You had answered me about setting my asscher. I have decided on a setting from lan.bo4. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200499016478#ht_3405wt_1139I would appreciate you looking at my message to make sure I have made clear the modifications that need to be made to fit my stone. I confirmed measurements from Gene. He said he doesn't measure the depth as that is hard to do accurately. This is what I asked him.

"I want to purchase this setting to fit a 8.9 by 8.9 asscher cut stone.
The setting will need to have clipped corners to take into account
the asscher. Please quote me a price on this. Thanks"

He replied
"I quote you $300 USD to modify this setting to hold 8.9x8.9mm asscher cut stone, please advise"
Sounds to me like he understands but is there anything else I should follow up on? Also I prefer a more delicate prong. Are they able to shave them down or is that something I should ask the jeweler setting it to do?

The jeweler can shave down the prongs. I would suggest you email back and say please make sure the setting is the right size or you will have to return it. Try to use broken english and as little words as possible - he appears to understand better.

I had lan.bo4 make this setting for me to fit a 7 mm asscher. Well .. it was way too big so I couldn't use it for the stone I wanted and I had to put a 8.5 mm stone in it. I have not been happy with lan.bo4's ability to make settings to the size I want them to be.

Agreed, I would also make sure you have the diagonal, depth AND side-to-side measurements of your asscher, and if you have to, draw a picture of it in paint. Lan.bo4 stores are very difficult to communicate with when you want an absolutely custom sized setting, so just make sure they know that it HAS to be the exact measurements if you intend to keep it.

Good luck!

Charmy thanks for that account. Can I ask why you didn't simply return the setting? Did he not allow returns or was he difficult about it? I am so nervous using these ebay sellers but I know many of you have. I really need to keep costs down on this setting so I'd like to try an ebay seller but only if I can return it if it doesn't work out.

This ring made me decide never to purchase from lan.bo4 again - we had a falling out over this and I have purchased over 10 settings from him. I had him custom make a design for me and the setting looked nothing like the photo I gave him. I asked him to fix it but he refused and just said he will give me a refund minus a significant amount because of his efforts. I didn't know why I should pay for his mistake. I ended up keeping it and putting something else in it. The setting is nice but just not what I wanted.

WOW! Was this the first asscher he'd done for you, just curious
Is he also jewelryhoo or does he use other names?
Any suggestions/photos/links for an asscher setting. Under $400

Personally if you are going to use ebay i would go through LOGR then- i think they have a better return policy then the others. I have had them custom several rings for me and so far so good. I haven't had any issues with them.
