Did anyone see this documentary last night?

I found it so disturbing and upsetting, I couldn''t even watch it through to the end.

I guess it originally aired a year ago in October, before the elections. I do not understand how Bush got re-elected...

I know nothing about it. Tell me what it is about, why it was disturbing, and also why Bush did get re-elected. (OK, the first two will do if you cannot figure out the third one.)

Oh, Deb...a report??

It was a low keyed, factual, non inflamitory documentary telling of the history of the military since the end of Vietnam (when it was considered "broken") up to today. It told Rumsfeld''s history, and about the power struggle that led to his "victory" over the dept of state (Powell) and the best military minds, etc etc.

I guess it got to me because it was so low keyed and factual. And that there were A LOT of smart people who vehemently believed that the Rumsfeld/Cheney/Wolfowitz/etc plan was ill conceived, who the administration obviously chose to ignore.

It showed a clip of some general (Shinski?) testifying before some congressional committee...before the invasion...that it would take 100 (200?) thousand "troops on the ground" to secure the country after the overthrow of the govt. Then it cut to Rumsfeld dismissing the general''s opinion as wrong at a later press conference.

Well, we NOW know who was right...

Soon after this I turned off the TV in disgust. I suppose a lot of this is "old news" to tried and true Bush&Co haters, but it was newly chilling to me.

I''m sure you could learn a lot more about the documentary by searching the PBS or Washington Post websites.

The US media was quick to cover the Iraqis standing in line to vote, lauding the "democracy" we had helped the people there to achieve. Of course, people ar dying like flies every day...but they can vote!

Well...guess what? The new government run by the majority Shiites resembles the regime of Saddam Hussein. American troops found a torture center under the NEW Iraqi government headquarters, with some exotic and interesting kinds of torture being used. Do not read on if you do not want to hear details of what the Iraqi democratic government was doing in its cellars.

My computer and Pricescope were not in harmony when I posted the above. I gave up trying to write about the torture in this thread and started a new thread instead.
