I want to know if in pink diamonds i would be able to find a soft light pink that was almost white
and was is the rarity in a 3-5 carat pink diamond?

Yes, you'll be able to find a very light pink (almost white) diamond. Those are probably easier to find than a strongly pink stone. 3 to 5 carats will be difficult to find so I'd suggest asking the vendor to look for you. I'm sure it'll also cost a fortune.

For you...

I think, sometimes, that fancy light pinks might be photographed to look more pink than they would in person - and that fancy very light pinks really do look almost white?

There is also a grade at the GIA called Light Hues..., like faint pink or light pink.

These hues are not at the level of "Fancy Colors"..., but still attractive/beautiful and very close to colorless.

See GIA Fancy colored chart:

As DiaGem has mentioned there are the GIA grades "faint", "very light" and "light" before fancy light and fancy. Several years ago a diamond seller sent me a round that was GIA "light pink". This stone was supposedly Sylvester Stallone''s brother''s gf''s diamond that she traded in (lol, not sure if I believe the story), but the stone''s color was pretty and a very delicate pink. The color was more prominent from the side than it was from the top view (looked almost white). It was a little over a carat, but the downer was the feather that could be seen a bit from the table and all the way down the side of the stone.

Ninama, I agree that a lot of pinks (not just the lighter ones even) are photographed to look more intense and saturated than they are when you see them with your own eyes. With photography they can get just the right lighting to make the stone look it''s best. Some places even use photo-shop to modify and enhance the pictures (which stinks because it can be very misleading).

About that pink you posted (which is pretty), is it me or does it look like the photo was modified because the corners look like there used to be prongs.

It isn't you. The stone is set and the ring is masked out with black (not by me)... so I guess they're willing to sell it set or loose. If I was planning to spend several hundred thousand dollars on a diamond, I'd want to see it loose loose, but I'm sure that could be arranged!

... and the black background really pinkifies it. White, not so much.

I think the lighter pink diamonds would be easier to find and maybe a little less expensive. I saw some at a diamond show at the mall one time and thought the lighter pinks were lovely. I hope you find something you want.
