hi there

I currently have a channel set princess cut band that I am considering changing the setting to u prong or shared prong. I will be getting a round u prong band to sit next to it. (Would these look ok together??)

Does anyone have a princess band that's not channel set that you can show me? I'd like the metal to be fine and not chunky which is my concern.

My stones are around 3mm each in size!

Thanks!

I can help you with this - I have a 3mm full princess cut eternity. Originally it was in a shared prong setting. Princess cuts in a shared prongs need quite bulky claws unlike rounds, to cover both corners of each diamond securely, so at only 3mm wide, I felt there was quite a lot of metal. Consequently it was not as comfy as some prong settings, and it managed to go off round 4 times in less than 4 years, opening up gaps between the diamonds & leaving them vulnerable. I soon after had it re-set into a sturdy channel setting with no holes in the back, and for me, this has faired much better. I'm almost 3 years on from the re-set & have had no issues. It's also super comfy & flush.IMG_20150115_142507.jpgIMG_20170421_140246.jpg

I also think it’s safer to stack a channel band with a prong band. If they’re both prong set they can possibly damage each other or you might need to put a spacer between them. That’s just my opinion, but I’ve got an insane amount of experience in the stacking department!

I love the channel band. It really highlights the stones. In the prong set ring, all I can see are the prongs. I have a round prong set. I wish I loved round channel set as much as princess. Your band is beautiful!

Thank you! Yes, I absolutely prefer it much more than the claw set band. It's smooth, doesn't scratch my adjoining fingers, doesn't snag & most importantly, is far more sturdy for my heavy handed lifestyle. I'm sure the OP will make the decision on the right setting for her, be it claw or channel, but for me & princess cuts, the channel makes more sense.
