Hello everyone, this is my 1st post so bare with me. I have my heart set on a pear halo engagement ring with Morganite. I know it’s a 7.5 on the scale. I am just looking for other ideas or gems that I love. Can anyone help me find pink pears? I have attached a pic of what I am looking for.
If I did stick with Morganite, how do I know if it’s cut well?
I heard this site is very knowledgable, so I look forward to your reply’s.

Morganite is really just not a good choice for a daily ring. Sapphire and spinel are good choices that come in pink and are more durable. What size are you looking for in mm? What is your budget? I can't see your picture to see what color pink you like. Can you repost as morganite generally are more peachy pink?

Couple of pinks...

I’m sorry I am just seeing this now. I love the 2nd link you sent me. I am looking to spend about $1500-$2000 if that is doable. I spoke with a jeweler before and he suggested $3000 for a good morganite. I’ve never even seen any that expensive. I am open to other pink stones. I do want sparkle though, will I have that?
I do prefer pear 10x7ish but am open to cushion cut as well.

Morganite is a variety of beryl (Aquamarine is the pale blue and emerald the green). It is often high heat treated to attain colour and some say it can fade, if exposed to too much sunlight. I don’t know if that’s true or an old wives tale.
One thing that people complain about is that it get cloudy quickly. It is a magnet for oils and dust and while it might start out clean in sparkly in the morning, by nightfall after a days doing stuff it’s sparkle may have diminished. It just means cleaning it. Maybe every day.
Also the gems dispersion ie sparkliness isn’t as high as sapphire and we’ll short of that of diamond.
Make sure you see the gem in person, the photos are often “optimized”.

Thanks ladies. I will look into sapphires as well. Have any suggestions on where I could buy one?

How about topaz? Aren't there some Brazilian topaz that come in soft pink? Imperial topaz.

I second the imperial topaz suggestion @Anne111 made. There is something different about them. They are so beautiful and wearable.

I love the suggestion of topaz. They have such a unique presence and feel, and are commonly cut in pear shapes.

Have you tried Cecile Raley for pink sapphire or pink spinel? She also has nice Mali garnets, maybe she can find you a pinkish one?

Sorry, I meant Malaya garnets not Mali garnet

Hi, no I haven’t checked out Cecile Raley, thank you I will. I am going to Diamonds by Lauren this weekend to look at a ring, I am so excited! Has anyone been to the diamond district in NYC?

Topaz is a great idea. First, they are extremely wearable and then, durable. I viewed pink topazes from XIX century in museums, they look great.

A clean pink spinel would also be a good choice.

I just love pink stones! That pear is gorgeous.

That sounds so fun! I hope you find many beautiful rings to love there. Maybe the perfect pink pear!

I wish I could go with you! I used to buy diamonds from Billy Smith Jewelers in the diamond district. All of the girls in my group wanted a 'Billy Diamond'. He would send a few stones and say "choose!".
Anyway, I popped in here because I have a 2.41 carat pink spinel that I bought last month from Loupe Troop. I'm finally realizing that I can never set all of the stones I have (It's a bad addiction) and if you're still interested after your weekend, I can make a LT listing. Let me know. It's really nice and I would love to see it go into an engagement ring.

I have never been to the diamond district, do you have any tips? I had to reschedule my meeting with DBL but will see him within the next 2-3 weeks.
I’d love to see what you have either way. :-)

Hey, thanks for showing her to my listing! It was the only picture I had of the pink pear. It's a dusty pink and I imagine it would look fantastic with a diamond halo.
The rest are not for sale, sorry. The green pear is my tsavorite and is next on the list to get set. I can't wait!

I was recently on the hunt for a pink (peachy-pink) pear too! Here's what I ended up with...20180615_200020.jpg
Malaya garnet 9.5×6.5mm. Color shifts slightly between pink and peach. Sourced by Lindsay at Afacetaffair on etsy.

Along the way I also looked at sapphires but the ones I liked were pricey Padparadschas. Heres pics sent to me by JuliaB on etsy.. sapphires:

YvonneRayley on etsy was really helpful too. She was looking at garnets for me but also had access to sapphires. You're budget is higher than mine was so hopefully you'll have better luck!
Another option is pink mossanite. 9.25 Mohs and very sparkly. Only I had a very hard time tracking one down. JuliaB had a pear but didn't seem to want to sell it loose. JoeSchbachJewelers (etsy) could get it but would only sell with a setting.
