I am finally decided to set the blue tourmaline I bought from Peter in 2010. He describes it has having an almost identical AB and C axis colors, I don't know what that means, but it does look very clear. It came from Afghan. 3.05 carat 7.2x11.3x5.1 The setting should be done next week.

Most blue tourmalines have a closed C axis (the longer ends are darker or blackish in comparison to the shorter AB axis). Yours is considered to have an "open" colour. Looking forward to your completed piece of jewellery.

Dori, I love that blue. Beautiful and looking forward to seeing it set. I hope it is turns out just how you want it to. Gorgeous tourmaline.

Beautiful! :appl:

It's beautiful- can't wait to see your finished project!

What a unique and gorgeous blue! I am looking forward to see your beautiful stone once set.

It depends on how they're cut. If cut the right way, you won't see a blackish stone, even with a closed axis. The table should be cut along the open axis.

What a lovely color and cut! Can't wait to see it set.

Beautiful stone! Can't wait to see how you set it! :appl:

Lovely stone, thanks for sharing, and I look forward to seeing the finished ring.

I can't believe I didn't already respond since I love blues! Very nice - you certainly seem quite good at picking out true lovelies. How are you thinking of setting it?

This is the setting. To me it is hard to in vision, but Alex always makes nice rings.

You mean a setting similar to that one? The shape is so different in your Peter stone that I would think it would disrupt the design of the ring and require significant retrofitting. Will it be east/west or north/south?

Just got ring back. I think it looks fantastic.

That is a GORGEOUS ring!

Only two more pictures I promise. The ring was custom made by Alex from Alex and Co. He has made other rings for me and they always come out perfect. He also loved the pad.
