Patchy & Streaky fluorescence?

I have a 7x5mm champagne colored diamond that is probably treated. It has fluorescence, but it's in patches... and also has two fluorescent streaks.

Any idea how it may be treated? I can't photograph it because I can only see the patches/streaks when using a loupe. When i'm not using a loupe it looks more or less evenly distributed. It has a few crystals and some carbon spots visible.

Or is it possible that this is natural fluorescence? Wouldn't the whole thing be even?

Hello,

Patchy and streaky fluorescence are common in diamonds. The fluorescence is following the internal structure of the diamond, and this is not indicative of color treatment. Without seeing the diamond it is impossible to determine if it is color treated, but if this is the only thing that leads you to suspect the diamond is treated I would not be too concerned. Also it is pretty uncommon for brown or champagne diamonds to be color treated (they are often the starting material for treated diamonds, but it is pretty rare that the result of color treatment is brown, and when it is it is usually a mistake).

I hope this helps, and good luck.

Also, which lab graded the stone? If GIA, it would have mention if it is treated or not.

Thanks! Not that I would have changed my mind about keeping it, but i was just curious since i've never seen streaking fluor. in a diamond.

It's a cheapy stone i bought for fun, so no lab report. I was gonna set it in a silver setting, but upon receiving it, i changed my mind. It's now going into a rose-gold setting because it's kind of peachish-light brown. it's really pretty well cut for an oval. No bowtie!

OK, thats not fair...you have to post pictures so we can see!!!

haha, i still need to photograph a lot of gems and stuff. We're having some epic rain here in s. cal, combined w/ my work hrs.. i'll try. i promise.
