Hi All,

Am I totally alone in this? I am too obsessed with diamonds. I just recently got a tennis bracelet and at the time I bought it, I thought it was big enough. It is 5.25 carats and consist of 35 15 pointers. Yesterday, I joined my friend to the jewelry store where I had my bracelet set and saw my same bracelet that has 31 diamonds of 20 points each. It fits me perfect and I LOVE the size better!!! . It only cost $600 more than what I paid for mine. I did try on another one with 29 25 pointers and that looked too big for my wrist (6.25 inches). Then I thought to myself that I should have gotten the bigger one instead.

Here''s my question.

1.) My friend wants to buy mine so should I sell her mine and buy the bigger one? I feel kinda bad since I just got this bracelet.
2.) How big is big enough for you?

This is lust for diamonds...not practical at all....I know. :)

Shrinkage sets in very quickly, and if you are already wishing for a larger size you are not going to be happy in the long run, no matter how pretty the piece.

if you can sell your old one to get the bigger one, i''d go for it

No I don''t think you are alone in this. Sounds like a case of buyer''s remorse, if you hadn''t seen this new bracelet, you probably would have been quite happy with the one you have. Typically, just after buying the first one, a preferable one appears as if by magic. However I think that can be the case with any purchases. There is nothing wrong with wishing you could get the other bracelet at all , sounds normal to me! If it was a gift to you, then I wouldn''t if hurt feelings could be involved. If you bought it yourself, sounds like you have the ideal solution, your friend wants to buy the first one, you can afford it so GET IT IF YOU WANT IT

There is nothing wrong with wanting to get the best you can for your money, especially with an important purchase like jewelry. Better that then regretting you didn''t.

In reply to your question how big is big enough for you?

1) Katie Holmes e-ring: just right. ( in my wildest of dreams

)

2) Paris Hilton''s e-ring: too darn big, which until I saw hers I didn''t think was possible

Still an amazing ring though.

Yes, shrinkage does happen with tennis bracelets too. I already had a 6.50 ct one made of 16 pointers. Last year, Wink made a bracelet for me with 32 - 33 pointers. It looked huge at first but now I am thinking, maybe I should call Wink back and have one made of .50ct each ... LOL (wonder if he will take mine in trade?).

When I wear Winks bracelet alone, it does start to look smaller and smaller to me until I wear the 6.50 ct one too (which I have done on ocassion).

There is a picture of both of my bracelets (for comparison purposes) here.

If your friend wants to buy your bracelet, that's great. Go for it.

Yes if your friend wants to buy yours, then go for it!! And don''t forget to post pics when you get it!!!

yeah.... you got to go for the bigger one,to get it off your mind.

Thank you all for your responses!!!! I feel much better. This forum is so great because we all think alike.. haha... when I did ask some of my local friends, I get this weird look like as if I''m crazy to want more.

I feel so alone in my diamond obsession.....if it were not for this forum, I''d be looking for "diamond anonymous".....

cflutist - OMG, I LOVE your tennis bracelet... you still want .50ct each?? hehe ... that would be so beautiful and match all the big rocks you have....:)

moremoremore - I agree with you. It stinks that I want more and more and more

Lorelei - I love katie holmes'' ring too... but have you seen Angelina Jolie''s recent 9.5ct ring? It may be a radiant or cushion, but it''s lovely.....

shrinkage sucks, diamond rules!!! Thanks everybody!!

JUST DO IT

Off-Topic...have you seen those new Asscher dangly earrings Angelina Jolie has been wearing lately?! Delish

Seriously, go for the bigger one, why not? You will keep thinking about this other bracelet til it''s on your wrist

how about some pictures of your 2.39 ct G VS2 ring ? i remember when you were looking for a stone.

LOL....it certainly was easy to pick my username. It''s unfortunate. LOL
But I do think that I *will* eventually be happy. I just need a stone that is just shy of gaaaaawwwwwwwddddddddyy...just shy :)

If you can afford it, do it. I wish I had a dollalr for every minute I''ve lain awake at ngiht obsessing over something I *had to have* at the jewelry store, upgrade or otherwise.

I have found that in those circumstances, I just bought it and felt better. It''s really a medical necessity to combat insomnia--write it off on your taxes as a "nonreimbursed medical expense"...j/k!

PS If I had a dollar for every one of those minutes, I could retire and pay cflutist something for her sleepless nights over my diamond woes.

DancingFire.... YUP, that was me who almost bought a non-certed stone!!!!!!!!!! I can''t even believe it myself now... how stupid I was. I was so glad I didn''t and you helped convinced me... so thank you.. I didn''t think you''d remember but I can''t help but laugh at myself when I think of it now. Greatly appreciate you and this forum!!!

Final purchase was the GIA 2.39 G VS2. Very beautiful stone and even with a 15x loupe, it is still hard for me to see the feather inclusion which could be hidden by a prong.

I am having the setting custom made by liberty diamonds in Irvine, CA. so when it is ready I will definitely post a pic. One good thing though is that I get to keep the diamond while they make the setting. They did get a copy of the GIA cert so they know the measurements. I think I feel safer this way. The diamond is now sitting in a safe deposit box since I feel insecure having it sit at home....

I definitely DON''T want to experience diamond shrinkage with that diamond... please pray that this does not happen.... hehe...

Jennifer5973, you are giving me a good idea... hmmm.... it IS medically necessary!!! There is my FlexPlan visa card...........

You are NOT alone in your obsession. I do not trust a girl who does not love diamonds! Does anyone know the details on Katie Holmes'' ring? And is there a picture of Angelina Jolies'' new one? Is it from Brad maybe?! I am so a jewelry lover and think bigger is better. Harry Winston apparently said "Diamonds shrink as you own them"...smart guy, and women would agree to that for sure! I would say if your friend will buy it, it is a no brainer. Get the bigger one; you will make both you and your friend happy!

i think you were looking at a uncertified H VS1 H&A 2.60 ct for $18k and i told you that no jeweler (especially asian) would sell fillet migon at hamburger price.
9.gif
can't wait to see your 2.39 ct ring.

Yes!! Dancing Fire... I was having grilled hamburger for father''s day yesterday, and from 20 feet away, it may resemble a filet mignon but I guarantee it doesn''t taste like one!! How easily I can be fooled... I think this forum is the greatest. It gives people like us help. I''ve learned so much......

It was a 2.66 H VS1 RB. Now come to think of it, it probably is an I or J or even K and faces up white because of strong flour which I am now guessing... For 18k, that would not have been such a great deal at all. :)
