This interesting tidbit was posted on Polygon this morning by Robert James from the International School of Gemology. He has graciously given me permission to post this and his pictures here. I think you will enjoy these!

Wink

This is actually a very rare quartz crystal point that has
more going on inside than I can show here. It contains
regions of yellow and blue liquid, with a lot of water also.
Wish I had more info on the ID but our Raman Microscope is
packed for safekeeping due to weather.

While imaging one of the yellow areas I notice that it was a
yellow frog. Complete with spots and an eye made from a gas
bubble inside the liquid.

So...here it SQUEEKY THE FROG

Image 1 is a 10x image of the area

Image 2 is SQUEEKY THE FROG

Image 3 is in a different test light source, but you can
clearly see that the gas bubble has moved inside.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did when I saw them. I love that the bubble in what is probably petroleum has moved for this last picture.

That is really cool, but are you sure it''s a frog or just has the appearance of one??? If so really bizarre.

It''s just supposed to look like a frog :)

That is the coolest thing ever. I didn''t realize bubbles could move inside like that!

Wow, what a ribbeting photo!

Ok, go ahead and groan, I know.

It is not a real frog, just looks like one. And yes, it is bizzare. Perhaps after the storm Robert will take the Raman Scope that he has and determine exactly what the liquid in the crystal is.

If quartz were graded for clarity, this would be an IF. Internally Froggy.

Fantastic photos, and thanks for sharing. Updates on what the blue and yellow liquids are would be much appreciated!

This is so cool! Thanks for sharing with us!

That frog is so cute and quite realistic too!

Thanks Wink for sharing these with everyone. I''m glad that everyone had as much fun seeing them as I did when I first found them.

This is actually a very rare golden enhydro quartz crystal from a remote region of Afghanistan. It contains the yellow petroleum, natural gas, and water. What you are seeing that looks like a frog is essentially light sweet crude oil inside the quartz crystal. It was sent to me by BKK Gemstones in Thailand who has been a friend of ours for some time.

This crystal has so much going on inside that it is going to take a few days to really get good images of everything. There is a phantom crystal inside that is filled with natural gas. I will see if Wink or I can share these with you all when we have the images complete.

Duh! Kind of feel like the person in the party who didn''t get the joke!
Very cool looking. Maybe you can share more views once you''ve examined it some more!

Cool. Thanks!

Very interesting :)
I''d make a bad joke, but it appears they''re all already taken ;)
