I was wondering what your thoughts were on OMC versus OEC regarding which one has more fire or sparkle? I’ve tried to search this but can’t find an exact thread. I realize of course much depends on a cut but just still wanting some opinions out there.

In my experience, OEC’s have more traditional Fire and Sparkle. Most Old Mine Cuts are very deep and potentially leaky. I own and love both, however, and don’t agree with traditional PS standards of attractiveness.

Every single stone is different when looking at antique cuts. You can have a dud OMC or OEC. It all depends on how well cut the stone is for it's type. But in general, a well cut round will have the better performance. However, with old cuts, you have to see a stone in person to decide if you love it. It's much different than buying a modern cut which can be graded ideal cut, etc.

OEC's have more sparkle. I am pretty sure that Alex Park from Parksfinegroup has some of his OEC's re-cut to better proportions, and August Vintage has ideal cut OEC's if you want maximum performance.

I do love OMC's though. They are so chunky and many of them give off big flashes of color.
