Now that I have decided, can you help me design a setting

So I selected the color change garnet I want to keep. I would post the original thread if I had any clue how to...

Anyway, here is the stone I selected. It has a very appealing steely blue in certain sunlight! Otherwise in sunlight it is a deeper shade of purpley blue. I will get photos soon....

I haven't a clue how to set the stone as it resembles a marquise (with its vulnerable points) , but is more an oval than a marquise. I know I want something that is very unusual but not gimicky.

I would love to see some really unusual ideas if you have them.

hmmm...unusual?

How about a pendant based on the design of these earrings. Very organic feeling!

So you are looking for something custom as opposed to calibrated and off the shelf? Will this stone be for a ring? Pendant?

With accent stones that mimic the facets on the top of the stone <>

Nobody else have ideas for this?

No, I totally see it, and the more I think about it, the more I like the concept of east-west with tiny opposed trillion diamonds or some other coloured gem.

CC Garnet ring setting - How about something like this?

Thanks for your responses about possible settings.

Blingergrrrl, I should have been more specific about the end piece - ring. Though those earrings are beautiful!

I am persueded that the EW orientation is the way to go. I am leaning toward a filigree setting which may not be quite as unusual as I had thought originally. I have a lot of rings, but no real "signature" piece.

How about something like these with small round accent stones?

I think that stone would look really great in a filigree ring. I end up saving pictures of details of old rings from different sites on the 'net to serve as inspiration and this pierced and deeply engraved scroll work style might look especially appealing with such a unique stone. Most of the old filigree that you see is made from either hand pierced sheet or stamped sheet materials which were assembled in to a finished ring. The use of sheet materials makes the filigree rather flat and something like this, while close in style to filigree, is extremely deep and includes undercut scroll work, Impossible to do with thin sheet style piercing. It would be both unique and durable.

I think Gene actually designed a ring for his wife with a similar cut stone. Look at his jewelry blog on precisiongem.com.
