Pear Shaped Pendant- help us decide on a setting please!

My mom has been given a beautiful blue pear shaped stone. We don''t know exactly what it is yet, but will find out on Wednesday (I''ll try to snag a picture of it then). It''s a fairly substantial stone- I''m guessing 4 carats? It''s a gorgeous rich colour and is a nice fat pear shape. She wants to set it as a pendant but is looking for ideas. She''s not sure she wants a diamond halo- it''s already a large stone and she doesn''t want it to be too blingy for her to wear comfortably every day. She''s wondering if she should bezel it? (I should add that she''s a yellow gold girl)

All ideas, suggestions and photos welcome! Thank you for your help.

The first thing to find out is the measurements of the stone; knowing that will let you know if it will fit into a standard calibrated setting or if it needs to be custom set. Or perhaps you are looking to custom set it anyway so it doesn’t really matter but knowing the size will be useful as the design for a smaller stone will be different for a larger one. Another factor to consider in the design is the depth of the stone, so the stone will not flip or sit too high in the neck area. Depending on the tone and hue, bezeling can enhance the colour or make the stone a lot darker so a picture is definitely encouraged.

How exciting! I personally love pear stones for pendants I''ve been stalking a pear tsav on and off, hoping to make it into a pendant someday.

Anyways, a halo doesn''t necessarily have to make the pendant much larger. Here are some Leon halos that look quite delicate and petite on the pears:
