I know I don''t post often, but today was one of the best days ever, and I wanted to share it with all of you! I am not sure whether people in here actually care about it or not, but for me and my girlfriend [future fiancee!], today marked one of the hugest things that stand between us and getting engaged.
CALIFORNIA LEGALIZED SAME SEX MARRIAGE!
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/15/same.sex.marriage/index.html
I know it will be a difficult road ahead in terms of the proposed anti-gay ballot initiative to amend the CA constitution to ban same sex marriage in Nov., but I am starting to have some hope, against all odds. After all, if Arizona can defeat an anti-marriage amendment, there''s some inkling of hope for CA, right?
I am a MA resident, and in my state we already have same sex marriage. However, my girlfriend is a CA resident, and we do not intend on residing in MA permanently, so we were ineligible for a marriage license due to the MA law prohibiting out of state couples whose home state does not recognize the marriage to be married here. However, now that CA has made it legal [minus the 30 day waiting period, of course, and pending any possible holds on the decision that may come from the opposition
] we would be eligible for licenses both places, and we are planning on residing in CA permanently!
Anyways, this is just my opportunity to share with all of you the wonderful news that''s in my life currently! I think this is inching our timeframe forward slightly, so we may be engaged sooner than we''d thought. We''re planning on having a night out and proposing to one another at the same time- not exactly a bastion of surprise or anything, but it seems like a fun and romantic way to do it where we are both equally involved!
