I''m considering having a setting similar to the one posted below made for my mali garnet. I like the two tone look but I''m not overly keen on the diamonds on the white gold. Do you think the setting would lose too much oomph if the white gold part was just engraved or perhaps was given a matte finish and the yellow gold kept polished? Thoughts? Photoshoppers?

I don''t seem to have posted a pic of my mali garnet yet so I''ll have to wait until I get home to take some.

I think the design on this ring is very busy and complicated. It could use some simplification. In my humble opinion.

I am not sure, but I think the diamonds in that setting may be rose cut. Maybe that is what is throwing you off from liking the diamonds in that setting? I think less is more in this case, however, if you do go with something like the setting above, I do envision it with diamonds.

Zaynah: admittedly, the tourbillon style isn''t for everyone, but I rather like it. Besides, it won''t be a ring I''ll wear every day so no worries about me hating it after staring at it day after day. :)

This is the stone I''m thinking of putting in it.

The garnet isn''t quite as yellow as the first pic suggests. It''s more of a green-y yellow.

I''m not sure about engraving, cause it may take away too much from the garnet, but doing matte (or maybe even some textrued) finish might be a great idea IMO. But I''d suggest reversing the colors of the metal i.e. doing white on the shank and yellow around the stone, cause after all it is a greenish yellow stone. Having it surrounded with white metal might make the color seem more brownish, but can''t say for sure that''ll happen.
