Newbie here, and I need help!

I've been lurking for a while, and I feel like I have a good sense of what I want. My boyfriend has let me know he's looking to propose soon, so I've been sent off to search for the perfect ring *cue squeeing*

Originally I wanted a baby pink sapphire. After searching, I fell in love with the look of padparadscha sapphires. So I decided to buy a loose gem and then find a setting.

I went through the trusted vendors on PS and there were plenty that caught my eye! But then I stumbled on a website called jupitergems.com that seemed to have what I wanted, natural and unheated, for a reasonable price. Do these stones look to be of good quality to you?

Pad3 https://jupitergem.com/padparadscha-sapphire-1-67-carat-unheated-grs-certified/
Pad4 https://jupitergem.com/padparadscha-sapphire-1-34-carat-heated-grs-certified-1643/

My question is has anyone here ever done business with jupitergems? How worthy is a GRS report and would I have to have them independently tested?

GRS is a grand institution.

Jupiter Gem - I have only heard of (nothing debatable).

Vote: 1.67

Thanks for the reply!

I actually found jupitergems by lurking through posts on PS that were pretty old! Also, good to know about GRS.

As far as your vote, is that color preference or something you see that in undesirable in the other stones?

GRS is fine. A couple of the stones have windows, I'd go with the 1.67.

Thanks for the reply!

I do like the 1.67. What do you think of the cut?

The gems from jupitergems are fine--I've been in contact w. them a few times, but have never purchased. Note that gems from them won't be precision cut, and of the ones you listed 1.67 looks best to me.

Is untreated/unheated a requirement for you? And are you comfortable sharing your budget?

Thank you for pointing out that they won't be precision cut. I overlooked that.

I prefer untreated/unheated. But I would be ok with heat only. Although, I have read that it's easier to test for unheated vs heated than it is for heated only? So that is kind of a concern for me.

The budget is 1k-3k with a little wiggle room at the top of the range if something magnificent comes along. I'd like something close to 2ct, but I know cut will effect what 2ct actually looks like on my finger.

Oh my gosh. I will definitely look through this! Thank you!

I'm at work right now and it's prohibiting my sapphire obsession :cry2: gotta pay for the sparklies some how I guess :mrgreen2:

One final option (although somewhat unusual). It's from an etsy seller I'm familiar with (she's very nice and helpful, as well as trustworthy) and sells vintage jewelry. The certificate is from AGL, which is reputable. Granted you might totally hate the setting because it isn't traditional, but just wanted to include it just in case.

That one was stunning!

I also appreciate the etsy links. There are so many good artists there, I just didn't know where/how to start!

I'm not in a super hurry to scoop anything up. Still learning and looking. But I will keep my eyes on that one and hope it's still there when we're ready for it! More time = better budget hehe

wow! Thanks for the info!

This makes me want to be doubly sure about everything before I buy.

oh wow  that's beautiful and the exact color I was looking for! I hadn't considered spinel, as I really love sapphires, but this might change my mind! Do you know if this is a commercial cut or a precision cut?

I was also going to suggest spinel, since it's a durable stone and the colors can be amazing! This would be considered precision cut, since Andrew Gunji cuts all the stones on the gemfix webpage (unless otherwise stated on there). I love that one!
