Hi all, I have a new diamond pendant and the culet emerges a little bit from the setting. Does anyone know if this is dangerous for the diamond? Please see picture below plus neck shot! Thank you so much.

IMHO, and I am not an expert, I am not happy with it if it was mine.

Although the cutlet would come into contact with my skin when I am wearing it, I would have concerns about damaging the cutlet during storage as I don't always store my jewellery in their original boxes that are usually lined for protection, e.g. when I am putting it down on a hard surface like a dressing table etc...

I am having some stones set as pendants, and would not accept any CAD if I could see the cutlet protruding underneath the basket/base. I don't except the bench that I work with would do something like that either, as they would never set a stone in a ring where the cutlet would touch the skin!

Personal opinion and all that.

Very nice pendant BTW, except for this issue with the exposed cutlet. :kiss2:

DK :))

I, too, would be concerned for the safety of the stone. Also, I would think it’s going to pick up more oils from your skin and will affect the sparkle. It’s a beautiful pendant, hopefully you can have it modified

What a beautiful heart! The exposed culet might poke while you're wearing it, but if you store it in a padded box and not plopped onto a ceramic dish (for example), it should be fine. It will get more oily and dirty though, compared to a deeper basket.

I think it would be ok, all dbty necklaces have exposed culets. I have a vintage tiffany one from the 90s, and the culet is still fine. :)

Btw, that is really beautiful and looks fantastic on your neck!!! :kiss2:

Does the pendant sit properly when you wear it? I think a basket that extends past the cutlet helps the pendant to lie flat too. Also concerns re: pokey and chipping and all that so if this was a custom I would be kind of upset. But it looks stunning and if it doesn’t bother you I think it’s ok. Personal preferences and all that

Just wanted to say what a beautiful heart pendant!

Oh it’s so gorgeous! I love it so much! And it looks perfect on you!
I would want a deeper basket as well. Hopefully they get it modified and back to you quickly!

i wouldn't worry about the stone's safety, just that it may feel "pokey" and/or need to be cleaned more b/c it is in contact w/ your skin.

Very good point about cleaning. Very true!!

So pretty, but I echo those PP’s above regarding cleaning and safely. I actually have a pendant they has the exposed culet and it pokes me when it gets trapped under my shirt and that does irritate my skin and nerves.

I think it would be ok, all dbty necklaces have exposed culets.

I only have a cheapo DBTY bracelet from Berricle so that I do not have to baby it.

DK :))

It is absolutely lovely! Hopefully the revised setting will be just a touch deeper and you won’t be without it for too long. A gorgeous necklace!

Very pretty! I have a round in a similar necklace setting and the culet is not exposed. I would agree with other's comments that the culet should be protected by the setting.

Thank you - it does sit nicely, but also does feel a bit pokey!

Thank for the compliments! I love it so much. I am worried about the exposure and also it is pokey, so to speak - and the cleaning aspect is kind of bothering me too! I am going in to the store tomorrow. Once its all fixed I will post better pictures. Thanks so much for helping!

Sorry to thread jack, but can you share a bit more details on the darling gold crab necklace? I absolutely LOVE it!!

Glad you are getting it fixed! The culet should not touch your skin. The whole idea of the open back with the base is to allow the pendant to sit flat against your skin. So they definitely should fix that.

Thank you! It's a charm from Tiffanys, my hubby bought for me 5 years ago for my 50th bday. It's 18k gold, with diamond eyes. I don't know if they make it anymore! I wear it on a 24" chain, also from Tiffany's, and also on my charm bracelet.

I neglected to say...I LOVE the heart pendant! I recently learned that Elizabeth Taylor had one!

LOVE the pendant!!! Can you please share specs?

I also would see if it can be modified. The pendant is so so coose to perfection, altering the back would bring it to 100%.
Although ugh about having to bring it back and wait all over again to wear it.

Thank you for the details. It doesn't look like Tiffany sells it anymore :-(

I love your heart necklace too.

Gorgeous pendant.

Thank you - yes good point. I'm hoping its an easy fix so as not to lose the way it looks in the front.

Specs are: 1.89 ct, D color, vs2, excellent polish & symmetry, no fluor.
