So I still am in love with my dress. I tried it on for my second fitting on Thursday, and I love how my seamstress has altered it so far. The one thing that bugs me is that really, really narrow ribbon. My wedding colours are chocolate and pale blue, and so I'm going to have the ivory ribbon replaced by about an inch wide pale blue satin ribbon.

Here's what I need an opinion on though. I'm not sure about it being strapless, because of the plunging back, I kind of feel a little naked in it, and like it might fall down, thought I know it won't. My seamstress can take the very delicate ribbon, and make straps for me. Do you think that would completely ruin the dress? I figure I can always tuck them into the dress if I don't feel like wearing it with straps . . . what do you think?

Lauren-

Congratulations! I am so excited for you! I love your ring and I love your dress! I think you should leave it strapless....but YOU have to feel comfortable in it. It is not everyday that you wear something that your back is so exposed in- its something that definitely is going to take some getting used to. But, if you think you are going to be uncomfortable in it strapless, have your seamstress add the straps. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable and self-conscious in something you are wearing- especially if it is at your own wedding!

I think Straps would ruin the look of that dress - just make sure that it fits VERY well.
When you're at your seamstress jump around in the dress - hop skip make sure it doesn't slip.
Have you had your bra (or cups) sewn in?

Scintillating...

Oh* I love the little ribbon around the waist - The shiny satin is a beautiful contrast to the lace and beading.

Hi Lauren!

I am still in love with your dress too!

I think it''s beautiful and looks perfect on you.

I also love the idea of replacing the thin white ribbon with the thicker pale blue one, I think that will look really pretty. But I agree with the others, I wouldn''t use the thin ribbon as straps. I think straps wouldn''t look right with the dress, since the back is so low, the straps would look out of place.

Maybe there''s a way to sew some sort of special material in the inside of the dress around the top of the bust area that helps it stay up -- like you find sometimes in nice strapless tops, silk strapless tops, etc.

With only 10 days left, every time I go to try on the dress I've lost a couple of pounds and the top feels looser. I've already had the cups sewn in . . . I'm trying to not lose weight, but I don't really want my rear getting any bigger in an attempt to keep the top up.

Thanks for the input - I think with just 10 days to go I should really leave everything alone, aside from the blue ribbon (it'll still be shiny and satin). I just keep having nightmares about it not fitting.

Thanks, Dani! I think I just needed a dose of reality . . . Now that I think about it, there''s really no way straps would work with the dress. I think I may go look for a veil to help allay my feeling of nakedness. Maybe that will help.

Elle, that still remains to be seen . . . I need to get some pics of it now that it''s the right length and actually fits!

That''s a good point, maybe there''s some sort of sticky elastic or something that she can sew into the top. Hmmmm, I''ll ask her when I see her tomorrow or Tuesday.

Straps won''t "ruin" the dress. If you want them.. add them! I disagree that they would look wrong with the low back.. Ginger''s dress has straps with a low back.. right?!
Can you have the seamstress pin them so you can see what it will look like before she makes the changes?

Also... 10 days!!!!!!! You better have LOTS of pictures to share when you get back!

I say a No with the others on the straps, it would totally change the look of the dress, esp to have it in a pale blue...I personally think it looks AMAZING the way it is right now, not sure how it would look with a wider ribbon as I think part of the charm is the tiny little shine of the super thin ribbon. It looks beautiful, what a stunning dress!

I personally don''t like piecemealing changes on things like this, because many times it comes out different than you can ''imagine'' in your head and then what happens?!
32.gif
Esp with 10 days to go, you don''t need any additional stress. If you must have inch wide blue ribbon for the bodice (does it fit without running into the other detailing?) then so be it, but I wouldn''t start experimenting with straps, as the others said, just make sure it fits really well!!

Plus I think you will be so busy with the excitement of that day, you don''t really even think about your dress, I know I didn''t!

Also, do you have something like a sheer lacey shawl or something that could cover your shoulders if you do feel truly naked?

That''s just such a beautiful dress!!

I love your dress the way it is, and am having some difficulties picturing a thick pale blue ribbon. I think the thickness of the ribbon will overwhem the delicateness of the lace and overall look. Have you tried to tie the thicker blue ribbon over the thin one temporarily just to see if it will look okay? Could you take a picture of it for us?

I agree with the majority here about not putting straps on.

Ditto! I agree w/ Mara... it''s a beautiful dress, and I think the current thin ribbon looks perfect.... Blue sounds like a good idea, but I don''t think it would look BETTER than it does already. And I wouldn''t add straps... it''s perfect the way it is!

i love it the way it is.

but if u do end up adding straps, can''t you haved removable ones put in, that way you can have them or not. i think they put in a hook and eye or something, but to where you can''t see it.

I think straps would be fine. Like one poster said, the MOST important thing is you feeling comfortable. You won't have nearly as much fun if you're worrying about your top falling down the entire night. If you do get the straps, I'd suggest getting them sewn like Ginger's dress. You know, just for around the arm (instead of how normal straps are...am I making sense?).

To be honest, I don't like the idea of the inch thick pale blue ribbon. One of the things I love about your dress is the delicacy. With the gorgeous, light lace and tiny pearls, a thick ribbon will look "added". Do you watch Project Runway? Adding tons of stuff to outfits at the end NEVER works for Santino. I say add straps, and beyond that, leave it as it is. With dresses that have NO lace or beading, I think sashes look great. With yours, I think it looks fabulous as it is.

I had thought about removable straps, but I think I''m just in a panic mode with the wedding being so close. Surely I must be missing something, right?

I''ve tried the blue ribbon on the dress and I love it! I just didn''t like how the skinny ribbon fell. Not only that, it''s just kind of limp . . . I don''t know how else to put it, but it''s a floppy little ribbon and I think the pic of it does it more justice than it deserves. The slightly thicker blue ribbon has a bit more substance and falls in the right place.

Anyway, I think I''m over the straps now. Hopefully I''ll have the finished dress by Tuesday, so maybe I''ll have some pics to show you ladies.

Thank you for all of your help!

I think I''d skip the straps. While you might feel a little naked, I think the guy at the other end of the aisle will probably appreciate you a little naked. If it were too scandalous your mother or father would''ve disapproved by now :).

Lauren I''d love to see the pictures of you in that fabulous dress! Please post them.

That is a gorgeous dress!!! I love the delicate, thin ribbon at the waist. Please don''t add straps. :) If your''re worried that it might fall down, of course - first work with your seamstress to prevent that from happening. But maybe also try the ole Hollywood trick -- double-sided tape for extra security?

I think you could get away with straps that criss-cross in the back but not with the blue ribbon; I''d ask her to use the same fabric as the dress and make them really skinny.

I know how you feel, though, because when I tried on my dress yesterday with the new longlines bra a bought, I totally felt like it was gonna fall down. I was seriously wondering if I could get away with adding straps to feel more comfortable dancing and stuff but I just don''t think I''ll like that look for my dress.

Good luck Miss Ten-Days-To-Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everybody for checking in on this. You''ll be happy to know that I didn''t chage a thing. No straps, ribbon isn''t blue. I haven''t had a chance to get the whole get-up together, but I have a couple of pics from today.

My seamstress and her husband are absolutely fabulous - Greek immigrants who are just too funny. Anna''s husband couldn''t figure out my camera, so I think these may be the only pics I''ll have until the wedding day. It''s only next Thursday - not too long of a wait.

I still need to get it pressed, but here''s the bustle.

And the front . . . it looks a little long because I have since bought shoes that are about half an inch higher, and the dress was ready a day early and I didn''t have the right shoes with me.

Hehe, awwwwww - I''m blushing! Thank you, dear!

My hair dresser took nearly 4" off of my hair this weekend, and despite it being really short for me, it''s a lot healthier feeling . . . I just hope I have enough for a half up, half down hair do.

I can''t believe we leave next week! I spoke with the wedding coordinator today, and everything is ready for the wedding. I have nothing left to do - just show up when I need to! Yikes!

I can''t believe it''s so soon! Congratulations! I''m glad you left the dress the way you did. I can see what you mean about the ribbon looking "limp", but I think it suits the dress! I hope you have a great time and we want to see tons of pics!!!

Thank you, Anchor! I''m starting to feel a bit nervous, BUT the good news is I can actually get the higher shoes that I wanted to get because the dress is a tiny bit long, because I asked her to leave it the way it was. The shoes I really want are 3" heels instead of the 2" $9 jobbies I''ve been trying the dress on with.

Now I just need to find a good steamer because it needs to be pressed. I''m travelling with the dress and I''m sure it will need a good repressing once we get to the Bellagio.

Yikes! It''s so close!
