I find emerald buying is a real pain right now. I want a nice little emerald ring, not everything I own has to be super high quality, but I also don’t want to deal with resin and F2 and F3 either.

I found this stone. Seems nice. https://www.litnon.com/index.php?page=viewgem&id=10892 I’ve been obsessively looking everywhere for the last few days and nothing seems to fit what I want.

It’s extremely included, so despite not having clarity enhancement, it might chip upon setting, as I suspect there are probably many surface reaching fractures. You don’t have to get a top color emerald, but I would try to get a less included one. If you do decide to purchase it, I would use a very soft metals, like high carat yellow gold or tarnish free silver.

Thanks, yes I did buy it knowing they have a return policy. I’ll let you know when I get it..

At least he’s a no risk seller, good luck!

If it send it back I’ll likely go smaller with a Sandawana emerald from wild fish gems (but currently no neon green selections to match my pendant).

What is your general opinion of Leibish? I’m very displeased with my searches for emeralds. I sure wish I had 40k to blow on one lol

Leibish Is a highly reputable and no risk vendor, But that being said, they specialize in fancy diamonds. To be honest, I would like to purchase an emerald from a dealer that specializes in them.

What are your emerald requirements?

Wow, Leibush is expensive. If I were spending that kind of money, I’d want a full AGL prestige report.

You know, I totally forgot JKC and AGTA is this week, so I emailed Inken from Enhoerning Jewelry on Etsy and IG. I had bought 2 batches of emerald melee from her through loupe troop, and she is meeting with her emerald guy, so I gave her my specs.

I have no business buying an emerald right now, but you know the heart wants what the heart wants. I was about to set my aqua, so I guess that gets pushed back now. :rolleyes2:

Reply from Michael at Litnon:

“Under 10X magnification I can find only 1 small fissure on a crown facet and none on the pavilion of the stone. Nothing that should affect stability or that is eye visible.”

It’s getting shipped today.

Looking forward to what you think of it.

At luck at JCK so far?

I don’t think it starts or perhaps Inken won’t be meeting her guy until later in the week— maybe Wednesday or Thursday?

Inken is flying into Las Vegas today--she told me because I'm working with her on a custom project. Someone got a little impatient with their trigger finger! :P2 Honestly, though, I hope your impulse purchase is awesome and doesn't make you regret.

I thought about this... I might wind up with more than one emerald. Lol.

Please do show and tell when time comes...exciting.

It came today! Photo bomb of the litnon emerald. I know Inken is also looking for a ring quality emerald for me.

My initial thought of this one is that it has great color and is a tiny bit sleepy on glow. I could keep this one and any one Inken finds me and since my sandawana is more like an every day bezeled pendant, could make this one a haloed pendant for black tie etc (we usually have at least 2 black tie events per year).

Brace yourself, here come the photos

By the way, these are taken in all kinds of lighting— sunshine, porch, foyer, bathroom etc

Apparently it is as hard to take pics of Emeralds as diamonds.

Ok, comments please. Emerald lovers, can we discuss sleepy emeralds. I find this one is a small bit sleepy, but when the lighting is right, wow.

Also, let me know if you want to see any other kind of photos. Thanks.

I think it's really pretty and the colour is gorgeous. Do you like the colour? Emeralds are hard to photograph and then PS seems to wash out the colour even more on the upload, somehow (at least for me).

I’m honestly on the fence about it. Overall, yes it is a pretty stone. It doesn’t have that wow factor until it is in bright light. It’s a good color and a nice size for a good price. But I’m not sure I love it, so does all the rest matter if my head loves it but my heart hasn’t engaged yet? You know?

This pic of yours is my favorite.
I think it’s really pretty - and a decent price if Michael’s assessment is true. Do you feel you need an independent lab report to back his word?
Did you loupe it to see if you can see more fissures than he stated?
I don’t mind the sleepy/jardin at all.
But I don’t require ‘best of the best’ in my collection at all.

Wow, I love this one! Totally jelly now.

What are you talking about?! I've always thought emeralds were THE most difficult gems to take pictures of, and diamonds don't qualify as difficult at all to me.

I like the color of it. It's vivid. However, I like emeralds that glow more. I think it's hard to find them though that are reasonable in price. How much time do you have to consider it before you'd have to notify them of a return?

My opinion is that if you don’t love it, return it. You can then put that money towards an emerald you love. I’ve spent way too much money on gems I wasn’t in love with, which collectively, all their purchase prices could have been used toward a gem I loved. It seems a bit too included for me, and I would worry about setting it.

As for the color, it’s hard because emerald is so hard to photograph, but the color and stone look dull outdoors. Is that true?

Yes, dull is sort of the word. It glows fantastically in bright light, but other than that it kinds just exists. My heart isn’t singing, but I think for someone else, it would be a great stone.

I think I have 7 days to send back.

ETA: it’s still a pretty color stone when “existing”... I think I’m sending it back because it’s not making my heart sing even though I do think it’s a good stone.

I'm a little confused. When I hear bright light, I think of outdoor California sunshine, yet @T L says it looks dull in sunlight. Which is it?

Sunlight usually is the worst one in which to view inclusions (i.e. most apparent), at least in my experience. For the best gems, the color just only gets better in sunlight, though with emeralds you would have to balance the inclusions and color.
