Now I really did it :((

Merry Christmas lovely NIRDIs, wishing you all the perfect day.

Here’s to 2022 and hopefully a time when we can start living a normal life again, spending time with those who are near and dear to us, and enjoy just being ourselves.

GM girls and happy December 26th/Boxing Day!

We had a lovely time despite being masked the entire visit. Luckily my parents didn't mind wearing their masks for us (they humored me lol but that works) and it was a nice visit. My poor dad is quite black and blue. He is on blood thinners so the fall produced gruesome results. Luckily no broken bones though. Just one photo but it's like this all over his body. Poor dad. :(

The cats are so funny. My parents take even feral cats inside and one of them (Belle) who never comes out when anyone is over came out to sniff me. I was so honored haha.

Meet Belle. She might have RBF but she is adorable.

And then there was JJ, Zoe, Bo, and I forget the other names atm. LOL. Most of them came out for a bit at least but then they all went back to the bedroom to lay in my parents bed.

We only have one photo of us and I refused to take the mask off so lol it is what it is.

I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely day and wishing you a happy and healthy 2022. XOXO.

Forgot to say Greg gave my sister her birthday gift when he saw her this past Thursday with Tommy for his echocardiogram.
She absolutely LOVES it and I am so happy. I bought these earrings almost a decade ago (or more) and spent a small fortune on them but never wore them. They are large diamond hoops. They were too big for me even lol but they look (IMO) AMAZING on her.

She sent us this photo yesterday.

You are both too adorable! I’m happy you enjoyed your visit with your parents.
Your dad’s bruise looks painful. I hope it doesn’t hurt him..:confused2:

Thank you Joanne. He's in considerable pain but he's a trooper. My big concern is he walks hunched over but has done that for a while. It's just worse now. This is the face of osteoporosis and it terrifies me. :(

I hope you had a wonderful time with your family. How is everyone doing?

They DO look amazing on her! Very beautiful all 'round!!! She deserves them--working FT during this awfully long panademic and raising a family!!! She deserves a (gold and diamond) medal!!

Hello lovelies

Your poor Dad @missy, that loos so painful, he was really lucky not to break something when he fell. I’m so glad you got to spend time with your parents yesterday, I hope you now feel better for having seen them. Wow, the earrings look amazing on your sister, I’ll be she was so thrilled, what a fantastic gift.

I hope all the lovely NIRDIs enjoyed their day, and didn’t stress the small stuff.

We had a great day yesterday, ate till we almost burst, watched White Christmas, then took Bertie to the dog park.

Today Kim & I have been out bargain hunting for Christmas stuff for next year. She’s bought tons of things, I was more restrained and just got a tree, down from $225 to $67.50. I love a bargain  We’re going to have to set it up to make sure all the lights work and it looks good.

We’ve just had our traditional Boxing Day meal of cold turkey and ham, and bubble and squeak.

Happy Sunday :wavey:

Hi NIRDI’s! I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas yesterday.

@missy I am so glad you and Greg went to visit your parents. Ouch to your poor dad falling; I am glad he didn’t break anything. I hope the thyroid meds can help Tommy. Your diamond hoops look great on your sister! What a nice gift.

@Austina love the mugs you and Colin got for Christmas. You are right there isn’t any way you can change when you house is ready and you definitely don’t want them to rush anything. All of your baked goodies sound delicious. Nice that you and Kim went bargain shopping today - we thought about it but the parking lots are a sheet of ice so we came straight home after going out for breakfast.

So my retirement officially began at 5:05 Thursday when I logged in and approved my employees time cards. They killed my email access pretty much by 5:06 pm. I thought friends were coming over to play cards Thursday night but soon people from work started showing up. My “surprise to me” party was at 6:30 and we had quite a few people come and visit for 60 to 90 minutes. Marty put up some nice decorations and had some snacks for everyone. After the work gang left our friends stayed and we played cards and consumed too much adult beverages till about midnight. It was fun.

Friday I did my lifting and wrapped my last presents and baked a cheesecake for Saturday.

We woke up to a white Christmas - about 6 inches of it. Marty got to try out his new snow blower. He said it was worth every penny. We opened presents and I made us ham and cheese scrambled eggs for breakfast. We watched Christmas movies and went over to some friends house about 4:30 for dinner. They had crab legs, scallops, filet and cheesy scalloped potatoes for dinner. We played games until about 10 pm and ventured home.

Today we went out for breakfast and had a grilled sirloin cap and baked potato for dinner. Snow has been falling off and on today.

I got my January article ready to review then send it off tonight. The local paper had a great article about Marty yesterday because one of his gym clients nominated him for a series they run called unsung heroes. She is 80 years old has been trained by him for about 4 years now. Very cool.

Take care.
Marcy

@marcy Congratulations! Your decorations and celebrations with former coworkers and friends was a nice way to celebrate your retirement. Your cake was hysterical!

@Austina I love the relationship you have with Kim. It sounds like you really lucked out with each other. I love a bargain too..That’s a great price for a a Christmas tree! I heard they were hard to come by this season..

@missy You guys are so cute! I love your leggings and Greg’s outfit! I’m happy you had a great time visiting your parents.
You mentioned that your sister confided in you about a health issue. I hope it isn’t serious..It’s a good idea not to worry your parents until she finds out more information.

We had a nice Christmas..but I’m totally exhausted.
My mom and Chris came to spend the day. I tested everyone except for my mom on Friday because the home did it before I picked her up. On Saturday I tested everyone again. On Christmas Day Chris started perspiring and then would get chilled. It was a little scary because I worried that he could have Covid..even though I tested him. He didn’t have an appetite which is unusual. He finally decided to go home without staying for dinner. I packed up the food for him so he could take it home. This morning he said he realized that he didn’t take his meds that morning. He takes meds for various issues. If he missed one it probably wouldn’t make such a reaction but he forgot to take them all. He took them when he got home when he realized that he forgot. He feels better today but now has to gently shift his medication schedule to get back on track. I was so worried it was Covid. It’s a relief..
My mom had a wonderful time. I took her back to the home around 7:30. She had a glass of wine so she was feeling happy when I brought her to her room. Haha
I just got a phone call that there are five positive Covid cases. They are all staff. They work on all the floors so everyone has to be tested. I went in there twice yesterday. I was close to quite a few nurses. I wore my kn95 mask as usual.. I hope my mom will be okay. I made her wear a kn95 mask when I picked her up. Her poor ears aren’t firm anymore so they bend if I try to make her mask tight. I bought her the little band that goes across her head..but it still pulls her ears down. They are keeping the home open but are discouraging visitors. It also said according to CDC that staff may come back to work except for the positive cases. I guess that means even if they were in contact with the five staff members that tested positive..they can continue to work unless they have symptoms. I’m glad I got to visit with my mom for long periods of time on Friday and Saturday. I won’t be going to see her for a while now. I don’t know how I’m going to do this.
Hi to everyone else..XO

GM girls! Happy last week of 2021!

@marcy congratulations on your official retirement and how nice Marty threw you a surprise party. Greg knows I would literally kill him if he attempted a surprise party haha. But to each her own and I am glad you enjoyed yours. When I had my retirement party at work they let me know about it ahead of time because they knew how much I hate surprises lol. That cake looks very yummy. :lickout: And how nice you woke up to a white christmas. That is special.:kiss2: Christmas dinner at your friends house sounded delicious. Yummm. Wow to Marty being nominated as one of the heroes. Kudos to him and how nice of his client to nominate him. And sweet you are almost finished with your January article. Congrats again on retirement. I hope you love it as much as I do. We watched A Christmas Carol the other day. It was so good. I really enjoyed it and if you haven't seen the 1938 version I highly recommend it.

@Austina sounds like you had the perfect Christmas and Boxing day too. Delicious food and even better company. And haha I am with you regarding the bargains. Nice going. I cannot purchase gifts that much in advance as I forget I have them. LOL. Have a wonderful Monday and hugs to Bertie.

@canuk-gal aww thanks. She is my favorite (only) sister. My baby sister and I always want to make things good for her. She definitely works very (too) hard and is a full time mother to boot. And she is a great mom. She does everything with and for the kids that she can. She is hands on which as you know is challenging when working so many hours. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that your family is doing well. I hope your mom enjoyed a lovely time with all of you.
And I also am continuing to send good thoughts to you for your continued recovery and your mom for her continued good health.

@MamaBee I am so happy you enjoyed a wonderful time with your family at Christmas but sad Chris had to go home. Thank goodness it wasn't covid and forgetting the meds can be risky so yeah he needs to set a timer or something reminding him. I get it as I take meds and supplements around the clock (literally as I wake up twice in the middle of the night for supplements and thyroid meds-crazy I know but it's working). So hope he can sort that out. Ugh to five more people testing positive at your mom's living place. Very scary. :( Could you get your mom to wear the masks that dont go around the ears but over the top of the head? Alternatively how about a clip holding the mask on behind the head? So you bypass the ears. Just a thought. I use both types of masks. Around the head and clipped behind the head so it takes all the pressure off the ears. Anyway sending you lots of good wishes to you and your family.

@bling_dream19 I loved that photo. So cool. And they would have been open if it wasn't the day after Christmas as they are usually opened on Sundays. Oh well it was a thrill anyway and thank you for sharing. So glad you had a wonderful holiday.

@Slick1 hope you enjoyed a wonderful time. Keeping good thoughts for you.

@springerspaniel happy holidays! Hoping you had a wonderful time and are looking forward to a great 2022.

Hi to everyone else. We went hiking yesterday and it was just lovely. It was not too cold (50s F) and we could have gone riding but I felt like hiking so probably that's it for the year cycling as the weather looks to be very cold for the days left for the remainder of the year. Today is a much colder day so probably hiking and then tonight I have my every other week zoom call with the girls so looking forward to that. The time is flying by and before we know it 2022 will be here. May it be gentler and kinder to us all than 2021.

We got to hike yesterday and then we got to enjoy the beauty of the beach in winter. I love living here.

Happy Winter and happy last week of December 2021 girls. 5 days left to 2021.
Wishing for everyone a happy, healthy, peaceful and joyous 2022.

HI:

NIRDI shout out!

It seems like forever since I posted. Hope everyone is safe and well.

Visiting home before Christmas was good and sad. Being in my Mom's lovely house without her being there, was challenging. I had a few tears that's for sure. So many memories.

Mom's facility is small and really lovely. Her room is spacious and is nicely decorated. She is settling in. Unfortunately she is back in an active treatment hospital b/c her sodium was very low + a UTI so she became ill quite quickly.:(:(sad She was there over Christmas and at this point, we don't know when she'll be discharged.

The weather is unreasonably cold here and I just hate it. Cold warning has been issued.:roll::roll::roll: It is supposed to ease up this week.

Christmas was quiet. Watched a lot of movies and ate a lot as well. LOL. 'Tis the season!!

cheers--Sharon

GM girls! It's terrific Tuesday (I hope).

@canuk-gal I am glad you had a lovely visit with family. I'm very sorry your mom is back in the hospital and I hope her treatment goes well and she is back to good health soon. It's very scary worrying about our parents and what can happen at this stage. Continued good thoughts and healing vibes to your mom. I totally hear you on the cold weather and brrrr I hate the extreme temps. It is only 40 here but to me it feels colder and I know what is coming...may your weather warm up soon.

Hi to everyone else. Hope you are enjoying a quiet peaceful and joyous week.
The weather yesterday was mild despite a weak sun..the temperature felt good.
Today even less sun though and cooler temps.
Greg suggested cycling today but I am leaning towards hiking. It's too cold to cycle lol. What is wrong with that man?

I had a great zoom call last night. I am making fast friends with this lovely group of women. It's 4 women in total including me. It was a long call though and doing it every other week might get to be too much but we shall see. They kindly changed the date of the next meeting for me as I have an appointment with my bone specialist in the city then and didnt want to have a call when I got back home after a long day. So our next call is in two weeks and one day.

Leaving you with a photo from our hike yesterday.
This place is amazing and so close to where we live.
We hike at a different place every day. The variety of parks near us is incredible.

Have a lovely day girls. XOXO.

Happy holidays dear NIRDIs!
Ki and I arrived back in the States last night.
The first thing I did was look to see if my jewelry pouch was in my house, the jewelry pouch I thought someone might’ve taken from my house in France, and the pouch was in my safe! Good Lord, I’m glad I didn’t call the police. I never would’ve lived it down in that small village. Here’s to staying young with less senior moments. LOL

Welcome home @Jemi and Ki! I’m happy your jewelry pouch was safe at home! That must have really worried you..
I get the senior moments. My kitchen in Maryland is super cold even though the rest of the house is toasty because of the really old radiators. The house is around 116 years old..so not the most energy efficient. I bought one of those Lasko heaters from Costco to put in the kitchen. I think I may have forgotten to turn it off! I haven’t been there in weeks. I don’t even know when we’re going back! I tried to find the same model online to see if there’s an automatic shut off..They seem to have one but I don’t know if it’s the same model that I have. I didn’t tell my husband..I keep waiting for a neighbor to call or text me that my house went up in flames…OMG

These things are troublesome!
There have been many times when I have been halfway to an appointment and had to turn back to make sure that I turned everything off.
It is such a pain to get tricked by your mind, I hope everything will be fine for you!

Thanks..I would head over there but I have a lot going on here in Pa so I can’t leave for a few more weeks..It’s probably off..That’s what I keep telling myself…but I have major doubts.

Hello lovelies

Welcome back @Jemi, glad everything was safe. I hope your journey wasn‘t too awful. Ki is becoming quite the international jet setter! Will you be staying long?

It happens to us all @MamaBee. We went up to the house yesterday, and on the way back stopped at HEB to get some shopping, only to get to the checkout to find neither of us had any money or CCs:roll: Then Colin had a major panic because he thought his wallet might’ve fallen out when he was walking Bertie. We rushed home, and he found his wallet under the chair by the desk, so we headed back to pay for the shopping! Ugh to the unvaccinated staff bringing more Covid to the home.

Woohoo @marcy, a free woman now! How sweet that you had a surprise party, I’m sure you’re being missed already. I remember you telling us about the elderly lady Marty trains, how kind of her to nominate him in recognition of her gratitude.

I’m so sorry about your Mum @canuk-gal, it doesn’t take much for UTI’s to take hold and cause havoc. Hopefully she’s on the road to recovery and will be back to full strength soon. I’m glad you were able to see where she’s living now, and are reassured it’s a good place.

Your parents are a real inspiration @missy, I hope they enjoyed their anniversary, made even more special by spending it with you and Greg. It was our 43rd anniversary last Thursday, I really can’t believe how quickly the years have flown by. The weather here is still warm, it’s dull but in the high 60’s getting in to the 70’s later. It feels so strange to be experiencing this kind of weather at Christmas. Our friends in England are all freezing. Enjoy your walking in the beautiful scenery around you.

So, we went up to the house yesterday, and as expected, no insulation has been done. Supposed to be after the new year now, and then they’ll get on with the dry walling.

I’ve ordered an Instapot which also has the air fryer function, in the hope that I’ll get to use it soon in our new home! In the meantime, I’m trying not to buy too many things and clutter up the house here, but we’re going to need all new electrical appliances, so I’m making a start on the small things.

Have a great day lovely NIRDIs :wavey:

HI:

Balmy -16C here! LOL. Lightly snowing. Eyeyiyi. NIRDI shout out!!!

@Austina nice on getting good boxing day deals--but not so nice your DH misplaced his wallet. Good thing it was found safe and sound! I had to google HEB.

@missy good you have nice trails nearby to enjoy. You do live in a beautiful part of the world.

@Jemi LOVELY you are home and have your jewels! Hope your family and pooch are doing well.

@marcy YAY to your retirement and party! Lady of leisure--enjoy it all!

@MamaBee hope everything and everyone are well in your neck of the woods.

Stay safe and well folks.

cheers--Sharon

Hi Jimmianne! That was me! I sent every NIRDI (at that time) a jewelry pouch :wavey: Glad to see you are using yours! Glad to see you and congratulations to the Grandmere on your beautiful granddaughter!

My hubby is home this week so not a lot of free time. I’m getting a feel for what it will be like when he retires. I think he won’t know what to do with himself. He’s been really great washing dishes and straightening up the kitchen after meals.

@Austina I also bought an instapot! I haven’t used it yet. I hope to make some soups for me. I want to eat lighter and lose weight.
Colin must have been so upset that he thought he lost his wallet. I’m glad he found it at home. I told my husband that I wanted to go to Maryland next weekend. He has to do taxes next Saturday so he wanted me to wait until the week after that. I tried to convince him that he will be busy with taxes so I should just go alone with David. He hates to be alone so that didn’t go over well. Our house has either burned up..or..ran up a huge bill because the heater been running for well over a month..or it’s off and I’m worried for nothing.

There are two more cases of Covid at my mom’s nursing home..all staff. That makes seven cases in less than a week..They are now going to follow CDC guidelines and let the positive staff go back to work after five days..They have to make sure they are wearing a mask. It sounds ludicrous to me. The vaccine mandate is back in effect. I don’t know how long they have to get vaccinated.

@missy I hope you enjoyed hiking today. That’s great that you are enjoying the zoom calls with your new friends. I did it with my friends for a while during the thick of the pandemic..but we stopped it for a while. I don’t like the way I look on zoom so I don’t do it with anyone else. We spent so much time during our calls talking about how awful we looked on the screen! Haha

@marcy How does it feel being home and freeeeee?! Hahaha You deserve this. I hope you enjoy your retirement.

@bling_dream19 How are you doing? I know you said you had some projects in the works with David. Are any of them done? I want to reset Winter but I’m afraid to ship it to David. My insurance doesn’t cover it during resetting..I know David’s insurance covers it but imaging my ring traveling clear across the US makes me too nervous. I keep hearing stories of jewelry being stolen before it gets to its destination.
@canuk-gal I’m sorry your mom is back in the hospital. I hope she gets better quickly so she can go back to her new place. It’s great that you got to see it..and that you think it’s a lovely home…

I went to the orthodontist yesterday. I definitely need braces. My bottom teeth are shifting..I also need them on the top even though they are pretty straight. I have to get the tinsel teeth kind. I’ll get the porcelain pads. The rest are regular wire. The Invisaligns won’t work for me.

Have a good evening everyone..I’m heading to bed now..Zzzzzzzzz
XO

@canuk-gal, I remember feeling the same way when we were selling my MIL’s home. The day of the final walk thru the realtor asked that I be there. It was difficult. My in laws had both passed away but walking thru the house for the last tIme was just a flood of memories of all the holidays and fun times spent in their home.

@MamaBee, I’m sorry there are more Covid cases at the nursing home your mom is at. Please keep reminding yourself that your mom is fully vaccinated and has had her booster shot. I know it’s easier said than done.

@marcy, I hope you are enjoying your retirement,

Sharon how come you get all the snow??!
Lucky girl.

GM girls! It's wonderful Wednesday!

@canuk-gal thank you. Yes we do and so do you. I have you to thank for all my Olang boots which I wear so much. I just love them. Red, white and black pairs. And whenever I wear them you are on my mind. Big hugs and hope your balmy (well you know what I mean lol) weather continues or maybe even warmer would be good. It's getting brisk here but so far just rain and no snow. I have no doubt snow will be on the menu however. If not in 2021 in 2022. We shall see. Bug hugs and healing vibes continuing. Best wishes to your mom.

@MamaBee haha same. I am not in love with how I look on Zoom but it's OK. I wear my glasses and I look "smart" haha.
I'm sorry S might be underfoot when he retires. Hopefully not and he will find his way. Greg and I are super lucky how things worked out. First in 2019 he was home working for most of the year due to RW so it was a trial rehearsal for Covid if you kwim. And then Covid allowed/allows him to WFH and it is amazing honestly. I almost feel bad saying this for anyone who is struggling with their spouse WFH. But TBT I cannot go back to him going into the office. It's so convenient and of course we enjoy being together. Cycling, hiking and work happens too so it's a win win for all of us. And when he retires it won't be much different at all so I am ready but I like the money coming in so I am happy for him to wait if he wants. We shall see. But don't fret, I bet S will figure it out and find hobbies to keep him engaged. Just a hunch. Big hugs to you.

@Jemi haha yes we do have lots to catch up on...so happy all is well. You are always a breath of fresh air and I have the best memories of our visit together. Looking forward to more of that and with @rainwood too. Hugs to Kine and you and enjoy being here for the time you are and before you know it you will be back in France. XOXO.

@bling_dream19 happy last week of the year. Big hugs and lots of love. Any New Year's resolutions?

@Slick1 I hope you are having a blast and enjoying this time with your loved ones. XOXO.

@junebug17 aww thanks. It is quite the milestone. Happily many of the NIRDIs have wonderful relationships. Happy marriages are real and the examples are all around us. Someone wise once said to me who we choose as a spouse is one of the most (if not the most) important decision we will ever make. Truth.

@Austina I remember that and happy anniversary again. It's a pleasure seeing how wonderful your marriage is. You are a team always working together. That is everything. Enjoy your new Instapot and fryer. And the warm weather. Poor friends who are freezing lol. I mean I do enjoy cold weather when it isn't at an extreme. I love my OTK boots and winter coats and fashion statements. Big hugs and have a happy rest of the week. 2022 is almost here...

@marcy hope you are enjoying your first week of retirement and all is going smoothly. I am sure you are being kept busy with hobbies and other activities and hope you are feeling well.

@Bayek big hugs and happy last week of 2021. Grateful for friends like you. True blue and real. Be well and big hugs to you and your wonderful family and a special hi to your sweet niece Kate. XOXO

@springerspaniel I thought of you during our hike yesterday as we went on the trail with our (yours and mine) favorite tree. I took a photo but it isn't the best photo unfortunately. But here it is. Our favorite tree. Still alive woohoo. Happy last week of 2021 and be well and enjoy. XOXO.

There is something so beautiful about winter and its bare trees. Hauntingly breathtaking.

More hiking today I think and it is a fitting week to end the year.
Have a wonderful Wednesday and sending my sweet NIRDIs big hugs and lots of love.

Oh and leaving you with this photo my mom said I could share. This is how she sleeps every night with all the cats. But this is JJ. Nothing beats having a kitty rolled up in your arms next to the love of your life. Nothing.

Austina, travel has become so challenging. It was pretty awful before, but it has reached a new low. I’m scheduled to go back for a residency renewal in two months, but this too quick turnaround combined with the invasive French bureaucracy may be the last straw.
But you’ve made it to the other side.
Kudos to you for jumping through all the hoops and starting to live your new life. I hope your house comes along in a timely manner. Sending you (((timely manner dust)))!

Thank you @Calliecake..I find it amazing that only one resident got covid in the almost year my mom has been at the home. Everyone else that got Covid are staff. I think something like 97% of residents are doubly vaccinated and boosted. The staff..last count..are 60% vaccinated. I worry because I keep thinking that since my mom is 96 the vaccine may not work on her. I even worry it may not be working on me or my husband…The fact that only one resident in a year got Covid makes me think the vaccines even work in the elderly.
