Present ideas for under $500?

Hi Everyone,

A very good friend of mine is turning the big "4-0" in May, and I would like to get her a special gift. She and I have been friends since we were 12... but aren''t as close as we were in h.s., but have always kept in touch. She recently went through a divorce a couple years ago, and I want to give her something special for her 40th.
I don''t think she has a lot of bling.

You are such a sweet friend! For some reason I think a necklace would be an even better gift than earrings, though...I don''t know why! It would be more bling for your buck, too!

You know, Blue Nile has some lovely earrings as well as James Allen..

I ''desperately'' wanted a pendant for my 40th birthday almost two years ago.. and.. I''m still waiting. Its on my list. I think its a WONDERFUL idea to gift your friend with lovely earrings or a pendant!!

oh my gosh! i''m going throught the EXACT same thing...a good friend of mine is turning the big 40 in may also and i''ve been racking my brains for a gift idea. she''s definitely NOT a bling girl. she didn''t even want an ering when she got engaged!!! that''s blasphemous here on PS!!! so bling is almost out of the question. i have been contemplating a small emerald (birthstone) necklace but not sure about that. earrings won''t work cuz her ears are not pierced.

sorry to threadjack but had to pipe in about our similar mission!

but to answer your question, i would be thrilled to receive either earrings or a necklace so you can''t go wrong with either choice...though my guess is the earrings would get slightly more wear. best of luck to both of us!
