Especially for Danny: Elizabeth Taylor (or Burton?) bought this from Cartier. I just discovered that Oscar Heyman Bros. made it for Cartier, though. Not surprised, since it's so elegant & beautiful.

True, Laurie!

Do you know what she did with this necklace after she sold the diamond?

Danny, I have no idea -- anybody else know? I saw a photo recently of her wearing the necklace without the diamond but I don't know when it was taken; she could have just taken the diamond off for that occasion. Interesting question.

Laurie, I just wanted to alert you to the fact we have a rare Oscar Heyman thread going on now if you haven't seen it!

We don't get too many of these.

I hope you'll enjoy, and BTW, I NEED to see a photo layout of your STUNNING new ring!

I'm sorry if I missed the thread. I was probably having a car accident or something. I keed! I keed!

But please give me a link or take a bunch of pictures.

I seriously love spinels in any color and yellow gold is my favorite metal. I'm totally in love with your new ring. :))

The necklace stayed in her collection and she wore it often with a diamond cluster brooch that was a very early gift from Burton. She is pictured several times wearing this combination through the years.See it in a National Geographic magazine article on Diamonds written in the late 1970s.This is where Liz gained her friendship with Fred Ward the writer for N.G.M. and author of several books on gemology after he graduated from the G.I.A after writing this article! Also see it worn in her book on her jewelry.

Great info, thanks, Jewelerman!
