hello,

I’m starting to look at sapphires but there is s lot to learn. This stone seems to have a good color and cut. Is it too dark? I don’t think I can see a window, and I wouldn’t even know how to tell if there was extinction or not.

What do the experts think?

Thanks

Dunno. I’m in the same process and just posted a link earlier on one I’m considering. It’s a color change sapphire. . SO hard. Good luck!IMG_6125.jpg

Hi, I like the colour. I have a similiar colour one. I’m not an expert but I can tell you that in some positions / light conditions the sapphire will go quite dark. The colours in the vendors photos tend to be the “best” (they want to sell the stone obviously).
Here’s mine so you can see what I mean (just an iPhone).DFDB4E6F-D02D-47B7-99E5-055039B146D6.jpeg1E2D8E3F-D8F3-4045-928D-F6E4AA934FAF.jpeg

E2265A26-4081-4618-AFE9-3A492F4BD030.jpeg Hi again, and the other thing I wanted to point out is relative size.
A .86 carat (weight) sapphire will be smaller in “size” than compared to a diamond (for eg) as sapphires are denser.
My sapphire in this photo is also a 7 x 5 mm stone and weighs .87 carat so you can get an idea of scale. I have big meaty size 8 fingers though !

Thank you. I appreciate the pictures of how it can look in different light. And also on the relative size, although I plan on a halo and do have small fingers. I wish I could see a bunch in person but that is not likely.

I've found looking online at many gems to be helpful. I personally like Ceylon sapphires, probably because I see a touch of violet in them. The one you linked is a Ceylon sapphire but it looks darker than my personal preference. We each have different color preferences. You could ask for more photos.

You might find the website, www.gemsize.org useful to help you visualize the size of gemstones on your finger. If you call them, they will provide you with a photo of the gemstone in daylight and indoor conditions. I have purchased from them and would purchase from them again. However, you might also want to look at some of the vendors on the preferred vendor list to see what prices for comparable sapphires are before you commit.

I'm the cheapo type: I use an mm ruler and draw it out on paper, then cut it out and put it over the finger I plan to wear the ring on.
