I think I have those earrings. They're garnet. I need to go check mine to compare.

They look like garnet to me too. They’re pretty.

They are garnets, bohemian style as it’s known.
The pendant has a cameo. This might be a man made material or shell or stone (agate, carnelian).
If solid gold, their will be hallmarks (ie 14k or 585) otherwise they might be gold plated/ wash over silver (ie number will be 925).
Very pretty, but definitely not rubies.

The stones look like garnets to me.
The carved lady is a cameo, carved from a shell. Cameos are typically carved in Italy.
I think you are right, it appears to be gold filled, not solid gold.
Very beautiful, maybe dating to the early 1900s

And looking at the earrings, the jump ring on one is quite open, you need to close that over otherwise you might lose the drop part.
There isn’t an easy “at home” test for ID garnets vs Rubies but as most jewellers (real ones, not the Mall type) have a Presidum gem tester which can quickly and easily show that these are garnets.

WoW.Thanks for all the wonderful feedback..99% of the poll says they are garnets, and not rubies.Maybe someone could suggest how to price such very fine and pretty garnet pieces? And who offers such appraisals?.........:sun:;)):)):sun:

Those are bohemian garnet items, I would guess around the 1920's or so, based on the rear design, these are rose cut stones. Very often they are gold verneal with a stearling silver base for better items, many are often just base metal underneath. I have aquired items like this for minimal dollars a set just because they are a gordgous design. Lang Antiques retails some fine items like this for a few hundred to close to a $1000 a item. I often see them in Antique shops for $60 to $160 a set where I live. http://www.langantiques.com/bohemian-garnet-circular-brooch.html

Yes, have a look on eBay.
There are antique sets but they are also still made in the same “old” style so it can be difficult (unless you know what to look for) to pick old from new.
The “screw back type” earring fitting only was “created and then used” from about 1900 onwards, before that only wire hook earrings were available. Post pierced earrings with screw back clips came in around the same time whereas the pieced post with tension butterfly clip where from the 1920s. And “clip on earrings” from the 1930s.
So yours are likely between 1900 and 1935 as this was when it was most common to use this type of earring fastening.

Here is my set. My grandmother bought it in the 1970s in Norway.
