Upgradeable, you forgot rose cuts!

I think my favorites are OECs (some real beauties in this thread), though that OMC cofor posted made my heart stop for a moment.

Here are (left to right) my OEC, transition cut, and modern brilliant Cut by Infinity:

And a thread that discusses them, with lots of pix and education.

Great photo! I''ve never seen a comparison of all of them together before. I think this seals for me how much I love the OEC!!

As I do not know if it is really appropriate to post it here as it is no true old cut, any moderator can feel free to move it at will.

This is the first diamond cut by myself and also the only "cofor cut" one still left in my small collection. It has no real value economically but I am very fond of it for reasons unnecessary to explain further. Though the table is too big it is much inspired by the shape of the OMC.

Grace, I never get tired of seeing those beauties!!! Thanks for posting them!

Question:
My mum is giving me my grandmother''s earrings. They consist of a round centre and are surrounded by other rounds to look like flowers. My guess is that they were bought 10 years or so before WWII. Are they likely to be OECs or transitionals?

I would think that they are likely OECs but do you have photos? It sounds gorgeous!

Not yet. They're still in Singapore.
ETA: My dad thinks they're post-war.

Like Harriet, I too have my great grandmother''s earrings and the jeweller had no idea about the cut. They don''t look like OECs but neither do they look like modern cuts. I still wonder what they are. They are definitely diamonds though.

I love old cuts and really want to own one someday! My favorites are OECs (I guess the "classic" type rather than early OECs) and transitional cuts.

Again, these are by no means the best examples of old cut stones. They are just my current collection. Here are some compilation shots. First, on my hand....

The earrings are much more problematic for me to photograph so I''ll do several posts of them though frankly none do them justice.

They are oec set in platinum, one is .42 G color I1 clarity and one is .38 J color SI2 clarity.

I love your stone!!

Grace--that transitional is breathtaking!

Here is my token "Old Cut" but honestly, I have no idea what it is, I inherited it about 30 years ago from an old family friend. I know it is original from the 20''s, but don''t know the cut, have never had it appraised. The center stone is about 5.5mm and the accent stones all have a strong yellow tint

For all you old cut experts, can you point me to a website to learn to distinguish between the various old cuts?
