It came late this afternoon and it''s cloudy and rainy so no good lighting to take photos but here it is, a 1.41 carat 6.7mm pink spinel cut by Michael E. I''ll start with his two photos because they are really more true to life on the color. I really couldn''t get a picture that showed the true color in this lighting. Everything came out very dark and almost more of a brown color but it''s really not that way at all. I don''t know if that is the nature of a spinel as this is my first one but it is very frustrating. The stone really is very lively but that didn''t come out in the pictures either. I''m hoping we''ll get some sun tomorrow for some better pics.

Catmom,
You aren''t the only one with this problem. My JW pink asscher spinel refuses to show its true colour as well. It looks like a horrible darkish purplish grayish thing in pictures. It appears that only light/pastel pink spinels like to torture us like this.

If it''s anything like the vendor''s photos, it''s stunning!

Try fixing the white balance on your camera, that might help.

It's exactly like the vendor photos, ma re. I just wish I could show that.

TL, I have no idea of how to fix the white balance on my camera.

How do you do that? Today is another dark, dreary and rainy day so I won't be able to get any better pics.

I love spinels, especially "PINK"... your stone is absolutely beautiful. Did you try cupping your hand over the stone??

Oh Thank You Mochi!! I was able to get some much better shots by cupping my hand around it. Who new?!! Here are some more realistic shots of it............

I thought this was a really interesting one of the cut........

So pretty! I love the picture that really shows the cut. What are you going to do with it?

Is this outdoors with your hand shading the stone? I''ll have to try it sometime too.

Very pretty!

I''ve also discovered that shading the stone helps bring out the color a lot :)

Thanks kismet and MakingThe Grade! Chrono, no I was inside in my bathroom. I can''t try outside because it''s been pouring rain.

Michelle, I love your new spinel, it is so pretty. Mochi sure gives good advice for taking pictures, doesn''t she??

How are you going to set your beauty????

Wow, love that spinel!!!!! I too would like to know how you plan to set it!

That is lovely! I love pink spinels. Do you see a lot of dispersion?

Thats a really yummy stone

P.S. It works just as well to cup the stone so that your hand is between the light source and the stone and you''re shading it from the direct light beams. You don''t have to make a circle around the entire stone for the trick to work :)

Thanks guys! Not only did I get a new spinel, I learned how to photograph them too.

I plan on setting it in a ring. I''m not sure of the setting yet. I''m not in any hurry though so I''ll be on the lookout for something that catches my eye. I don''t want to spend a huge amount.

How pretty, I think that looks like a real sparkler!! I think the LOGR that Mochi put her peach toumaline in would be perfect, and it''s one of their most inexpensive moutns.

it''s looks gorgeous and so lively!

Oh man, it looks like it''s so hard to capture!!!!! I think that one pic of the facet pattern is beautiful though...
