Awesome, right? Here''s the silver:

A 10is mm silver is on my life list. I did email RH to ask about these, and he is just the sweetest guy over email. He (at the time) could do them for about $700, the bigger ones (12-13mm) were closer to a grand. Here''s the old info.

Silver topaz, 23.14 ct 16.1x16.1x11.8 $1050
Silver topaz, 34.15 ct 18x18x13.8 $1500
Swiss Blue topaz 29.95ct 17.3x17.3x13.2 $1500

Coolest thing ever. I want one set like the pendant above, but with claw prongs

I need to start one of those...

Oh my goodness! That is the neatest thing I''ve seen today! This may be a dumb question (excuse my ignorance here), but does Richard Homer cut diamonds?
I have no clue. I don''t think so though, based on the site. www.concavegems.com

Thanks for the info!

The Snow-flake designs have been around for quite some time.

The Lapidary Journal has step-by-step instructions on how to cut all sorts of snow-flake gemstones. For $1000 you can buy the machine and rough and cut your own.

What''s bad is I have a snowflake addiction too. Seriously. Our Christmas tree is covered in blue and silver snowflakes and balls that have snowflakes on them. I hang plastic but covered in glitter, snowflakes at different heights from the ceiling and our stocking are blue or silver with beaded snowflakes.

As I said before...Must. Have. ASAP.

Preferably in blue in a necklace. But I''ll take either silver or blue!
How about one of each!
31.gif

Agreed, a necklace would rock and it would be so festive to wear all Winter (assuming you live in an area that has a cold Winter).

Wow, that is so gorgeous! What an amazing cut. I wonder if he does it with other colored stones?

If anyone can make it Richard Homer is again going to be hosted by Pave Fine Jewelry in Berkeley CA, Oct 1,2. His work is amazing and it''s something to see if you get that chance.

I am not sure if it is more expensive to buy at one of these "Gemstone Parties" or if it''s better to buy from a vendor like Wink. But it is a real experience just be able to see and hold the variety of sizes, shapes, colors and cuts that Richard passes around. I never would have bought what I did if I hadn''t seen it in person. I am a colored gemstones convert.

I saw one of the snowflake gems. They are quit unusual.

wowzers... I''m thinking of covering my christmas tree in them....as if I could afford that.... but seriously that is brilliant. I''d have to make it into a ring b/c I would always be staring at it.

Living in SE Texas, this would be the closest I would come to snow....gotta have one!!!

Since topaz is so cheap I bet most of the money is for the cutting. Which I could TOTALLY justify spending money on, hah. I want one of these so bad, in a crazy bright blue!

Update! I''ve been emailing Richard Homer (what a great personality, even through email!), and he gave me permission to post the following:

"Just so you have some idea of where things are.....top end Swiss Blue Topaz in a 12mm Satin SnowflakeT would run about $650. I can go as small as 10mm but to cut smaller jeopardizes the beauty of the design, which is quite complex and hard to see in small. A 10mm Satin SnowflakeT would run about $425. Silver Topaz would run a bit less. I have a couple 20-30ct Satin SnowflakesT and they run in the $1000 area.

Each gem is unique (like snowflakes) and the pricing of each gem is similarly unique as they are not mass produced but rather custom cut by myself from individual crystals. The precision and attention to detail in cutting the satin snowflake
design is very high. The material must also be super clean as inclusions interfere with the reflection pattern. There have been times when I have had to cut two or three pieces to get a perfect snowflake because an unseen imperfection in the crystal showed up.

FYI...The Satin Snowflake CutT won "Best of Show" in The Gemmy''s last year, a national gem design competition sponsored by Jewelry Artist Magazine."

Thanks for the info Richard!

He really does seem to be a very nice guy!

He really is. I worked with Wink and RH to source my aqua. Of course Wink provided great customer service, but RH also answered some of my questions directly. RH is a busy man, always traveling, but he does his best to keep the flow of communication going.

Oooh a RHR does sound interesting...I do like blue topaz, I am just having a hard time picturing as a RHR...what type of metal, yellow gold or white gold?

Omie, I''m a yellow gold FANATIC, but I honestly think the blue snowflake would look better in white gold . . . maybe a solitaire with, of course, claw prongs!!!

But the silver one, now THAT might look niiiiiice in yellow gold!!!

White gold, bezel set, pendent or ring.

Love RH!

Homer doesn't cut diamonds, I don't believe - diamonds can't be concave cut.

geckodani & Irishgrrrl

I was thinking that a bezel would really showcase the cut of the stone. Blue would look good with yellow gold, but white gold might be more appropriate for a winter look. Interesting. Will each of you get one so I can decide....LOL!!
