Hi, I have a Old Miner''s Cut diamond that I know dates back to sometime in the mid to late 1800''s. It was in a Tiffany white gold setting, which I still have, but one of the prongs has broken and I was told it is not repairable. The stone is apx. 1 carot. It is a beautiful stone, very sparkly.
I have some history on the stone, but nothing in writting, only what was verbally told to me. I may have an interest in selling it, but I want to get a fair price for it. How would I find a true value of this stone?

I would try to find an appraiser that specializes in antiques, and get it appraised. Tell them you''d like ot know the actual value, not an inflated value.

Once you know the ct weight, color, and clarity -- you can compare it to similar diamonds on the antique market and see if your appraisal is on par with those.

If it was a Tiffany diamond, I imagine it carries a huge premium. I saw an antique Tiffany diamond called a "paruzzi" recently (to DIE for) and it was 1.86 cts and I think was marked as $50K or more. Something crazy like that.

Post pictures! Sounds beautiful! I love old stones.

Please Please post pics! I didn''t even know that Old Miners cut existed till I found this board. I would really like to see a picture!
I love learning about all the different shapes, etc..!
Lookin forward to it!

OMC diamonds are just beautiful! Please post a pic of it.

White gold was not invented until after WWI, so the setting is probably not original. At the top of the page is a label that says "resources", I believe there are some appraisers listed that you could contact about your ring.

I believe Dave Atlas, (he posts here as Old Miner) would be a good person to contact about this ring.

You are right about the setting not being original. I believe it was re-set about 30 years ago. I have no idea what the original setting was like or whether or not it was a Tiffany setting. Thank you for your input. =) I will try to get a picture of it soon, I curently do not have my camera hooked. I will have to get the tech guy ( my husband) to do that for me. ;)

I second that. Dave definitely gets my vote.
