I am in the process of thinking about resetting my Ering spess stone into a 3 stone ring, perhaps with Diamond sides, i would love to see some examples to get some ideas off spacing etc.

Here is my blue sapphire ring with baguette sides. My Paraiba ring has french cut diamond sides.

I really love your current setting though!

That Paraibia. Oh My, I am dying in love.

We wanted to switch it up a little since we are celebrating our 10th anniversary :)

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Are you sure you want to reset it?

It looks great in the halo as it is, and the nice thing about the halo is that it's more shaded all around the stone, and that really accentuates the concave faceting, which a three stone wouldn't. I think the side stones would clash with he faceting of the center stone. JMO.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Yingh is a PS'er who also has a concave cut spessartite, though oval, and she also haloed it, and it looks fabulous. I can't imagine that gem in a three stone ring either.

I agree - are you sure you want to reset it? Your ring is gorgeous just the way it is! Maybe you should think about changing your wedding bands. Incorporate a bit of orange and maybe go with one band but just wider. You could have lots of fun designing a new band to wear with your spessartite or stacked with the other two.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Excellent points here by other PSers about the resetting of your Spess, and I just noted the same faceting concern in your Rocky Talky thread. I think I might be more inclined to look at an entirely new/separate ring vs. changing this one up. It really is a pretty, unique stone and a perfect setting for it. Maybe a new 5 stone ring (e.g. 1.25-1.50 tcw) to wear with your wedding bands on days you want to change it up?

At a minimum, I would get some pictures of your Spess, and photoshop it into any inspiration pictures you find before doing anything, Seeing what it might look like in a different style might make you appreciate how perfect it really is, as-is. ;)

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

I personally wouldn't because:
1. The cut is modern and unique
2. The halo is quite protective for the spessartite
3. You already have good finger coverage, adding sidestones might make it more prone to being knocked about.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

All very good advice everyone. I think the thing that I regret the most is NOT setting it in a yellow gold setting. I just feel like that Yellow gold would have brought out more of the warm colors in my Spess... sigh. I love my spess, so I cannot imagine wearing a ring in place of her.

Although, I do have the fear of changing settings and NOT having a Halo, but there are times I think of just a plain ole tulip high settings in yellow gold to really make her stand out.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

I was also hoping to move away from all the "chunkiness" of the band. I don't mind whoppin big stones, just wanted to move from the thick band. I find I don't wear it that often do to the thickness of the band.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Ok, another question: do you think a Bezel set yellow gold setting would blacken her out too much? Her girdle is above the halo right now, but not really exposed. A bezel would close her in.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Why not just remake the ring in YG, thin the shank a bit, and maybe add some diamonds down the shank so it feels more like a new design in someway ... Like instead of a straight line of diamonds, have them go down the sides on an angle, or wrap around like a ribbon, or flush set in a random pattern?

Just thinking "out loud" (in type) ... :)

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Mine- Can you please post a pic of it in this thread (so we don't have to jump back and forth to the others)? Thanks much! ;)

I am somewhat partial to this setting if you are considering a solitaire because it is yellow and protective, yet open at the sides, and still somewhat delicate.

I LOVE that setting also! And I've considered it a couple times as an option for a few of my loose stones for the exact reasons Chrono mentioned.

Oh yes.. Sorry.

I LOVE THAT SETTING!!

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

I like the setting as it is, however, that's my personal preferences, for chunky band and white metal - the band on my ruby diamond halo ring is about 10mm! :))

Here is my day to day 3-stone ruby and diamond 3-stone ring:

The ruby is about 6mm and the side stones is about 0.2ct each.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

I mentioned in a previous thread that I'm waiting for my pear spessartite ring to be finished. It's being set in a full bezel with a triple halo. I also am waiting on a cushion shaped spess in a half bezel (solitaire). Both of these will be in 18K yellow gold to match the earrings and pendant. I'll post pictures when complete and I can let you know if they appear darker after being set (now I wish I would have taken pictures before they were sent off to be set). It might give you an idea if you like that much yellow gold.

Your ring is truly beautiful. I think a white metal is a perfect neutral backdrop for such a vivid shade of orange. It's a beautiful contemporary setting for the concave cut stone. My advice is to not rush into anything - give it time and eventually you'll decide what is right for you and your spess. I love your bands but do you think your eye is being drawn to the bands when it should be focusing on the spess? Maybe try wearing it without them for a while and see how you feel about your ring. Or as JoCoJenn said, maybe add some diamonds to the shank.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

How about a Maevona setting. It a half bezeled which provides that protection but it isn't bezels all the way around.

The poppy is what its called,I can't post a pic right now.

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Thank you everyone! You are all completely right!! I should know better than try to fix something that is not broken. Instead of have decided that a nice 3 stone ring in some gemstones is going to be a better way to go with this one.

To be honest, I am very afraid of moving and resetting my spess. I know that I cannot replace her from the same mine and I think I got uber lucky finding her in the first place. I don't want to chip or break it. Hubby suggested the 3 stone new ring, or something RH with a gemstone, to keep my "other fingers" happy.

Choosing a stone was hard the first time around.. so, I fear I am going to be asking a ton of questions and leaning on all the knowledge here in the next few months.

Thank you for all your patience everyone!

Re: Please share colored stone centers and diamond side ring

Maybe you can see if they can thin out the shank, if that is keeping you from wearing? I don't mind the white metal around the stone, it makes the color "clean" if you know what you mean.

I do love the other settings people posted as well, the tulip, and the maevena (sp).

Acinom, that sapphire is a STUNNER.
