I stopped into my favorite pawn shop today. It's always a little scary, because I know I'll be spending money!
I rescued this nice 14k sapphire and diamond ring.

Send it to Dave Atlas or Neil or some other appraiser to make sure it is natural

Gee, Gary. I don't know how to respond to that. I'm trying not to be offended.

If I read this brief exchange correctly tone wise, I agree it seemed a bit rude & snippy. @stracci2000 has been around for a while & is a great source for info, especially for newbies. I trust that she can easily make an informed decision when it comes to gems, even difficult ones surrounding blue sapphires, which can be extremely tricky.

There's also the angle that sometimes one may get so much enjoyment from the piece as is while feeling comfortable with their own educated assessment, that sending it in just isn't worth all of the fuss.

Sorry for the dampened thread Stracc!

Try to enjoy your new find!
It's a lovely shade of blue & looks fabulous on your fingers!

OhO.
Sorry, no intend to do anything initially to protect a consumer.
Then learning you know stuff, complimenting.

I have know Garry for nearly 20 years and every once in a while he goes all oz and comes across all gruff even when he is not trying to.
If he said that to me in the context here in this thread I would chuckle and say thanks. It was a compliment.

This goes to show that tone is everything! That's why I *try* my best to use descriptive language or even the emojis provided as they can prevent misunderstandings like these from happening. Glad to know you were marveling in her knowledge Gary! She's a lovely asset to the forum & I look forward to her posts!

Ok, 9 month hormonal pregnant lady is crawling back into her observational hole now... lol

Not quite as good as "pawn shop snake ring" -- my favorite thread title -- but still a pretty good band name. And a great find and lovely ring.

If you put the words "pawn shop" in front of just about anything, it lends a certain flavor, doesn't it? Haha!
I just like used stuff, and I'm not scared to admit it!
