Hi there! Most of my loose stones are officially now in the hands of CVB for a pendant! 1 magical Jeff White blue sapphire, 2 BGD Quadexes, 2 BGD rounds, 1 BGD cushion, 1 BGD oval, and 1 fancy vivid Orange Yellow pear from Fancy Color Diamonds on Instagram. (I am not sure that the last one will actually work with the rest, but I sent it anyway because I just love it. Lol.) I am so happy to be on the waiting list!

I'm really excited about this project. I've been collecting these since 2021 (birthdays, Christmas, etc.) and it is way past time I actually put them in a piece so I can wear them. I decided last year that I wanted a complementary pendant to my Sapphire ring. Same metal, same engraving, same style. I have an idea of the layout, but can't picture the actual setting. But if anybody can put this jigsaw puzzle together, it's Caysie!

I do need help deciding on a chain. I've always just worn the cable chains that come with my pendants. I have a few cheap chains that I've in different lengths, but I've never really shopped for one or given it much thought.

She said it will be rather large/heavy, so I need a 2-2.5mm chain. What kind of chain (box chain, rope chain, etc.) do you recommend? What do you think would look good with this style? And where should I look? I don't want to overspend on it as I am quite sure I'm going to blow my budget on the setting!

Since the pendant will be 18kt yellow gold, I'm thinking the chain needs to be that, too. Does it have to be solid or can it have "links?" I want the emphasis to be on the pendant, not the chain, so I don't want anything too thick or noticeable. I want it to be sturdy, but I also want it to be pretty! Lol

Any thoughts or help you can provide would be very appreciated! I do have some time to "shop around!" Thank you in advance for your help!

P.S. Here are my stones and my photoshopped idea for a layout. (The pear would drop from the bottom!)

I love box chains, and mine is a 16in 2mm box chain in 14K WG, and I wear it with a 2in 14K WG extender, so that I can wear different pendants to suit different necklines.

My absolute favourite box chain was a 18K WG 2mm faceted one purchased in Hong Kong that I sold some years ago to raise much needed funds. I have not come across another like it. Perhaps I would find one if I go to Florence and visit the Golden Bridge there.

DK :))

Thank you for this! And the thoughts about the extender. I definitely want to wear at different lengths with different necklines.

I have done a few searches and box chains do seem to be popular. I'll have to look into faceted ones. That sounds fun! Lol

Can you post a pic of your 2mm box chain?

Don't have a photo of my own, sorry, however, this is pic of the listing of my chain, the Etsy shop is currently on a break:

Thank you!

Part of me thinks that you should see the pendant made, and then decide on the chain. That would help me decide. Or even a photo of the pendant that you could add to photos of different chain styles???

I love this idea! I am going to wait for the CAD and then do a little photoshopping on different styles. Thank you for this suggestion!

I like this idea. Sometimes what we *think* will work/look good together is different than what actually does when we have the objects in front of us. I vote wait until you have the pendant in hand, or at a minimum can see the glamor shots or CAD before pulling the trigger on a chain. You will be wearing this piece forever hopefully, so a little extra time to really get it right with no regrets or "what ifs" can be priceless!

Thank you! Yes. I completely agree! This is such a special piece for me. I want to get it just right.

Pendants and necklaces are honestly my favorite. I'm very excited about this one!

Oh my, this is going to be spectacular!!

I would base it on the style of the pendant. For pentants with rounded soft edges, I love rolo chains where the links are chunky and set close together. For more angular/squared pieces, I love paperclip chains.

Thank you! I hope so! I really do love all of these stones. Fingers crossed we can find a cohesive design that lets them all shine - especially the sapphire! - while also highlighting their differences!

And thank you for your insights about the chains! I do think I will have to see what Caysie comes up with before even starting to consider a style.

I'll update this thread as I know more!
