Penn-I looked at the 3 fabrics together, and I think they look great--this could be it!

The gray blue is not a paint shade I was thinking of--but it sounds pretty, is there a specific shade I can look up? What was your back up (just curious:))...

You are so right about the room dimensions--it is a small Living Room and maybe 3 chairs is too tight, plus need to be conscious of the size making color choice important too. Room is 13x22

Sorry Janine, it''s been a long weekend.

The paint color I had in mind is called silver mist. I really think it would suit the room very well. And I would like to take it over to the dining room and paint it below the chair rail.

The backup plan is either an ivory tone or Squire Hill Buff. In the dining room, I think below the chair rail could be a red.

I think you have a great size for your living room. I definitely think 3 chairs would be a bit much.

Pay attention to the dimensions of your sofa. I think 84 inches is the ideal length.

Hi Penn,

No worries at all--I really appreciate you even be able to spare as much time as you do to this thread!

I like the paint suggestions (I''m familiar with ivory, squire buff) and will take a look at the Silver Mist shade. And I think I meant 2 chairs and sofa, not 3 chairs for the room. The designer says we can fit it all in.

Speaking of we spent alot of time at Thomasville this weekend. Pretty much decided on Fredericksburg table, chairs and cabinet with chairs in a satiny beige and green fabric. Very subtle.

As for the sofa, my DH still likes the Miraval! I was surprised because he usually hates traditional, but he says our family room will be less traditional and we need a grand LR. And the designer was agreeing with him (these store designers are really salesmen first). So I let the theme carry out just to see what else he suggested. We decided on the sofa in Goldenrod (the pale yellow you also suggested). Matching chair is the Seasons chair (your favorite!). The chair comes in a stripe Goldenrod (the sofa is more floral print)--do you think this works or should I keep it the same fabric? Or should I go to a different color (I did really like the green, blue yellow fabric you came up with. Designer has us convinced these 2 chairs should match in color.

As for the wing chair, I love the Bocelli after seeing it in person! Some of the fabrics in red looked totally different in person (the one you and I chose was very velvety and thick). So now we''re looking at either: 3977-91, 2614-14 or 4344-91. None of them are fantastic--first one is muted, 2nd is very red, and 3rd I never actually saw in the store. I will probably hold on this chair until we have a rug, and maybe match things more precisely then.

So that''s where we''re at for now. Nothing purchased yet, but more brainstorming. I think we''ll be buying by next weekend--and this designer guy is actually coming to our house. Meanwhile my hubby is heading to Drexel Heritage to look at sleigh beds tonight--it''s neverending!

Thanks and hope you''re having a good Monday so far!!

You know, you''ve really made me consider taking a few design courses. I think it would be a great way to get out of the house.

Can I just say that other than maybe some of the designers at Ethan Allen, I do not trust furniture store Sales people/decorators. I think they are mainly there to sell you things. Then again, I only listen to the professionals for advice. I think this is mainly because I have a sense of what I want thing to look like.

The Miraval is not a bad sofa by any means, it just doesn''t have a "clean" look to it. I took my cues from what you said, and in my opinion it doesn''t work. Design wise, it is a traditional sofa though. One thing I did when I worked for Toll Brothers was basically tell people to go with what they felt was best for their home. I would recommend things, but I don''t think it''s right to talk someone into something they don''t like. Actually, it''s something I would consider buying. The dimensions are great. It''s weird, I usually love damask prints like the one on the Miraval, but that one doesn''t really do much for me. And I have a feeling that it''s not going to be very kid friendly. I don''t know if that is a concern, but I thought I should mention it.

I think one of the best things about traditional design is the mixing of different patterns. Florals and stripes are a classic combination. Damasks are also great. I think you should do what you will feel most comfortable with. I think sometimes, there can be too much of a good thing.

And I LOVE Drexel Heritage. They have really great case goods.

I do know that Ethan Allen has some great sleigh beds, also.

I have a slight headache so I''ll sleep on the fabric selections and get back to you tomorrow. I do think the fabric we picked out for the Bocelli chair is awesome though. Was there something you didn''t like about the velvet feel of it. Traditionally, that would be the type of fabric on a wing chair.

Penn,

You absolutely should take some design courses..or do it freelance!

Thanks for all your points--and I agree with alot of them. The Damask looks very pretty in person on the Miraval, but I am also wondering about having too much of a good thing. Let me know your thoughts after you''ve slept on it (stripes on the Seasons instead of matchy matchy Damask, or just going with different pattern/colors all together). I''m going to stop in the store one more time to see how I feel about the whole combo anyway--and you are very right about designers in stores being salesmen first. So I always take most of it with a grain of salt which is why I come here for a more objective opinion!

The fabric for the Bocelli was a very heavy and thick looking velvet. Too me it kind of took away from the elegant, light and classy feel I was going for and doesn''t work with the Damask. It''s a lovely color though. Oh and you I think your instinct is right on the Damask Miraval not being kid friendly...but supposedly we won''t be spending much time in that room (compared to the family room). I guess it''ll be a true traditional living room--for entertaining and presentation mostly.

We''re deciding between 2 Drexel sleighs..so I think that piece is almost done at least..

Can''t wait to hear more of your thoughts--I look forward to it everyday!
PS Any recs for stores with great fabrics/silks for cushions?

For me, the living room is meant to be used. I like going into the living room because we don''t have a television there. It''s lovely to be able to read a book in there. I''ve been thinking about getting a piano. My dad bought me one when I was younger and I planned on getting it shipped from Alabama, but my little brother has taken up piano and he''s really into it.

Anyway, I put some thought into it and I think the damask on the Miraval and the yellow stripe on the Seasons coordinate very well together. I think they match without being matchy matchy. However, I think you need something rich and luxurious for the win chair. I think it needs to be a piece that stands out.

I was wondering, did you ever look at the Cabaret Chair? I think it''s a oddly beautiful chair.

All of the fabric resources that I know of are only available to the trade. Have you tried the Interior Options program at the New York Design Center? Like, you can go in and look around and purchase some things that are usually only sold to the trade. Or anything option would be to find a designer that has access to the NYDC. I don''t know of any fabric stores in the Summit area. Well, honestly, I know nothing of the Summit area as I barely know anything about where I live in New Jersey. But you could try a fabric store. Sometimes they have accounts with Robert Allen, Kravet etc and can order or sometimes they stock some selections in their showrooms.

If Drexel doesn''t work for you Ethan Allen also has some great sleigh beds. Keep me posted okay? :)

Ohh and I know this is late, but did you look at the Darryl Carter Rollins Dining room table? I. LOVE. IT.

Janine ,dear, any news?

hi penn!

yes and no--we orderd the mirabal and seasons chair in the damask and stripe. Looked at it again and it''s enough contrast while still matching, etc. Both are not custom, so saved us some $ actually. They are also discontinued so we had to hurry and make a decision. The 3rd wing chair I''m going to take a bit more time -- but like you suggest, will look for a richer fabric of different texture. Been looking at 3977-91 although it has no yellow--it has red, cream, beige. Definitely will keep you posted!

I think I''ll focus on rugs next and then go for the wing chair. The dining room is decided, but the Daryl Carter Rollins collection is a very handsome and stylish look!

In the summer we are planning on redo-ing the kitchen, so I''ll be coming back to you for thoughts!!
