewelry being fingered but I was shaking my head inside. Everything got a Dawn soap bath when I got home. It was fun having my SIL here for a week - she does pick on me but definitely joins in on picking on Marty. Plus she did the dishes. We have not gone back to the mountains yet and it snowed so I am sure a lot of leaves fell off already. I think Marty is going out very early Saturday - I’ll pass. He wants to get a picture of a moose he has seen out there a few times. At this point in time I don’t think I’ll be working in the new year. I think mid December might be my target date right now.

@Calliecake I am so glad you are close and spend time with your nieces - it sounds like they adore you and I know that feeling is mutual.

Well that cold, white stuff feel from the sky and we had solid ice Wednesday morning. It was just enough to be nasty. I wasn’t ready to dig out my winter coat and mittens yet.

Not much new with me. It’s been a busy week at work.

I got my upgraded ruby ring today. I am pleased with the results. Here are a few pictures from my phone.

Take care.
